Microsoft: Windows 10 News and Discussion Thread
I'm still refusing to upgrade my workstation (running Adobe, AutoCAD, etc)....Windows 7 is very stable and works, do I really want give Microsoft control over my computer? Snooping? App store? Etc?
I haven't upgraded any of my home computers either. If ain't broken - don't fix it.
Edit: And if one does upgrade, isn't it better to do a clean install of Win10?

My life is Windows 10 right now. By the end of this week I'll have installed it on about 60 different PCs in 7 offices. Still got about 30 more to do before Saturday @6am EST which is when the free upgrade expires
I've got a unused/unregisted Win 7 Pro and Ultimate key. Wouldn't mind converting them to Win 10 for future PC builds, but how would I go about doing that? Would I actually have to install the OS and upgrade? Guess I should look into this, maybe contact MSFT?
Install it in a VM and activate it to 10
Wish I could just enter product key into MSFT database and they convert it into Win 10 key for future use. Too lazy to do install.....
Guess I'll do that today or tomorrow, because with my luck, if I put it off until last day on Friday, something will happen and I'll be SOL

There's talk that the Anniversary Update removes some group permissions, like the ability to remove lockscreen ads (or bypass the lockscreen altogether) from the Pro license. A couple other things like that as well, like restoring paid apps and the app store if you've decided to disable it.
Nothing about it from what I consider the mainstream sites unfortunately. Would be nice to put some pressure on Microsoft to reverse that if true. There are people who upgraded from Home to Pro at a cost to remove those ads, and putting them back would be a bait and switch.

I did it for my unused Win 7 Ultimate key yesterday. Might as well. Put a spare HDD into laptop, installed Win 10 using ISO, entered Win 7 key, and it activated. Pretty simple.
I might just keep my unused Win 7 Pro key as Win 7 Pro though. Will decide tonight whether to upgrade it to Win 10 Pro or not.

Finally got my free upgrade after 2 failed attempts, nice of MS to release an OS installer with a bug that conflicts with it's own update utility

If you want to get your free upgrade you have to actually go through the process of upgrading it and once it's activated with Microsoft a unique hardware ID will be stored with them. So you can then uninstall 10 and roll back to a previous version of Windows and then when you upgrade again in the future it'll recognize the hardware and activate.

If you're PC isn't compatible it probably isn't worth $150. That's a pretty good deal. I've upgrade probably 50 PCs to 10 in the past couple weeks and only one wasn't compatible, it was a low end PC with onboard Nvidia GPU that didn't support 10. I found a hack to get it to work but didn't bother with it, I just told them it wouldn't work.
FYI I've been noticing that you have to enter in a PW for filesharing with 10. One PC already had 10 so I created a share on it to share out 10 install files to everyone else in the office (no onsite server), even though everyone was allowed full access to the share I still had to sign in with a user account to access the files. Just today at another office with 3 PCs the network scanner sent PDF files over SMB to a share on a PC, in the settings of the scanner the Username and PW was empty and everyone was given full access to the share. That worked fine with 7 but once that PC upgraded to 10 it stopped working. I had to go into settings on the scanner and enter her username and PW to get it working again.
