Right it has a discrete GPU from 2006 which is enough for 10, but integrated graphics that's 10+ years old, ain't gonna work. Now I know why your NIC isn't working in 10 either. The windows 10 upgrade was focusing on 7 and *.x era PCs not XP/Vista, you shouldn't be surprised that all your shit doesn't work.

The GPU only has to support DirectX 9and the Sapphire came with DirectX 9. That GPU shouldn't be the limitation.....

My 10-year old Acer Aspire 5720-4258 (came with Vista, I loaded Win7 in a separate partition) with integrated graphics (Mobile Intel GM965 Express) upgraded to Win10 just fine....

may not be the case, been reading other people who had the same issue. They did some fixes and got it to work. I'll fiddle around tonight if I remember.

for what it's worth, my board has 2 gigiabit ethernet ports. The one I normally use isn't showing up. The other one has a status of unplugged.

Worst case I'll move the cable over and reassign the IP address to it

He should not be surprised that the upgrade checker didn't tell him which of his devices wouldn't be compatible?

Or is that just the kind of crap you expect from a company who has to bribe/coerce customers to upgrade?

Bingo. I bought a 7 license for a laptop that I don't use, with a free upgrade to 10. It continually pushed me to upgrade to 10 without telling me that the graphics card was not supported. I didn't realize the laptop was as old as it was since I barely see it, but not my fault that their installer is shit

So the graphics card manufacturer didn't include/add support for DirectX 9 for that particular card? What card is it?

Like I indicated earlier, I was surprised to learn that my 10-year old Acer laptop's integrated graphics card ( Intel GMA X3100) supported DirectX 9.

Did Microsoft take out the ability to use a flash drive to do a major update? My Boot Camp partition is only 40GB, and getting rid of everything I could freed up 17GB while the update won't run without 20GB free . Not sure if they took out the capability or it's just because I've only tried in VMware fusion and not booting into Windows.

Of course that's just an idea since I have no idea what that can screw up so I'll look into it first before doing anything. Really don't feel like redoing Boot Camp, though, just to make a bigger partition.

Installed the anniversary thingies on my virtual machines. Took a long time but worked.

Had to do the registry hack again to get my shared folders back.

I tried it on one PC and it sucked. Got to 100% on Downloading install files, then started over saying getting install ready got up to 84% in a decent period of time and then slowed to a crawl. Like moving 3-4% an hour slow. Eventually gets to 99% and then nothing happens.....I clicked something somewhere (can't recall) and it snapped out of it and said Restart to install 10. Cool. I accidentally hit the big blue "Restart Later" button instead of the much smaller restart now. So I say fuck it and choose restart from the start menu thinking it will install 10. Nope nothing happens, restarts like normal and I have to do the 4 hour process over again. Did it again and let it run over night, boss calls me the next morning I walk him through it and he says it's frozen at 99%. Fuck that shit.

Weird W10 issue...

Open ALL SETTINGS, then UPDATE AND SECURITY. Then open Task Manager on top of it. See if you can do anything with TM while the update and security window is open. My TM is frozen while that setting window is open (it;s d/ling updates).

As soon as I close the settings page, TM goes back to normal.
