iPhone: OS 3.0
http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/12/i...ng-march-17th/
iPhone OS 3.0 is coming, preview on March 17th We just got the announcement, iPhone OS 3.0 is coming. Set your clocks, mark your calendars. It's going down March 17th. Apparently, we'll get a sneak peak at the new OS, as well as a look at a brand new version of the SDK. Exciting stuff indeed, and we'll be there live at 10am PST (1pm EST) with the liveblog. Apple's calling this an "advance preview of what we're building," so we're not expecting anything ready to go as of the 17th, but hopefully this will allow developers to start building toward future functionality (hey, how about some push notifications?), and presumably users won't have too many months to wait after that for the real deal. |

Curious to see the enhancements they are working on. |

ME TOO!...esp since I am thinking of moving over to an iPhone

I'm guessing this will be with the hardware upgrade?
|
I'm guessing that the two main reasons for 3.0's existence are the push notification service and to provide a common OS platform between the iPhone and whatever the netthingamabooklet device is that Apple has in the works. I'll be pleasantly surprised if there's any more than one or two significant user-touchable features included.

June is fine by me

I just want 32 gigs
|
I just want copy/paste.
|
If it doesn't have Copy and Paste I will be getting a Palm Pre, I have someone who will buy my iPhone from me.
And I don't really want to go through another six months of horribly shitty software until they release something that actually works the way it's supposed to. |

* MMS * Tethering via Bluetooth and USB We’re working hard to get some more information and know that our list above isn’t exactly thorough, but hey, it’s something! Plus, there has to be copy and paste, right? |
No sooner had Apple (AAPL) e-mailed invitations to an iPhone 3.0 “sneak peak” on March 17 than Apple watchers — and iPhone owners — began speculating about what that new operating system might do for them. Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster expects “significant new features,” including, perhaps, universal search capability and possibly a redesigned user interface. Silicon Alley Insider’s Eric Krangel has four items on his wish list: Copy / paste support Email search Google (GOOG) Latitude Background notifications The Boy Genius says he knows of at least two items iPhone 3.0 will deliver: MMS [multimedia messaging service) Tethering via Bluetooth and USB Apple Insider’s Slash Lane notes that two features promised early on — and not yet delivered — are push notification for third-party apps and support for turn-by-turn navigation. Also on his wish list: a dashboard-like layer of user-creatable widgets that would allow users without programming skills to build their own apps. (link) What would you like to see in iPhone 3.0? |
Aside from copy/paste, the option to hide texts from popping up on the screen while the phone is unlocked and in use.
Those are the two that get me the most, the rest I can do without. Here are a few other minor things: -ability to scroll to the bottom of a page with one touch in Safari. -if we could dim the brightness even more that would be good. -battery life use to be much better before I jailbroke, considering going back but this might be across the board. -option for more vibrates when a text is received. -support of MIDI ring tones. -playback of longer ring tones for texts notifications. That's all I could think of. -MMS and push isn't a big deal for me but it'd be nice. |
For there to be proper MMS wouldn't the iPhone need to record videos and audio?
Otherwise it's just sending pictures |
Ugh, I hope 3.0 includes MMS.
|
i dont really care for MMS since the iphone can only take photos.
|
^but that's what the majority of MMS are.
|
i just want the new one to come out cause im tired of my blackberry
been holding out for a while now... |
