Angry Birds got updated today for their Rio movie special for tomorrow. I would hold off updating because one of the permissions is asking for access to read and send SMS messages. Rovio said it was an error and are going to update the app on Monday. Seems a little fishy.

HTC widgets are tied down to the stock launcher unfortunately. Good news is that there are better alternatives. I use Beautiful Widgets by LevelUp Studios for my Clock/Weather widget. Its not free but its excellent. Has the same exact features as the HTC weather widget + more functionality/customizablity with different skins.

Fancy Widget is another one that looks like the HTC weather widget. Never used it but heard good things about it:

https://market.android.com/details?i...ancywidget.pro

There's a free version but not sure what the differences are.

That's why I love HTC Sense. The weather just Rolls on the screen. HTC sense was the reason I chose the EVO because it made for an easy transition from HTC TP2 windows phone to android.

It seems widget locker is a major battery drain with my current setup. It also causes my system to slow down quite drastically. Anybody else using that experience any issues?

I found some threads on xda where peeps are going back and forth about whether is drains or not. My phone is rooted and I am bypassing homehelper. Gonna try some new settings and see if the drain is still there.

I haven't used WidgetLocker in a while but when I did, I didn't have any issues. Track your battery usage with Spare Parts or another battery monitoring program. You'll see where the problem is coming from there in the Partial Wake Usage.

Spare parts is built into the ROM I'm running and it just says android system is using the most battery. I think one of the widgets I was using in WL didn't allow the phone to actually sleep.

We'll see how the battery lasts with these different widgets and a reboot. The system lag bothers me more than the battery, but that seemed to stop after I rebooted. It may just be something not meshing well the ROM.

Nice. That would be nice if it worked for existing customers. I may have to go to the store and see what I can finagle.

Lets say hypothetically that they offered this to existing customers, what phone would you get? I already have a G2.

I think they do offer it for existing customers who are eligible for an upgrade. If you have a G2, you should probably stick to it because its a good phone and I believe it is being supported by the CM team. Currently, the MT4G seems to be the phone besides the Nexus One with a lot of CM support.

So the new iPhone 5, I mean Galaxy S II:

4.3" Super AMOLED+, 1 GHz Orion, NFC, Bluetooth 3.0

Samsung needs more creativity in their design department. I guess they're going after the iPhone users who want a bigger screen. At least its running Gingerbread.

One of the devs is working on MIUI for the Epic 4G. Looks like most everything works.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUW53bjL_yE

Hopefully once they stabilize this, it can be ported to the other Galaxy S phones. Still wanna play around with an MIUI build. CM7 is also coming along for the Galaxy S phones. They almost have a stable build especially for the Tab.

HTC Sense for the Galaxy Tab is also coming. The dev who's working on it says he's at 98% and should be releasing it soon. Here's his gallery for some of his work in progress:

Can't wait for Android 2.3 for my EVO. We HTC owners have to wait until Sense is compatible with the new version. From what I hear 2.4 gets released in March. I just got my EVO but I get a new phone almost free every year. My rommed TP2 was getting long in the tooth so stopped waiting. I didn't care about dual core. How much can you safely over clock the EVO's Snapdragon?

Scratch the Experia Play off my list. It's Verizon exclusive and it's coming in March

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2380222,00.asp

The Xperia Play will launch in the U.S. in March on Verizon Wireless, Sony Ericsson said during a press event here at Mobile World Congress. Pricing was not announced, but a Sony Ericsson spokesman said later that the device will be priced in a fashion similar to other Xperia devices, though it will vary from country to country.

The Xperia Play features a 4-inch screen and will run Google Honeycomb. It is the "first mobile device to deliver an immersive gaming experience," said Bert Nordberg, president of Sony Ericsson.

At launch, the Xperia Play will have 50 titles available, which will increase on a weekly basis, Sony said. That includes "Guitar Hero," "Assassin's Creed," "Battlefield," and "Dead Space." It will come pre-loaded with up to seven games to test your gaming skills.

The device features 4-way directional buttons and AB keys for smartphone navigation as well as for multi-key gaming commands.

It is powered by a Snapdragon, 1-GHz CPU and the Adreno 205 graphical processor, optimized for advanced gaming. It comes with 8GB of available space, which can be increased to 32GB.

Late last month, Sony unveiled the PlayStation Suite, which will bring PlayStation content to Android phones. The Xperia Play is the first phone to feature PlayStation Suite, which will provide content through a PlayStation Network Store that Sony plans to launch by year's end.

Sony also promised social-networking components that will allow Sony Xperia users to play against one another.

There have been rumors about the "PlayStation phone" for months, but Sony was mum until a splashy Super Bowl ad confirmed its existence. "The smartphone with everything you need and the one thing you want," according to the tagline. The ad takes place in dark room off a back alley where a man appears to be operating on someone. He eventually starts to pull gauze off the patient's hands, and we see that he has attached thumbs to the green Google Android character. The Android makes his way to the street, thumbs attached, apparently ready to start gaming on the Android-based Xperia Play phone.

At CES this year, Sony Ericsson unveiled the Xperia Arc, a big (4.2-inch screen), slim (only 8.7mm) slab phone running Android 2.3 on a 1Ghz Qualcomm second-generation Snapdragon processor. Sony said that device will start shipping worldwide in March, but also added some new additions to the Xperia lineup - the Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro.

The Xperia Neo features an 8-megapixel camera, and a mobile Bravia engine, Sony executives said. As a result, Sony talked up the TV-related features, including HDMI access and support for HD video as well as the ability to use the Neo as a TV remote.

The Xperia Pro includes a slideout QWERTY keyboard, inspired by the company's X10 Mini Pro. The Xperia Pro includes a feature known as "smart keyboard," which will intuitively guess what application you want to use. If you're looking at e-mail, for example, and slide out your keyboard, the Pro will switch to a "reply" function.

The Xperia Neo and Pro will both run Android Honeycomb. Pricing was not announced.

Stay tuned for more hands-on images from Sunday's event.
So I'm back on iPhone fence or a very sick ATT Android phone this summer that I haven't seen yet.

What's wrong with the Atrix 4G? Minus the dock price. Specs look pretty excellent and ATT seems to be pushing for Android this year since they lost the iPhone exclusivity. The Galaxy S2 is looking pretty nice as well. Just sucks that Samsung is the one making it. Although they did deliver on Froyo in the international realm like they said they would and supposedly Gingerbread is being tested at the moment for the current Galaxy S line.

Its kind of a shame that its coming with a 1ghz Snapdragon. As a gaming chip its not very good and on a device made for gaming its a miss. Since its running Honeycomb they should have gone dual core since that's the first android os that will truely support that.

Wait, that looks like that's for the international Galaxy S. i9000 = international Galaxy S model. SGH-897 = Captivate. Link to the thread where you're getting this?

You could also try the Z4Root method. You have to sideload the Z4Root apk and install it. All instructions found here:
