Big Block go VROOOM!
And lets also take a look at another graph from the same article...
![](http://static.arstechnica.com/windows_share_1209.png)
67% of the Windows sales were XP. What does that tell you? Netbooks and corporate machines that's what. Not a valid comparison with Apple products.

Market share <> # of sales. A big part of the 67% includes consumers that decided to skip Vista and wait for Win 7 to burn in a bit more. It's like saying that anyone who isn't on Snow Leopard doesn't count...

Because their desktops were the biggest pieces of shit ever, and the last PC I ever owned. Toshiba dumped their desktops and left everyone one of their buyers in the dirt with a big happy fuck you.

I'm not sure what your point is, but Toshiba (laptops only as you said) still holds a 6.8% share of the whole PC market. While Apple's desktops and laptops combined only make it to 7.4% of the overall PC market. (stats from April 2009). Toshiba is small potatoes compared Dell and HP (over 25% each).

I am not sure which I am more disappointed with, the device itself or some of the arguments in this thread...

I would say growth for the entire industry as a whole in recession times not just Apple...but, still...workstations and laptops are what they are and important for alot of consumers in their everyday lives. So, there will still be sales...

Recession has nothing to do with market share which is just a percentage of total ownership (high or low). Hyundai sold less cars in '09 than they did in '08, but their market share surged (eating into the likes of Chrysler and GM). Any analyst will tell you that in a recession, it's market share that matters a lot more than year over year sales.

At the rate we're going, I'm in favor of getting this into R&P...considering how personal it's getting for some.

Everyone hates an apple fanboy because we really like the products and ideas.
Everyone who hates apple is as bad or worse than the fanboys and is too stupid and blind to realize they are just as much in their own little cult, because they think they are too cool to like something popular with the masses.

I don't quite agree with your view on that...A computer is essential enough in day-to-day lives now that when the time comes to replace one (i.e. too old, dead, etc.), it will happen.
You replaced your Toshiba because it broke or whatever on you. If it was chirping fine...you probably would not be in an Apple so soon, correct? Obviously, I'm not you but I would find it hard to believe a person would just spend over a grand on a new laptop just because, well, it's an industry leader or innovative genius if mine works just fine.
Oh wait...that's why I don't have a Mac. Because my laptop works fine.

You just people bashing something they havent even used yet, much like they did the iphone, yet most of them now own one.
Their arguments are as clever as "its an apple, so it sucks" to "its a giant ipod touch"
Yet when app store and what the device can be used for is brought up...you get replies like "it doesnt have HDMI"
Its the typical hate on apple with no real reason, so keep making them up.

This discussion was never about financial viability. Apple is in GREAT shape in that respect. They rake in the money because of their high prices and high margins (and zero debt). Back to the point I made that keeps getting lost in translation: Apple's closed ecosystem is not well-received outside of the pocket-sized market when it comes to market share. This is not arguable. If there is a market for a very big iPod Touch, then this will do very well. If this is trying to be a tablet computer, netbook, notebook, or anything beyond a very big iPod Touch, then I don't think it will fare very well. But as I said, only time will tell.

The irony here is that this "so called" Apple hater just got his Apple Shareholder meeting invitation yesterday. Actually, I sold the whole position a few weeks ago, so Apple was very good to me in 2009!

Well DUH...clearly, srika and I are not impressed with this product and we're Asian and definitely non-Christians.
The ones who are in favor is this big, black Jew and a buncha other Caucasians.
Totally...it's a race and religion issue.

Any argument against the device is pure short sightedness of what this device can mean and has potential for and typical apple hate bs.
Everyone hates an apple fanboy because we really like the products and ideas.
Everyone who hates apple is as bad or worse than the fanboys and is too stupid and blind to realize they are just as much in their own little cult, because they think they are too cool to like something popular with the masses.

And I don't hate Apple, I just don't have any practical application for most of their products, so I cannot justify spending more money on an apple product than a non apple product that can do what I need done. I am also not a fan of the closed system mentality. It has lessened recently, but it has historically been a lot easier to swap out things like HDDs in most windows laptops than it has been in Apple laptops until very recently (as an example). Then there is the use of proprietary connections, cables, etc...

And read my earlier posts yum...I'm on my third apple laptop in 10 years...and not because I HAD to get a new, because I WANTED to get a new one.
Same with being on my 2nd iphone. The fact that I bought a imac. etc etc.

Based on what the iphone was and what we saw it become because of the app store, there is no red herring. Its proven what this device CAN become.
