So I just had about a 40min conversation with my friend and during that time the PS on my new iPhone running 4.0.1 acted up 3 or 4 times! Before I hadn't had it act up on me but I hadn't made any calls of substantial length to really test it. So if I were to jump to conclusions after a couple short calls and tell Giz that my new iPhone didn't have the PR issue that would be wrong.

i had some decently long calls with my 4 and didnt have any proximity sensor issues.

when it take the phone away from my face, the display turns back on, if i cover the sensor, the display turns off. just like how its supposed to.


although i did have some dropped calls. the other person thinks its my phone, but i think it was their 3GS, cause that area they live in doesn't have good reception.

Haven't tried the PS test yet, too scared. Also repaired my BT in my car. Waiting to see what happens. The good news is that I have taller ATT bars.

 

I seem to think that the PS is hyper sensitive and moving the phone around slightly while it's still up against my face is what's setting it off. I can't seem to make it do it at will but maybe with practice I can become a master at setting it off!

 

Thanks for the pics Yohan. Yeah, it looks good in the pictures, but I know what you're talking about, the rubber parts are grey right? I'd imagine if the rubber was white, knowing how some peoples' hands sweat, it might be off-white within a month

So I plan to stroll into the new Apple Store in Greenville, SC this weekend with my jammer in my pocket. I'll only screw with them a few minutes, but I want to see how they act when nobody has a signal in the store. I then go on to apply clear nail polish around the antenna and turn off the jammer.

This is a little off-topic from the iPhone 4 discussion but does anyone else have a 3G with the new 4.0 software update?

My phone was working fine until I got the 4.0 software update. I've restored it twice and freed up some memory hoping it would help but it hasn't. It's very laggy when typing and it takes 15-30 seconds to open the home page when I "slide to unlock" it from the main screen, including when I answer calls. The screen won't change over yet I can still talk to the person on the other end.

It seems to me that every time a new iPhone comes out, my current one shits on me. I had the original iPhone and when the 3G came out, it died and had to be replaced. Then the 3Gs came out and my 2nd original iPhone was replaced with a 3G. Now the 4 comes out and my 3G sucks. Wtf.

 

Yes that seems to be a problem on the 3G guess I won't bother updating mine unless only to jailbreak to install android.

Maybe apple can do something to speed It up, we'll see

Coworker said iOS4 basically crippled his 3G and has now forced him to upgrade to the iPhone 4. He said he's getting it when he gets paid (tomorrow).

 

Has anyone gotten a notice that they need to update their billing info for iTunes? I just got this and all they needed was my cvv security code on the back of the card. This happened to me a few weeks ago with my Netflix account it stopped working until I added this info. I had never asked for it before so I guess it was new, which means they should be asking everyone that didn't enter it years ago.

 

It's kind of stupid to allow the iPhone 3G the iOS 4 update and not the original due to hardware limitations.

The hardware in the 3G and original iPhone are the same.
(talking about processor ram and etc)

I guess thou they had to do it cause they didn't want people to bitch about it, even thou they're now bitching how slow it's making their device.

 

How is Apple going to get themselves out of this mess? IMO when the 3GS came out there was no doubt in my mind that it was the right phone for me, but now I don't know. The main thing for me at the moment is the iPod connectivity and the amazing screen. The Incredible is just way faster, though the iPhone 4 is pure sex.

 

to be honest, even 3GS is suffering a bit from multitask feature
if i load navigon and 2 games that are like 100MB per each (all of them support multitask on iOS4), then things start to lag a little.. it's not a huge lag to be complaining about, but it's there

i don't like the way they implemented the multitask
it's not a true multitask, i know, but what is it really doing?
just wasting memory allocation... it occupies unnecessary ram regardless of user wanting in the background or not

maybe an option under setting which apps don't need to be in background or something?
so i can just set certain things like pandora, navigon, etc on multitask tab and others not
maybe it will save some ram space and would suffer less

the hate hype on the iphone4 has been comical at best. my ip4 has been spectacular so far especially in all areas of radio reception. my 3gs was terrible in rural areas (im on a military base once a month in the middle of no where). i had no service with my 3gs and now have 2 bars of signal with my iphone 4.
