iPhone: OS 3.0
On another note, do any of you guys use a turbo/rebel sim? I've never unlocked an iPhone before because I've always used a rebel sim (I hear that rebel sim is better than turbo sim). I'm just more concerned about jailbreaking my iPhone because I need those cydia apps!!! More importantly, THEMES!!!!!
i think since quickpwn or redsnow yellowsnow purplesnow or whateversnow can unlock the phone, i dont think very many people use those turbo sims anymore.
the only reason why they were made in the first place was when the phones were not able to be unlocked by software.
when i ran redsn0w on my 2g iphone it gave me the option to install cydia and unlock the phone.

Haha, sorry.

Baseband 101
The ‘baseband’ is the generic nickname given to the internal components of the iPhone that handle the phone calls and Internet access. This ‘baseband’ is a tiny and unique independent computer system that runs inside your iPhone, it is separate to the main system that handles the applications (such as email and google maps) and it talks to the main part of the phone over an internal communications network. Think of it like a cable modem or other peripheral that is attached to your home PC that needs occasional updates. When a software update is released and presented to you within iTunes the baseband is sometimes updated (to fix bugs or add new features). The 3.0 update for the iPhone 3G contains such an update, so running the vanilla updater straight away with iTunes will reprogram and update the baseband.
The 2.2 firmware update didn't include the baseband upgrade, which stayed at version 2.28. Then, apple pushed the 2.2.1 fw and upgraded the baseband to version 2.30.03, which gave Dev Team some problems because yellowsn0w only dealt with baseband 2.28. However, the turbo sim has a computer chip inside that does God knows what and lets me use the iPhone on the T-mobile network.
And no I haven't update to 3.0 yet because I'm waiting for a stable jailbreak and unlock

Crap!!!!! The usage meter is showing that my phone is sending and receiving cellular network data even thou I used boss prefs and sbssettings to kill edge
in 2.2.1 that meter always stayed at 0.
I hope that the meter is saying data is being moved when it's really not.

Shit I think it was moving data, I had push and push notifications turned on as well as the phone set to fetch data every 10 minutes. I had those previously turned off in OS 2.2.1.
Anyways I turned them off and reset the meter and it hasn't moved since then.
cause the meter said I received close to 512KB of data. :thumbsdow

The problem wasnt with sbs, it had to do with push notifications still using cellular data even thou edge was disabled.
I have since turned off all push notifications and fetch.
I have since turned off all push notifications and fetch.
I turned on the battery % meter with sbsettings and I can't seem to charge over 94%
I'm glad they changed the % meter to have both the
battery and %, before it was just the %

Jailbreakers: I know a lot of you here are waiting on a QuickPwn 3.0 download for the iPhone OS 3.0 firmware, but unfortunately Dev Team has decided to retire the QuickPwn program. QuickPwn.com is working on making it and plans to have the QuickPwn 3.0 jailbreak released by Friday this week (possibly earlier, but we don’t want to get your hopes up). If you’re using iTunes 8.2, the current QuickPwn will not work on it but we are working on fixing this in QuickPwn 3.0. If anyone has experience creating jailbreaking/unlocking software and would like to help with the QuickPwn 3.0 jailbreak please e-mail webmaster[@]quickpwn.com.

But wait, they're retiring the QuickPwn program but are they replacing QuickPwn with something else? Much like they replaced yellowsnow with ultrasnow.

I'm just waiting for a PPC compatible tool to jailbreak. I'm on iTunes 8.1 with Mac OS X 10.4

Are there clear and concise directions on what to download, where to get and then exactly what to do?
where do I get redsn0w
this is annoying. Ifigured out how to kinda use pwnagetool...but for the DFU you have to fucking his button sequences in time like a videogame and it never works.

Yea there is a set of button presses that you have to follow.
Redsnow is on the dev website I posted earlier. As for the bootloaders, I forgot where I got them. I downloaded them wheni first got my phone and kept them since.
Iirc for redsnow with the 2g iphone already connected via USB, you first locate the os3.0 ipsw file then the bootloaders. Then select to install cydia and unlock. It then tells you to turn off the phone. Click next and follow the on screen directions with the button presses. After that the process should finish itself.
Ohh and if the phone gets stuck on waiting to reboot, press the power button, that got it going again for me, or you could try turning the phone off and then back on
ohh and you update to os3.0 first in iTunes.

I've been keeping an eye on this stuff because I want to wipe my iPhone [1stgoddamnversionthatcameout]G before selling it and it seems like overwriting a portion of the phone's file system via jailbreaking is the recommended practice.
Well everyone says it that way.
I was under the assumption that
1G iPhone = original iPhone
2G iPhone = iPhone 3G
3G iPhone = iPhone 3GS
iPhone 2G = original iPhone
iPhone 3G = iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS = iPhone 3GS
whatever.....
