Apple: iPhone News and Discussion Thread
iPhone 5 coming in September
Reuters, a wire service that still maintains extensive bureaus in the Far East, cites "three people with direct knowledge of the company's supply chain" who say that Apple's (AAPL) next generation iPhone won't ship until September.
The new phone will be largely the same as the old one, according to Reuters, but will have a faster processor.
Evidence for a September release have been mounting since late March, when sources close to Apple reported that there would be no new iPhone at Apple's June developers conference.
Those reports were echoed by several analysts in touch with Apple's component suppliers. Earlier this week, Concord Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo told AppleInsider that the new phone would be powered by the same A5 processor that runs the iPad 2 and sport a higher-resolution 8 megapixel camera.
Although Reuters does not identify its three sources, it does cite three iPhone 5 suppliers by name: camera module maker Largan Precision, touchscreen panel maker Wintek and case maker Foxconn Technolog. Stocks for all three companies rose sharply in trading on the Taipei exchange Wednesday.
Analysts can be expected to ask Apple executives about the iPhone 5 during the earnings call scheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday. Apple can be expected to duck those questions.

A5 powered iPhones in the wild?!?
Apple is seeding select developers with A5-powered iPhone prototypes in anticipation of the next-generation model’s release, according to a new report. Citing an unnamed source, 9 to 5 Mac reports that the prototype units are “virtually identical” to the current iPhone 4, save for the processor inside. The report goes on to state that the units are being provided so that developers can ready their iPhone applications to take full advantage of the more powerful hardware, and that the source’s unit is kept in a safe at the company’s offices when it’s not in use. A report from earlier this week claimed that Apple plans to begin production of the next-generation iPhone in July or August, with shipments set to begin in September.
Actually the 5 is coming in Sept. per reports. Apparently the Japan earthquake pushed back manufacturing. Also the June meeting where the iPhones are typically introduced is rumored to be iOS only talk, no hardware.
Attn JB experts, I need some help! I got this guys iPhone 3GS it been on 3.1.2 for a long time and he wanted me to update it and jb/unlock it on iOS 4. I said I'd give it a shot and that I was providing no warranty if anything goes wrong. Well something has gone wrong. I was able to upgrade it to 4.2.1 while preserving the baseband using a guide on redmond pie but after restart the phone stays in DFU mode and I can't get it out. I was able to get it out of DFU and into recovery mode and at that point it freezes at the greenpois0n initialized error. I just tried doing a factory restore of 4.2.1 and even an legit Apple ipsw while it restores to the phone the phone is still in DFU when it tries to exit and boot up after restore.
I looked online for how to exit DFU mode and most references I saw was to people using the DFU and recovery mode terms interchangably, they're different. I saw that if I held the home and power buttons for 10 sec then that would exit it but it doesn't work. I've tried Tiny Umbrella, Rec Boot and iReb 4 and the best I could get out of them was into recovery mode like said above but not able to get from recovery back to actually working mode.
Help!

Jk man. I'm not saying it's the same, but when I tried to "jailbreak" my android phone, I messed up and my phone would not boot. I thought all was lost and would have to cough up more money to get another phone. But I kept being persistent and kept searching the web and got it fixed. Sure, it took me 8 hours all the way to dawn to get it fixed, but there was a solution.
So what I'm trying to say is, just keep searching man. You really can't be the only person in the world with this problem.
Wow that HBO Go app is awesome. It's like every episode of a ton of HBO shows are there. I'm going to start watching The Wire since DirecTV's crappy VOD doesn't have much. But over 3G at this time it's not working.
I'm still rockin a 3G, was hoping to be wow'd in June, but I'm not waiting til September for a faster version of the 4.This pretty much solidifies my move to a different platform.
Thanks for all the help guys! I figured it out! I had to upgrade him to 4.3.2 and that worked then since he had been a long time unlocker I was able to get all his SHSH blobs and then use tiny umbrella and iReb to downgrade him to 4.2.1. Then I used redsn0w to install the iPad baseband 06.15.00 and was able to use Ultrasn0w then.
I guess you can unlock on 4.3.x now too but I'm not going to bother with that, I've already jumped through enough hoops to get this working.

iOS 4.3.3 is out with location tracking fixes for iPhone, iPad
Apple has released an expected iOS update that addresses a number of issues related to the iPhone location tracking controversy. iOS 4.3.3 is available via iTunes for the GSM iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, all iPads, and the fourth-generation iPod touch. (Another update, iOS 4.2.8, is available for CDMA iPhone users.)
According to the release notes, iOS 4.3.3 reduces the size of the location database cache, stops backing the cache up to iTunes when you connect your device to a computer, and deletes the cache entirely when you turn Location Services off. There are no other notes attached to the update, though it's possible (as always) that Apple may have slipped some other bug fixes into it as well. (We hear there are bug fixes for the iPod touch, but we're not sure what those fixes are yet.)

that ipad baseband is a godsend. he would've been fucked if it wasn't for that. When I went to 4.3.2 it also updated his baseband to 05.16.00 which currently isn't unlockable so his phone would've been useless to him if it couldn't be unlocked.
quick help please.
I'm trying to transfer the songs from my iphone 4 to a new labtop. I searched around and it says i need a specific software to do the transferring. Can someone recommend a good reliable software??

Yeah my 3G is laggy as phuck. Probably because I'm running the newest software on a phone with a slower processor.
I really want the white 4 but I'm going to wait and see what the 5 has to offer.

Guys with jail broken iPhone 4s, are you using Cydia and what are some "must" have or cool things to get from there. I just started playing with this and there are just too many options out there.
Any ringtones for text messages and such?

This guy at work have been waiting patiently forever for the 5 for months. Meanwhile I keep showing him my Android phone. Then yesterday he shows up with a new Thunderbolt. Says he got tired of waiting.
I wonder how much in lost sales Apple is having with only one new phone out a year, especially if it get's delayed? My wife is also waiting on the 5, she's been brainwashed by Apple, so no chance of her switching.

Another iphone hater, w/o it, you wouldn't have your Android phone you have such a hard on with.
I think Apple is just fine with their sales.

What's
people jumping every six months to another phone. Seems that there's something missing in what they are purchasing in the first place, while people with iPhone keep them much longer than any company out there.

I love my MBP and iPad. Just passing a personal annecdote that someone ditched the wait on the 5 because it's been "delayed" since there are strong competition for alternatives. My comment still stands. Sure the Apple fans will probably stick with the iPhone, but I think plenty of people who might have bought the 5 are looking at alternatives.
I never said that I don't like the iphone.

I'm no Apple hater, but I'm no fanboi either. I love the 3G I've had for over 2 years now and when I bought it, it was the best phone out at the time for me personally.
Fast forward to the present, if Apple wants to break their product cycle, only to release an iPhone 5 that apparently won't be much different than the iPhone 4, well, I feel there are better options out there for MY needs.

Just because I'm jumping off the bandwagon doesn't mean I'm a "hater". (I'm so sick of that term...) And if they blow me away with the iPhone 5 or 6, I'm sure I'll be right back on the bandwagon - hopefully there'll still be some room.

). Love it so far.
