Get the "premium" version of AIM or whatever. It costs money, but that isn't an issue for most of us 
oh and before anyone says "YOU STILL USE AIM?!?!?" I do a majority of my texts through IM.... I'm only on the 200/mo plan.

Yeah, I'm signed on thru AIM 24/7. With text notifications, the IM's are forwarded to my iPhone and I'm able to reply right from the SMS app. AIM says it logs off after 24 hours but it never really does.
i call BS, i thought they were still working on that?

I didn't bother with text message notifications on my iPhone. Just turned on push notifications. Cause it'll just load the app if you want to view it.
maybe not, but i read somewhere over 2 weeks ago that 4.0 was JB on the 4.. just isnt readily available..

I've started using the Meebo app (free). It works really well, and I can be signed in to all of my IM accounts.

Ok I was able to test the unlocked 3G with a tmobile SIM and it works with 3G turned off. my question is tmobile going to go after is she doesn't have a data plan and is eating up data w/ teh unlocked 3G?

Push notifications have always been turned off on my iPhones to improve battery life. Replying from my SMS chats is a lot more convenient IMO.

Uhh yea they'll probably charge by the kilobyte if you don't have a data plan.

The point of unlocking a phone for a carrier is to also avoid the higher data charge should you not have WIFI available. So whether it's Edge or 3G, you will be charged data. However on an ATT family plan it costs $10/month unlimited versus $25 for 2GB formally $30 unlimited as long as they see you have a dumbphone. NOt sure how T-Mo handles this. Or if you don't want to use data altogether, block all data and only when using Wifi will net surfing work.

I currently have a a 3G with the $4.99 a month T-zones plan and get unlimited internet with the correct APN settings. I don't think this is offered anymore but you can do a $10 unlimited plan but you have to call in from a razr or something like that in order for them to give it to you.
I have unlocked around 100 phones so if you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.

Well she can't eat up data if she doesn't have a plan. If she goes into safari to try and use it, it will come up she needs to sign up for a plan or she can pay as she goes but has to agree to the charges.

Though iOS4 dues have the cellular data on/off switch, I could turn that off and she'd never know. but I don't want to do that.

Well, when you call in they know what phone you have so they will happily set you up for an internet plan that works for the iPhone but they will charge you $30 a month a believe.
If you call in with a BB, they will want to give you a blackberry plan with the separate email plan or whatever (sorry haven't checked the plans recently). If you call in with a Razr (make a call or two on it first to make sure it registers and check online to see is shows as your current phone) you can get the unlimited internet plan that lets you do nothing on the Razr (check weather, movie times, etc) but everything on the iPhone for $10.
After you get the plan, pop her sim in her iPhone, and set the APN settings (I can type give them to you if needed). Did a friends like this since Tzones, even with the password, can't be added to your plan now it seems.

Starting with iOS 4.x, Apple began performing soft SHSH blob checks for older iDevices. This means that like the 3GS and the iPhone 4, if iTunes can’t get your blobs (due to signing window being closed), the iTunes restore will error out. Therefore, Cydia is now saving SHSH blobs for older devices too. Fortunately, since it is a soft SHSH blob check, it can easily be bypassed by using redsn0w or PwnageTool.
Those of you with jailbroken iPhone3G and ipt2G devices may now have noticed Cydia starting to save your SHSH blobs too, just like it does for iPhone3GS, ipt3G and later devices. That’s because starting with 4.0, Apple started putting a “soft” SHSH blob check in the firmware. The SHSH blob check is very real in the sense that if iTunes can’t get your blobs (because the Apple signing window has closed), the iTunes restore will error out. I'm having trouble finding a working razr. Back in the day all of my family members had one but now they've all either fallen into water or just broken. My friend I don't think has access to one either cause her mom dropped hers into the sink too. Any other dumbphone will work?

That being said, I have the 3.1.2 jailbreak/unlock on my 3G, and I cannot get my mms to work now. What I had done before with the 3.0 unlock is get something from cydia and type in these numbers in the network settings. Now I cannot find that thing in cydia, I just entered the same numbers in the network setting so my edge service is working, and I can send out pics. But whenever I receive pics I get the message cannot fit, or whatever it says. Is there anything else to get off of cydia to get it to work, without changing my network settings( I dont wanna lose my edge service)

did you put iOS4 on her phone? I would get 3.1.2 instead IMO. I tried iOS4 on my phone and that thing lagged like crazy. My phone is so much smoother now. Better than when I had 3.0 also. iOS4 could never keep up with my typing when I text. I literally am sometimes a couple words ahead of it. 3.1.2, no problem. And the ipod app would take forever to open up, and when you first open it up and press play, it again takes some time to play the damn song. That shit got annoying quickly. I think I had iOS4 for like 5 days. Its not worth it on the 3G which only gives you folders, spell check, and zoom feature on the camera.

No, you will not get any charge. I called up t-mobile a while back and they way it works is like this. If you are not paying for their data plan then you cannot get it. And if somehow your iphone is using it up, you will still have no charge. The only way is if you are subscribed to the data plan.

If you need a RAZR, check Big Lots. They were selling the debranded unlocked ones for $25.
Theyed have to dig through whos legit and not...

Anyone with a 3GS d/l 4.0.1. It freaking killed my service as my phone says no service. No it's not my bill as my wife's has signal. I tried sync, turning on/off 3G and Wifi, everything short of a restore. Any ideas?
