Nothing special about the W10 upgrade process on bootcamp except I needed to reinstall some Apple drivers afterwards, especially the Apple keyboard.

Yeah, upgrade went smoothly (had to really watch it to catch the reboots and hit the option key though).

Holy hell the default screen resolution and sizes were SO SMALL... I had to change text/apps, etc. from 100% to 175% on a 13" MBP at 2560x1600...
I had to make the desktop icons larger, too...

I have mine set to 200% which should be equal to the pixel doubling that OS X does.

OK, 12 hours in and I have a couple of things I notice...

1. the close, maximize, minimize buttons for every window are barely visible. The low contrast theme does not help. Irritating.

2. in Edge, I have imported bookmarks and folders from chrome. Once I am looking at the favorites bar, I notice that they were not imported in the correct order, but you CANNOT drag and drop them into a different order. hWeird.

3. "hey cortana" is kinda neat.

I can drag my favorites around. But yes, Edge isn't ready for prime time yet.

You can drag items left and right in the favorites bar? Weird, I can't.

Up and down, not left and right. I don't use the bar, but the from-right 'notification' window.

The big SR1 update was released yesterday, it's a combination rollup update with everything that was released before plus some new fixes. The KB article doesn't list exactly what's been fixed but things supposedly have been fixed. No new features though

I'll say 10 has been better for me the last few days. I'll try edge again but it was really sluggish and froze often when I tried. It has potential it's just not there yet.

Excel docs take 10+ seconds to open. Just Excel. Word docs open right up, and if I open Excel from the program icon it opens right up. But if I double click on an existing Excel doc, ten seconds to open the file.

Excel 2010.

anyone know how to set the login profile to always use a local profile instead of an online profile?

Honestly, I just don't want my email address used for the online profile appearing on the sign in screen. Is that changeable?

Did the upgrade on my wife's machine yesterday. Everything went smooth besides needing to update the touchpad driver which would work for a minute or two after boot up then freeze. I plugged in a mouse and grabbed the IE10 compatible driver from ASUS website and now all is well.

I thought I was going to get the opportunity to make a backup of the pre-upgrade HD with a memory stick but it never gave me the opportunity during the upgrade. I just selected keep all settings, programs, apps etc. and luckily enough it looks like everything made it.

Haven't really tried Edge. Chrome is working fine and set as default browser.

I think 2 finger scrolling is opposite of what it used to be. Up goes down, down goes up now.

I thought switching this back would be easy in touch pad options but I don't see how to reverse it. I'm sure it's something we can live with if need be.

^Yes they switched that with windows 8, it's just like how you scroll on a smart phone. OS X does the same thing by default as well.

Mine was easily changed on my laptop with the Synaptics driver. With the generic mouse driver in Virtualbox, I don't see any way to do it. You may need to get a 3rd party driver.

Now I would like to upgrade my Samsung series 7 to 10 but I'm just a touch scurred from the debacle that was when I "upgraded" it to 8 not long after I purchased it. It never worked right after that and I just finally got it happy on 7 again. I may just back it up and overlay 10 and cross my fingers.

If all you care about is exposing your information on the lock screen, try adjusting the local security policy: "Interactive logon: Display user information when the session is locked"

Admin Tools>Local Security Policy>Local Policies>Security Options

Grrr.

Using my microsoft ID login, it's all or nothing...

Either is shows my microsoft ID (twice) which is my email address, or it shows nothing and requires me to retype my ID each time along with the password. Grrr.

I want it to say "Jeff" as an alias for my microsoft ID and let me enter a password.

I have a really weird problem since updating our primary computer from Win7 64-bit to Win10 64-bit this morning. The computer is directly connected to our wireless router via an Ethernet cable and once it boots up, all of the wireless computers and phones start losing access to the Internet (can't resolve DNS, web pages time out, etc.) within a few minutes although the Win10 computer continues to work fine. Once I shutdown the Win10 machine, all of the wireless computers and phones start working fine again. I updated the network drivers off the Gigabyte site (the motherboard is a GA-Z97X-UD3H) but that didn't fix anything nor did uninstalling the Gigabyte bloatware (like AppCenter). I had to go boot off my Win7 image disk until I can figure out what's wrong. I'm really hoping to avoid a clean install...

I thought about trying that. I'm sure I have a 11ac USB wireless adapter somewhere. I'll give it a shot in the morning.

Try moving the primary farther away from the router or vice versa:

Thanks. I don't think that's it since the router is six feet away and everything works great with Windows 7. Regardless, I decided to bite the bullet and just do a clean install of Windows 10. It's installing now. Reloading all of my apps and settings will be a pain but I'm sure it's better in the long run.

I got it to install. I ran a command prompt as administrator and executed the exe file from there.

I'm starting to really like Windows 10. My Windows 10 virtual machines use 10-15GB less of disk space compared to Windows 7.

Getting Internal_Power_Errors on the laptop when closing the lid. Going through the TS steps I've seen thus far, but it doesn't appear to be too big of a deal. Just takes longer to boot.

Tablet is going back, however. Standby battery life combined with the amount of time it takes to recharge isn't acceptable.

SOOO happy I did a clean install! It took 45 minutes to install Windows 10 but another 6 hours to install all of my key software, setup e-mail, copy 60,000+ pictures, music, and docs over. But now the computer runs 1000% better. Boots in less than 30 seconds (not 10 minutes like before), it's lightning fast, no compatibility issues with any of my devices, and it happily exists with all of the WiFi devices on the network now.

So I did a wipe of the tablet so I could return it, and now it has a storage boot error. Fuck this thing, and fuck Windows 10 Setup. I tried to create a USB boot to fix it, but it either just closes at 35% on the desktop, or comes up with 'Something Happened' at around 50% on the laptop. Meanwhile, each time it has to download everything over. What a piece of shit setup process.

I feel your pain. I've tried applying the upgrade twice and each time it stalled
at 34% (83% done copying files). With a measly 100GB monthly cap, those
repeated 4GB downloads are murder. Maybe I'll try upgrading from the ISO
but I'm really not in the mood to f*ck with Windows for a week.
