The only issue i have randomly come across is sometimes the audio gets messed up. It'll skip, stutter, have static or just not play anything.

I reboot so far fixes it.

Apparently I'm not the only one with the issue.

Cool new iOS 14 feature: If y'all use the iPhone as your alarm you'll notice that it's prompting you to ask if you want to disable your normal morning alarm tomorrow because of Thanksgiving.

I manually turn on my 7 alarms like an idiot

one new thing about iOS 14 (i think) is that you can FINALLY key in directly what numbers you want for the alarm!

The timer still has that stupid rotating skeuomorphic design thing or whatever its called.

Good for you on knowing what you want and how you want it. Apple isn’t for everyone, and I know plenty who can’t get used to their UI/UX.

On the other hand, and like I said earlier, coming from 10+ years on Android it feels like a breath of fresh air with this iPhone. I love it. Apple always makes high quality products and I love both the hardware and software. Sure there’s not a lot of customization but that’s the direction Apple likes to go with. They like to steer customers to what they think is the right interaction with the software.

I currently have no gripes with the software, but I must say the hardware blows away everything that I’ve experienced in the pixel lineup. This is the Apple quality that I expected and got.

I'm contemplating getting the iPhone 12 mini. I currently have the 8 and hate big phones, so I like the 12 mini's size.

Goto the Apple store and see it in person?

i personally don’t mind the Max size, it’s been more or less the same size since the 6 Plus.

As an alternative, the iPhone SE 2020 is the same size as the 8 and has a home button with bezels. The 12 mini is smaller than the SE, has a better camera and larger screen, but relies on facial recognition or 6 digit code for unlocking.

So after a week of being back on my Pixel 4XL there are some things I miss about the iPhone but most of it is really things I figured I would. The battery honestly being the biggest one. I know there are other Android phones I can get from like Samsung with bigger batteries but never been a fan of theirs. The camera is probably the thing I miss the least. Yes it was better but when I am not comparing the pictures side by side the Pixel 4XL pictures are still fantastic. That is just the level camera phones are at these days. The news app funny enough is one of the other things I miss. How well integrated it was and that it would display everything in its perfect dark theme for reading was refreshing coming from Androids new readers that sometimes display stuff in black but mostly in white background only.

I liked enough though that I think I will actually spend the next year researching the few main issues I had and seeing if I can find easy and convenient (not complex and a hassle each time) to those few use cases I want/need to be able to do on my phone. Enjoy your iPhone 12s I might be back for the 13s.

If you like to read, consider an iPad.

I looked at Android tablets from time to time over the years and... yeah. Last one I bought was a Nexus 7 (2013). When I got a Note 4 which was much more compact yet not too much of a departure in terms of screen-real estate, I started to use it less.

If you just meant news while on-the-go like through your phone, nm

This is wild! Dude found a way to hack an iPhone using Apple's AWDL mesh-networking protocol which is used for Airplay, Airdrop, etc to gain full control of an iPhone within wifi range, they don't need to be on the same network just close by. He demonstrates this hack by stealing the latest pic in the camera roll of in iPhone from a Mac in another room but he says the hack gives him access to everything, keychain, messages, photos etc.

Warning Issued For Millions Of iPhone 12 Users

Gordon KellySenior Contributor
Consumer Tech
I write about technology's biggest companies
Warnings about Apple’s new iPhone 12 range are beginning to snowball. Following concerns about display irregularities and widespread signal drops, owners are now reporting serious battery problems.
Significant problems with battery drain are being reported with Apple's iPhone 12 range
APPLEMORE FROM FORBESApple Reveals New AirPods Design In New iOS 14.3 ReleaseBy Gordon KellyPicked up by AppleInsider, thousands of users are speaking out about dramatic battery drain when their new iPhones are in standby. While the actual discharge rate varies (from 4-15% per hour), based on comments across Apple Support Communities, Reddit and Twitter, the issue can affect all iPhone 12 models and there is currently no fix.

“I'm an engineer working in the mobile telecom industry and the discharge rate currently seen on my iPhone 12 is a faulty curve,” states one affected user who notes he has a track record in working with Apple on bug reports.

Illustrating his point in two graphs (see below), the engineer explains: “Please check both curves, on the top you can see a drain, regardless of any handset usage during day OR night AND despite low-power mode. Any engineer can tell you this is abnormal behaviour. On the bottom you will see a 'normal' discharge curve, where you can clearly see it's not a straight line down the hill but is depending on usage etc.”

Apple Confirms iOS 14 Battery, Data Problems For iPhone Users

Apple Internal Document Reveals iPhone 12 Display Problems

Battery drain in standby for iPhone 12 Pro (top) versus iPhone 11 Pro (bottom)
ODIEBLAUsers are reporting that battery drain can be so high that an iPhone 12 Pro can lose 50% charge overnight while an iPhone 12 Mini can discharge completely. More commonly, affected users see a 20-30% drop overnight.

So far attempts to isolate the problem have come up short, with users disabling mobile data, GPS, WiFi, push email and even factory resetting their phones without success. Interestingly, one user reports that simply having a SIM installed causes his iPhone 12 Pro battery to drop dramatically and removing it stopped the drain.
This suggests a potential problem with the modem, but the sample size is too small to know for sure. It is also unknown at this stage whether this is a problem which can be fixed via a software update or whether faulty iPhones need to be returned. While thousands of users have confirmed they are suffering from the issue, it also remains to be seen how widespread this is when iPhone 12 models have already sold in the millions. Either way, however, it’s clearly a significant problem.

At the time of publishing, Apple has not responded to my request for comment. I will update this post if/when that changes.

As it stands, there’s no denying that the iPhone 12 range is hugely impressive and performance in particular is ballistic. That said, there are clearly teething problems out the gate, so if you are rushing to upgrade to an iPhone 12, it might be a smart move to hold off for now and give Apple time to smooth things out.
crap, I have a 12 on order...

So last night I forgot to charge my phone. It was last charged to 81% at 9:45PM.

Just about 12 hours later and my phone is at 70% battery. So yea don’t think I have any battery issue. But I am still on iOS14.1.

also I don’t have any display issues nor cell reception issues that article mentioned.

For the past month or two I have been noticing more than usual battery drain whole using or not using my 8.

Also, I dropped my phone this past week while it wasn't in the case and fucked it up even more. The back glass is shattered and even has small chunks gone. Making it even clearer I need to upgrade. But it still works and the 12 battery drain has me a little hesitant to wait til it's fixed.

I did my first workout in Fitness+ tonight. It was pretty cool, I used the AppleTV Fitness app, paired it with my watch and it showed me my heart BPM, calories burned and time of workout on the TV screen. So far so good, maybe I'll cancel my gym membership, especially since I haven't been since march

I’m still using Fitness+ and liking it, trying to do it 3x a week for 10-20 minutes depending on how exhausted I am. The HIIT workouts get my heart rate up to about 180 bpm and I’m fucking completely spent after 10 minutes

FYI Best Buy has a Member only deal deal that will give you 2 months of Fitness+,and 4 months of Apple News and Apple Music for free. So I got 2 months for free

The member deal section usually is lame so I was surprised to see something worthwhile in there

So I pulled the trigger and got an iPhone 12 mini, direct from Apple. So far, I like the size of it, but that's all I can say right now.

I can't even activate/set it up. When I purchased it, I selected that I had att service. It looks like it came knowing I had att service and after selecting my wireless network on the new phone setup, I'm stuck at some Activation screen asking for the billing zip code and last 4 of social. I tried mine, ats well as my parent's (I'm on their account) to no avail. Contacted ATT support to no avail. Was supposed to get a call from Apple support like an hour ago but no call.

So pretty shitty experience so far. Of course it couldn't be as easy as clicking a few buttons and entering a number like my wife did for her new iPad.

I'm also on AT&T.
When I received my (unlocked) iPhone SE 2020 from Costco, all I did was move the SIM card from my old iPhone to the new one to activate everything. No activation fee, nothing else. I then downloaded the iCloud backup from the old phone to get apps and contacts onto the new phone.

What the fuck. I even put the old SIM into the new phone with no luck. I mean I'm literally stuck at a screen asking for the billing zip code and last 4 of ssn. It says 'AT&T and Apple use the last four digits of your Social Security number as well as your AT&T billing zip code to verify your identity and activate your iPhone.'

It sounds like your phone is locked to AT&T, so there might be a difference in activation from unlocked phones.
Costco's iPhones are unlocked.

I finally was able to activate it. ATT Support and Apple Support had no clue.

After trying about 20 times to activate it over cellular or wifi, I finally plugged it into my PC and did it via itunes. But first, I had to install the newest version of itunes. Then, it finally let me pass the screen that was asking for billing zip and ssn that was always getting stuck on the phone. No idea why it worked via PC but not phone.

Then, to back it up, I didn't have everything backed up to icloud so I created a backup but after an hour it said the connection was bad and then stopped . So I tried to backup via my itunes, since I saved a copy of my 8 on itunes. It said the new phone software was too old I had to update the new phone, then was able to restore via a backup from itunes.

I like how half of my apps kept login info and some kept me signed in. Others forgot everything.

And I decided to upload my photos to icloud in order to save space on the new phone. That process has been an absolute beating. So so slow and half the time it times out and I have to kill the process and only half of the photos get uploaded and I don't know which ones so I basically have to do it again in tiny batches. Seems like such a hassle.

So yea, this experience setting up the new phone has been less than amazingly awesome. On the bright side, I do like the phone.

Yeah, after my phone was activated, it wanted to update the software, which took longer than I expected considering it was only to iOS 14.1 from the previous 14.XX.
I only do updates and backups on weekends, so it's less likely to interfere with phone use. I got the SE on a weekday, but waited until the weekend to activate it.

Glad you're up and running.

yea transferring data to a new iPhone is such a hassle.

Thankfully the transition from my 7 Plus to my 12 Pro Max went surprisingly smooth.

Well I have everything up and running.. activation took about 5 hours .
iCloud photos took about a day and half (working on it on and off).

I really like the phone itself. Much faster and much better battery life. I can actually take pictures now (my old phone's camera was demagnetized so I couldn't use it). I LOVE the face ID unlock.

Some things will still take getting a little used to like opening the dashboard from the top and not from the bottom. And the keyboard is smaller so I am making a lot of typing mistakes. And when I want to turn the volume down I keep hitting the volume up button, but that is because the slight size difference. But overall, I really like it.

Do you swipe text, or tap?

Sounds silly but the lack of swipe was a deal breaker that prevented me from going back to iOS years ago.

Whenever I sometimes have to tap text, it feels clunky.

I’m still not used to the keyboard, I make so many errors when typing.
also Apple keeps on giving me hints that I need to work on my abs because it keeps autocorrecting “and” to abs.

I also have a love hate with Face ID. Given that we have to wear masks, it’s such a hassle unlocking it or trying to use Apple Pay.
also as I mentioned a LONG time ago, I unlock my phone all the time when it’s just laying down on my desk, I have to take an extra few moments to lift up the phone now to unlock it and swipe up to get in.

it was so much easier with Touch ID and rest finger to unlock.

I do hope the rumors of Apple bringing back Touch ID as a dual authentication option is true. Let people use Face ID and fall back on Touch ID if needed/wanted.

This feature was pissing me off every time i tried using my iPhone to play music in my car using the AUX port.
It made me have to max the volume on the iPhone and on my car stereo and it was still not loud enough to hear music while on the freeway.
I was thinking my phone was broken or Apple changed some hardware in the phone.

anyways glad to have figured that out and hope this helps someone else.

That's the only reason for me to get the iPhone SE 2020 instead of an iPhone 12 mini.

Apple issues new warning: Keep your iPhone six inches away from your pacemaker

New York(CNN Business)
An important heads-up for iPhone owners: Apple is warning customers that its smartphones could interfere with medical devices, including pacemakers.

In a notice published on Apple's support page Saturday, the company expanded upon previously issued safety information, warning users that iPhones contain magnets and radios that emit electromagnetic fields, both of which "may interfere" with medical devices such as implanted pacemakers and defibrillators.

The Saturday notice specifically warns users about "the magnets inside" all four iPhone 12 models, as well as MagSafe accessories. Apple (AAPL) notes that iPhone 12 versions contain more magnets than prior iPhone models, but it also said they don't pose a greater risk of magnetic interference with medical devices than earlier models...

interesting. but still sounds like a hassle to make payments with apple pay.

Also i could never get my apple watch to unlock my Mac Mini, so I just turned that shit off.
Faster to type in the code than to wait every time for it to fail and then ask me for the code.

Just use the watch for apple pay, solved.

Watch is almost done with the update. This will be good.
