It worked really well actually. It was my daily ROM for a while with my Google Ion which is basically a G1 without a keyboard (same specs) until I got my Galaxy S. (So I was using it for about 2 months?) I had to overclock it but it was usable and had about 70% of the Froyo features. It did lag but thats because the phone lacks RAM (Only 192 MB), something most phones nowadays have a lot of (512 MB). Otherwise, I had no issues with using it as my daily ROM.

Looks like it just got even better! The new Yahoo Vid chat program got leaked with the new MyTouch 4G ROM that came out the other day. Supposedly it works iPhone to Android, Android to Android and Android to YM on the PC! Only works in Windows however. (They're saying Yahoo has to update the Mac YM version.) I haven't tried it yet but it came from the EVO forums. Check out XDA for the apk file before it gets taken down. lol.

So I'm delving deeper into the abyss of modding the droid phone. I can't help it. It's so much fun!
I ugraded to rom manager premium. If anyone notices you don't have to spend 4.99 in the app store. Spend 3.99 from inside the program itself. Good shit.
I dl"Ed the 1ghz low voltage kernel. Holy crap my phone got an extreme boost. I'm using amgala's profile setup and it's like a damn wet dream. Kind of silly Steve jobs talks a lot of shit about these phones.
Also ugraded to premium cachemate. It finds a lot more temp memory to delete. Cool.
I really can't complain that my modded droid 1 feels like it's keeping up with the competition of other droids. Lol

Oh wow, Gingerbread details! Android 3.0. Supposedly the SDK is dropping next week so developers can play with the code:

Thanks for keeping up with this Mike!
I cannot wait to see what happens with this... heck, my EVO is barely using its brain and it is so fast and capable... I am stoked about gingerbread!
One thing about Android, you won't ever be bored!!! I love it!!!!!

Got a T-Mobile myTouch Slide yesterday. This thing is fun as hell, I officially have too many distractions from work. Google Sky is awesome .. and Angry Birds is stupidly addicting. Can't wait to find out more!

Sorry to sound like a complete idiot but I've been noticing my LG Ally is running like shit, it's very very slow to switch between apps, even just browser and messaging. Is this something that is particular to this phone or am I doing something wrong?

Have you tried formatting and wiping data? Are you rooted, stock?

Good stuff! Looks like the mod bug hit you just about the same time it hit me. Looks like we both have the D1 with the 1 gHz low voltage kernel and same SetCPU settings. I've DEFINITELY seen immediate benefits to my battery life and phone performance. Are you running stock Froyo or some other ROM?

Very weird. Maybe Yahoo is blocking the apk intentionally by saying its a virus since its not supposed to be released yet. I'm running Avira and it didn't pick anything up. I've had the app since yesterday and its actually pretty good quality. Now if they can get the front facing camera to work on my phone it'll be exactly what I need.

Check out CacheCleaner as well. Its free and it deletes stuff Cachemate doesn't cover. I run both religiously at least once a day. lol.

LG is particularly new to Android. Unfortunately, the Ally is more of a midrange phone in the realm of Android phones. Its a capable phone but limited due to its 600 MHz processor and only has 256 MB of RAM. So it is just the phone.

Holy... The G2 has been overclocked to 1.42 Ghz.

Definitely love modding! Im at 1.2 gHz (Ultimate Droid) and have great battery life. I actually bought the Droid 2 extended battery/cover for an alternate battery. It literally adds the width of a nickel to the back of the phone and on average after 12 hours off the charger, I'm at 50/60% (medium use). Well worth the purchase.

Yeah flashing ROMs becomes addicting. lol. I was flashing a new ROM every other day just to try out all the different themes, tweaks, new features in each one.

Saw this and very disappoint. The Apple 3G is $30 more with a larger screen. The ATT plan only $5 more for twice the data. Plus Verizon stores will sell the iPads too. I'd just get a 5" Dell Streak for half the price since the Tab is only 7".

...on XDA, the biggest complaint is that the front facing camera on the galaxy rigs is not recognized... ...i am sure they will firgure it out soon..

Winamp just released their Music Player for Android. It got pretty good reviews so far for a beta:
Source: http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/10...-ass-hands-on/
Have I gotten a treat for you music lovers? Winamp, the very first good music player for Windows ever – I still religiously use it to this day – hit the Android Marketplace today, largely unnoticed in the Androidosphere.
It’s still in Beta, but after using it for 15 minutes, I was so impressed that I set it as my default player and uninstalled the others. Let me tell you why, in the order of importance.
Hands-On
What an excellent first version, Nullsoft (that’s the maker of Winamp). Simply stellar!
There are a few small bugs, such as a weird "SD card error" background when scanning the SD card and an oddly formatted initial notification (see the last screens), but for a first release, this is amazing stuff.
My only wish at this point is Shoutcast streaming support – if you can think of anything else, feel free to drop a note below.
Download
Hurry up and click this QR code if you’re on your mobile device or scan it with Barcode Scanner:

Looks pretty cool. Hopefully there's more minor changes like that. Make the UI a little bit more fancy.
Gingerbread’s Screen Off Animation [Exclusive Video]
by Quentyn Kennemer on October 21st, 2010
We promised we’d be digging for more information about Gingerbread well ahead of its coming out party, and we’re making steady progress. We initially broke the news on Monday. While most of you remained skeptic thanks to the world’s worst screen grab ever, we expect some of you have come around to trusting us now that the YouTube app we talked about in that post officially launched a few days later. Today, we have a little bit more.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k2ivG...layer_embedded
What you see above is what happens in Gingerbread when turning your screen off: a cool effect not unlike what we used to see when turning a TV off back in the tube days. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but it certainly is nice and it’s worthy to note that this is the first time we’ve seen animations of this sort triggered upon hitting the designated screen off button on your phone. Note that no theme for any custom ROM or any version of Android is able to trigger such an animation, leading us to believe that this is – in fact – the real deal.
That’s it for now, but again, we’re always digging for more. Stick with us as we try to get the blueprints of this sweet house laid out before it’s ready to be built.

Maybe Yahoo is blocking it......I also didn't have problem e-mailing it to my friend through GMail. I'm hoping they don't try to keep the new YM as a MyTouch 4G exclusive. Then again, XDA will probably hack it anyway to work with other phones. lol. But it would be nice to get full video support from a real company. Hopefully, it'll push Skype to release their videochat app soon and Google as well, although the word is Google will have a native video chat app in Gingerbread.
Yeah Angry birds is fun. Very handy in Epidemiology lectures...lol.
