Waiting for the update for my wife's laptop. Assuming it will show up in the form of a windows update at some point when her computer reboots. Is that right?

I probably won't upgrade to 10 on my Samsung series 7. It was never righ after I upgraded to 8, and I just got it to the points where it is all happy running 7 again. I've spent so many hours over that debacle...

Welp, I guess we'll hold off on "upgrading" for a while.

Yeah, it's that type of experience that led me to hold off installing Win 8 on two machines until 8.1 came out.

My son converted to 8, then went back to 7 and hasn't tried to go to 8.1.

So, i upgrade to windows 10(reserved) from 7 Ultimate. Download and installation went fine. Computer restarts, and it goes straight to my daughter's user profile.

Had 6 user profiles on the 'user profiles' screen on windows 7. First one was my youngest daughter, then youngest son, me, oldest son, my wife, then oldest daughter, in alphabetical order.

After windows 10 was done upgrading, it goes straight to the first profile(youngest daughter), and no other user profile is showing!! This shit is crazy! I had no way of accessing my(admin), or any of the other accounts(profiles). I said 'had,' because I just reverted back to the previous built(windows 7), like 10 minutes ago!

I have to say, if you are now on 8, get 10 now. It's a much better experience. It actually makes me want to get a Surface 3 instead of replacing my iPad Mini with a newer model. It's the first time since perhaps Windows 95 that I've actually liked Outlook (Mail), and the live tiles in the old-style Start menu is the best of all worlds.

I like the notification center, but it's still got some work to do. Email notifications aren't consistent yet. I've had no big bugs or crashes, and my only real complaints come from trying to use Edge as my primary browser. It's good, but it needs those extensions and tweaks to win me over from Chrome (and I want it to). Lack of ActiveX means I still have to use IE to work. Groove Music is pretty good, I could see it being my default music player. Just needs a mini mode.

I like that instead of forcing a mobile world on the desktop user, they went back down to 7 (basically), and brought some of the best about being mobile to the desktop. Notifications, task view, Cortana (which will finally see me getting a mic, or at least using my BT headset). The new calculator and taskbar calendar are great. Thank fuck they scrapped the idea that apps had to be full screen.

I read previously that windows updates can't be turned off. But I have not seen this feature reported before...

I think this is pisses me off so I will turn this off or at least switch it to local network only. I don't want my machine randomly sending updates to other workstations on the internet like some kind of torrent. It's not my job to subsidize M$ internet charges. How soon until someone figures out how to inject malware into the updates?

^^^ yeah, that feature was reported when the Insider program first started. The security concerns are valid, IMO, but not sure how serious an issue it may or may not be.

No, I didn't. Hadn't a clue as to what to do. Search MS customer service, but no help. Was so pissed, I reverted back to 7.

A google search showed something similar, but it was for windows 8. I tried it, but to no avail. Your suggestion look like it might work(?).

Would I need to do the cmd prompt individually for all user profiles?

I almost like this as much as Windows 7. I think eventually I will prefer it. Impressive.

I'm glad that disaster Windows 8 is done.

I upgraded my Dell Win 8.1 desktop yesterday, The install worked without any problem. The one problem I quickly discovered was that in MS Outlook, my iCloud Calendar, Contacts and Tasks were not working even though the iCloud Addin was active. The solution for me was to open the iCloud for Windows application, sign out and then sign back in. That restored everything and MS Outlook then worked as before. One caution, when you sign back in to iCloud, it defaults to selecting everything possible. If this is not what you want, deselect the options you don't want before clicking Apply.

No kidding. I feel like Windows 8 was just a huge step in the wrong direction. Windows 10 is a step back, featuring a lot of the improvements from 8 without that ridiculous setup.

Yeah run that cmd once for each profile. I've had that happen to me once.

On Windows 7 we created a 2nd account and demoted the first account to standard user, I've done that before (did it yesterday actually) and never had an issue. However this one time (at band camp, no less) only the 2nd account was working the other had disappeared. Running that cmd brought it back but in that case the account would still disappear every time you demoted it to standard user. Weird.

So, I was so impressed with 10 that I uninstalled the ProtectTools on the laptop and got 10 on there as well. Unfortunately I can't get the biometrics to show up even after some fiddling. Reinstalled an 8.0 version of ProtectTools for now.

Also, picked up a super cheap Windows tablet to attempt to replace my iPad Mini. it's a WinBook TW802. 2GB RAM, 32GB memory. MicroCenter had one already running 10, and I'm attempting to get it updated to there as well. Has a full USB, so I plugged in my Logitech dongle and have full keyboard access. Pretty neat little thing for $80. Updates are taking a dog's age, though. Stop-gap until I can snag a Surface.

I updated to windows 10 from Windows 7 on my Lenovo Y570 laptop.

I am having a problem with something constantly loading every 5 seconds. I have no idea what it is, or how to prevent it.

Every 5 seconds the mouse cursor quickly shows a "loading" icon and disappears.

I restarted my computer 3 times and it's still having this "loading" problem every 5 seconds.

It's annoying because as I am typing this, when the loading icon appears on the mouse it disrupts my typing and I have to give it half a second for it to go away so I can start typing again.

Nobody else seems to be having this problem.

It happens every 5 seconds.

You can set Process Explorer to track/display/highlight process events.

No you aren't. You can manually do it by using this. It's really easy. Download (highly likely you're 64bit) run it and choose to upgrade PC and follow prompts.

Yeah, if you did indeed reserve it, then you did it right. I know HP and MS are still working out some kinks before it gets pushed to certain HP models. It's probably the same for other OEMs as well.

You can be patient and just wait. Or you can manually upgrade as stated earlier. You face a risk of issues that way, but from what I hear, the roll back seems to work well.

If I were going to do a manual upgrade, I would first clone my drive... just in case.

Well, after using it for a week I can say Windows 10 is excellent. Edge, however, is the weakest link. While it's a good browser, the lack of extensions is just crippling. There are also bugs that to this point render it useless on certain sites for me. I've also had numerous sign-in issues on a few sites even after I switched back to Chrome. It isn't universal, so I'm not sure what's up.

The tablet I bought is a mixed bag, which I sorta expected. I think it's due to the 2GB of RAM, but Chrome doesn't work at all, which leads back to having to use Edge, or something else. There is a couple seconds lag at times on various functions. Speakers are pretty decent, better than reviewed. I like that it's a full portable computer, even with limited memory capability. The full USB is awesome for using a regular keyboard and trackpad.

Ultimately, I think I'll keep it, considering the low cost. I could always take it with me with a microHDMI cable and have a computer anywhere. Minor testing tells me I can log in to work with it, and that's the important thing. I don't know if it's powerful enough to be an HTPC, but apparently it's been done.

Sign up for the Windows Insider program and you'll get an early build of W10 that has extensions.

Two questions: (apparently Media Creation may be required for admin accounts)

Does the media creation tool need to be run on EACH machine or can I create the media on one machine and use that media on others that are eligible?

Is this process the same for a Bootcamp W7 partition?

Thanks, have you done a w7-w10 upgrade (not clean install) on a bootcamp partition?

You can make an ISO or USB key with the media creation tool and you can upgrade the machine you downloaded the tool to as well. I've upgraded both my PCs to 10 from 8.1

woops, there were some optional W7 updates I had not taken that were required to get the W10 install started.

Updated and am in process of upgrading W7-W10 on bootcamp partition. I have a DriveimageXML backup of the partition in case I hate it and want to revert...
