iPhone: OS 3.0
only jailbroken app i'm missing is intelliscreen. i love that app even though on 2.2 it wasn't as stable as i like. now i hear the 3.0 version is not compatible with cydia which is retarded.

but then of course the next day a way easier way comes out
just go to this website on your iPhone and it takes like ten seconds
help.benm.at it install the 5.0 AT&T carrier file to enable tethering via the website

It is just now a part of Rock app. It's still is functional. Unless you have some sick loyalty to Cydia, there is no reason why you shouldn't get it.
When you do an upgrade, do you have to rejailbreak? I was looking for some info on whether or not you have to backup your apps and such that were downloaded from Cydia, then upgrade, and then rejailbreak and restore the Cydia apps. I didn't have much luck in my search for some reason.

Although, my memory is fuzzy on this for some reason

It depends on how you upgrade. If you just upgrade, you won't have to reinstall your apps. If you restore as a new phone and start fresh you will have to install your apps again. You Apple apps can be backed up to iTunes, so those are easy to reinstall, but I haven't found a good way to back up the jailbroken apps so i always just do those manually. I don't have a ton of them so it's not that terrible.

If anyone knows of a good Cydia backup, please let me know.
So what would be the point of upgrading versus a full restore? If you have to load everything all over, wouldn't you just do a full restore, then jailbreak, then load all your crap?
If you just upgrade, no need to redo all that stuff. All your legit Apple stuff does not have to be redone.
imo the developer said its not his problem that it conflicts with cydia and told the cydia developer to fix that problem... ironic really when you can't install the rock app unless u have cydia... but we'll see, hopefully someone fixes it
um I totally posted a how-to 4 pages back for this.

If I jailbreak with these instructions:
1) Download the version of redsn0w for the device that you need
2) Download the correct version of 3.0 for you device and save to desktop or were u can easily find it
3) Unzip redsn0w and extract the files to your desktop
4) Launch redsn0w with the device powered OFF
5) Browse for the firmware you downloaded in step 2 and wait for redsn0w to confirm it
6) follow the on screen prompts to get the device in DFU mode wait for it to finish and enjoy
Will I lose all of my contacts and apps and music? It will not be a huge deal, I can just re-sync with itunes. But I am kind of nervous jailbreaking again because everytime I do, I lose something or everything. That is the reason I have not jailbroken 3.0 yet.

My iPhone messed up when updating to 3.0 not the process of jailbreaking so i just had to restore from iTunes and everything was back to normal. I would assume had it not messed up all my data wouldve remained intact.

I was doing some research on jailbreaking and found that if you leave your email to push, your wifi on and a few other things, it kills your battery life.
The battery life was killed because of the jailbreak. Is it true that if I want to jail break it and still have the battery life I have now, I have to turn all of that stuff off?
If that is the case, then I guess I am fine without jailbreaking it. I do not like manually doing stuff that the phone can do for me automatically all to save battery just to have the ability to unlock my phone.
I guess my question is, does jailbreaking kill battery life... I guess I can just try it and if it is true, then go back and restore it.

The reason I haven't upgraded is because I don't want to lose all the videos I recorded on Cycorder... if someone can tell me of a way to upload those to my computer I would upgrade in a heartbeat.
In the process of doing it right now.. :crossesfingers:
hay guys, is there some hack that, oh, i dunno, gives you a WORKING INTERNET CONNECTION????? I don't have a connection at MY PLACE. This phone is not of much use without one. It does great in broad open air daylight though, bravo AT&T + Apple bravo nice job with the open air daylight.

I have a 6 year old router that it won't connect to. I just ordered a new one yesterday, hopefully that will work. I can't connect to my home wi-fi with a couple of my other devices either, I think it's just too old. I won't be in as bitchy a mood once I can connect. But, I'm still very annoyed by not having any signal here. Reading around, apparently the first-gen iphones worked better reception wise and then Apple cheaped the hardware down for the 3GS (and maybe 3G also). Thanks, Apple.

IIRC AT&T is phasing out or cutting back on their edge network. Which sucks for original iPhone users like me, but I haven't had any dropped calls yet. Data
since I don't have it.
