After a few days of going back and forth about which iPad I should get, I ended up ordering a refurb 32g wifi model. Saved $170 on the iPad so I added a dock, camera connect kit, and 2-3 day shipping for ~$533.

I don't know if the "reliability" of Verizons network is a factor since dropped calls won't be an issue with an iPad.

Exactly what i'm contemplating. From what i've seen and read, with AT&T you're going to have faster speeds, but with Verizon you're never going to have to worry about having a signal.

i felt like the renders looked pretty cheap in white..

so i'm like the opposite

i will get the white one if it doesn't look as bad in person as the render

yeah all the white iPods, white MacBooks and iMacs where total flops, no one bought those.

Actually, I want to see it in person before I decide. I usually buy my electronics in black but it may just be temporary insanity that makes me interested in white.

Best Buy and Walmart will be selling the iPad on starting on the 11th, so I assume they'll be selling them at 5pm too.

I'll prolly just head over to BB like I did last year and pick one up. Everyone thinks to go to the Apple store and it's pandemonium. I don't want to be part of the craziness and be surrounded by a bunch of Apple tools. If I did I'd sprain my eye muscles from all the eye rolling I'd be doing.

Last year the local Apple store was chaos and the line was out the door, I think mostly due to people who preordered. While the local best buy was pretty much a non event. I slept in late got up hung out for a little bit and then remember hey the iPad comes out today. Strolled down to the local best buy about 2 miles away and picked one up at about 1pm and didn't have to wait in line and they had plenty more to sell. Probably won't be that easy this time but should be much better than the Apple store!

It's not like you have to pay extra because you are using more of their data network or something, there's no difference there between using your phone directly or your phone's connection on a laptop, its the SAME DAMN CONNECTION.

yeah, rant.

edit: I just saw where you said you get an additional 2gb of data. that's great, I guess. but wait, its LIMITED???? it should be UNLIMITED!!! :ghey: yeah.
Don't get me wrong I'm with you on this. I think it's for them to charge for tethering, but what sucks is that there is some idiot out there that will pay it.

Also, one reason why they do it is because of what many of having been doing in their homes, dropping home service in lieu of using mobile services. If many people dropped landline service guess what that means for AT&T in their home markets. No matter if they have the same customers continue to have mobile service, if they dont' have a landline, that means they probably won't have a DSL line either. So those that may have used tethering in their house, would have meant lost profits for the ISPs. So in comes the greed and why they charged. It was only a matter of time for it to happen.

good point.

btw I heard T-Mobile G2 doesn't charge extra for tethering. I suppose if I ever want to stop bitching I can go that route.

But t-mobiles 4g tech is based off of 3g tech so I guess it'd be easier to rollout 4G for them. But 4g isn't ready yet...

So i am a dummy for getting an iphone 4 now when they are coming out with a new one in june. But I heard they are taking away the unlimited plan for verizon if we dont already have it when the new phone comes out. Kinda like what they did with AT&T. I think by getting it now I will end up saving in the long run. I hope so anyway lol. Plus I just cant wait!

Not a dummy just need to learn how to research what is important to you. Hear-say from your friends is not the best source. Enjoy your new phone.

No you're not dumb. The Verizon iPhone really just came out. There's been some speculation that while there will be a new iPhone this summer (as always), AT&T might get it before Verizon does. Which would make sense, as the Verizon iPhone 4 will only have been out for 5-6 months by the time a new one is announced. But no one is certain. There is also talk that the next iPhone will be one device that supports both AT&T and Verizon. Don't regret your purchase, I sure wouldn't.

And unlimited data is highly overrated, IMO. AT&T offers 2GB or even 4GB plans, and if you go over that in a month, they first off send you emails and texts warning you if you're close, then just add another 1GB for $10 if you do go over. Using over 2GB a month on a mobile phone would involve a lot of data consumption. I've had my iPhone 4 since early July and have used 7GB total. And my phone is using 3G data 95% of the time. I don't connect it to my wifi network at home.

^ current verizon iphone already has broadcom chipset that does dual mode (cdma + gsm)
my bet is that new one will get the same chip and works the same way (just like the new ipad 2 for both carriers) and both will get new iphone in june

They aren't making an iPad 2 that works with both carriers. There's two 3G models, one for AT&T and one for Verizon just like there's a different iPhone for each carrier. Supposedly it's because while you can make a phone that works with both it won't be optimized for each. They have to tweak the antennas to work with each carrier since they use different tech and frequencies. So the best way to make a phone is a specific phone optimized for each carrier.

well.. technically, i didn't say one device that works for both..
but if they pulled ipad2 for both carriers (regardless of 1 device or 2 devices), why wouldn't they for iphone
my assumption is that they are still using the same chipsets as far as CDMA and GSM goes
it just makes sense for apple to do so in sales point of view
