Android: Phone News and Discussion Thread
Just so anyone else that wants to get one knows, you can still buy one.... just keep hitting F5. People are managing to order and get confirmation of shipment as late as 5 minutes ago. Guess Google is just stretching it out so the play store don't crash as badly.
I don't like how you have to use Google Wallet to buy devices from the Play Store though.

Great so I called T-Mobile and they said I don't have an upgrade available cause of the plan I have. And if I want an upgrade so that the phone is subsidized then the plan will be more expensive. I'm guessing I'll be buying this phone unlocked now... gotta talk to my dad first and ill probably go to a T-Mobile store later to confirm this.
Wish I knew this so I could have tried to buy it online!!

Is there a difference between the unlocked Nexus4 from the playstore and the Tmobile's Nexus4?
I will be tied down to my family contract for 2years anyway so it doesn't make sense for me to get the unlocked version unless there is a significant advantage.
My understanding is that the two versions are identical.

T-Mobile WiFi calling won't be included on either as its built into the ROMs now instead of an APK. (SIP and other VOIP will always work though.) They'll be the same hardware and software wise. The only difference might be that the T-Mobile version on contract will be locked into T-Mobile's network. They are going to sell an unlocked version for $499 though if you don't want to go through the Play Store.
I'll be locked into my family contract for the next two years anyway and I have an upgrade available, which means I'll be buying the Tmobile version tomorrow!
Time to call around and see which stores have one in stock.

So interesting note about 4.2. On my Nexus 7, it seems that the hotseat icons have shrunken while the icons on the main desktop got slightly bigger. Not sure if this is how its supposed to be but noticeable. Also, the font seems a little more pronounced than before? Not sure if its just my eyes.
For people getting the update wondering why you're not getting Pinch to Zoom in the new GMail 4.2, you need to enable it in the Settings. Not sure why its not turned on by default but I thought my update didn't have it. To activate it:
GMail --> Settings --> General Settings --> Auto-fit messages
In there you can also change the swipe behavior. By default, one swipe = archive, two swipes = delete.

Also, a tip for people using Photosphere:
Turn your body and phone around the lens of the camera. Keep the lens in one spot as much as you can. People are taking the Spheres by moving the phone around instead of the lens. It will minimize the stitching errors if you take them keeping the lens in one spot.

Wait I'm confused from this article: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2412104,00.asp
Nexus 4 unlocked is $350 for 16gb no contract.
$200 for Tmobile contract.
$499 for Tmobile unlocked?
The heck does that mean?

T-Mobile will subsidize the phone for $200 if you get it on contract with them but it will most likely be locked to just T-Mobile. If you want the unlocked version from T-Mobile no contract required its $499 which is retarded.
So I've noticed, Android 4.2 has a Group SMS setting in the stock messaging app...I think it is what it means but I don't use the feature enough to test it for you guys. I'll try to upload a pic of the setting but I'm not in front of a computer right now.

So the Droid DNA Announcement was overshadowed by the Nexus launch yesterday:

Seems like the best screen tech out there right now.

On a side note, I love the gesture typing feature on 4.2. Makes posting so much easier with my Nexus 7. Lol.
So some people discovered an easter egg for the Daydream (Screensaver) feature. When you do the JellyBean game trick by pressing on the Android version in Settings --> About and flick the jellybeans, it'll allow you to select that as a daydream setting.
I'm interested to see what people come up with for daydreams. Someone suggested a daydream that would go through your different feeds: Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and then have them scroll during daydream. That would be pretty cool. Someone created a "mirror" daydream that uses the front facing can while your device is daydreaming in the play store.
Also apparently adding widgets to the lockscreen is open to any app. The developer just has to add a few lines of code. Falcon has a beta app floating around out there so you can just place a Twitter widget as your lockscreen. I can see this happening for weather apps and whatever other apps utilize the feature. The good thing is you can rearrange the widgets on the lockscreen as you please.

Nexus S
Yup thats what i'll be waiting for. Hopefully i get the 4 before that happens though. THink ill stop by the tmobile store today though
I believe a prop.build change will bypass that check. Or someone has to modify Photosphere to not check for which device its on. Its probably due to the Nexus S being EOL and not being upgraded beyond 4.1.2 officially. I'm sure the custom ROMs will get 4.2 on it though.

Google support says within 2 weeks they'll get more shipment. Some people are saying on Friday they should have some more for sale. I just hope they won't have stock issues next month. Lol. Then again my Galaxy Nexus is doing just fine for now so I can wait if I need to.
Just go to the playstore every now and then or whenever you have free time and spend a few mins there F5'ing. Sometimes you will get lucky and can still order. I know some people have been doing that and got through. They are just trickling in I guess.
Also note, you will need a micro sim to use the phone. T-Mobile is currently sold out:
http://prepaid-phones.t-mobile.com/p...Activation-Kit
You can buy a micro sim puncher on Amazon out eBay though for $5 with an adapter if you don't want to wait.

theres a chrome extension that refreshes the page every second and looks for the words delivery 3-5 days, or whatever you set it too, i have that running right now haha
I manually flashed 4.2 on my 7 and Nexus. I haven't really played with photosphere too much yet cause I'm stuck at the library the whole day at the moment for the past few months. Supposed to be studying. Lol. I took one of my room and it came out pretty good. Just gotta rotate around the lens and the stitching should be fine.
A bunch of apps need to be updated for 4.2. I'm guessing you're not using the stock video player to play those movies. I use MX Player and it needs to be updated. Flash seems to be working just fine though so I'm guessing it's a small code change for the devs.

AT&T blocks certain apps. They even blocked GTalk video chats via 3G. Luckily that stuff can be fixed via root.

@ Group MMS !!!
for the Gnex soon
