NBA: 2010 Season News and Discussion Thread **Dallas Wins Title 4-2 (page 84)**

It ain't gonna happen IMO. After thinking about it for awhile, I think either the Melo camp or Denver was using LAL as leverage...which happens quite often. Motivation wasn't from the Lakers, or so I read...
They asked for a Gasol-Melo trade too

Celtics really need to trade for some big men in Feb.
Oh..if you are talking about JO, he won't be playing. And Shaq is only available for 2 weeks of play after every 2 months.

I don't think it's about the number of big guys that they have but the quality of the ones that actually play in important games. I looked at the Game 7 box score from last year's Finals and saw Boston really only went 6 deep for their double digit minutes rotation. They started their same 4 starters 1-4 and Rasheed at center. Big Baby was the only double digits minutes off the bench guy. Meanwhile LA went 7 deep into double digits. 3 of those were Pau, Odom, and Bynum all 6-10 or taller. Boston only had KG and Rasheed at 6-10 while Big Baby is shorter. That's why some think Perkins being out mattered.
Now of course you can argue who is the best 5 on the court. Potentially it would be Rondo, Ray, Pierce, KG, Perkins vs Melo, Kobe, Ron, Lamar, Pau. That's a pretty sick Laker lineup.

lol... all this talk about the Lakers match up with Boston, I wouldn't even bet on the Lakers going to the finals this year

The cart's before the horse a bit.
Right now, it looks more like Spurs vs Celtics/Miami, to be honest.

Yeah your right I was thinking the same thing about the leverage and also Denver would be stupid to trade Melo in the same conference especially since they currently in playoff contention and if that trade happened they probably would fall out. There are so many reasons why it wouldn't make sense for Denver to do that trade but if it was real the Lakers should do it all day and not think twice.:

I don't see why Denver won't do it if they're going to lose him for nothing in the offseason anyways and a NY deal falls through. Bynum is better than nothing and with Melo gone Denver isn't a free agency hot bed. Regardless this won't trade won't happen. And don't sleep on the Lakers guys. Just because the Spurs are red hot for now, they could tail off after the break or worse.

Who knows... We could have a NBA Finals between Suns and 76ers.

But with next season in question and the lack of quality bigs out there, I have my qualms about trading away a 23 y/o 7 footer without getting a big in return.

When it comes down to it for all the marbles the Spurs can't beat the Lakers in a 7 game series besides I think a healthy Dallas Mavericks team is better than the Spurs.

I certainly think of all teams, the Lakers have displayed the least of their game. What we hear here in LA, the Lakers themselves sound pretty confident...its the fans that are freaking out, lol.
However, I've tried to stick to assessing teams in the here and now. There are some teams that are doing well right now that I personally think are very vulnerable in the playoffs or won't be able to sustain their midseason energy.
If you look at the minutes per game, Kobe's played much less this year than last. By the same token, he doesn't practice with the team, so when he gets in the game, they aren't in sync. I know, excuses, excuses....
IMO, they are just trying to make it to the playoffs intact. It sure as hell requires patience as a fan....

Jazz and Bulls game last night confirmed what I already thought, DRose is the best point guard in the league. Totally outplayed Deron Williams - "Fast don't Lie"

it's the truth....DRose is the best PG in the league right now! all the coaches, players, former players and sportswriters have said. DWilliams could not defend fast and speedy PG. I was rooting for Chris Paul to be pick by the Jazz during the draft several years ago but they opted for the big bodied PG.

^^DRose is so good, he got the longest tenured coach in all 4 major sports fired.
Man, what's next?

Congrats to ray ray...he got hung out to dry by kobe at the end though.
Sorry to see Jerry Sloan go. I think he stayed a couple of years too long, to be honest. But he deserves a lot of credit for sticking around too...

Also, congrats to Shuttlesworth! Too bad they lost the game though.

I would say Boozer failed to lived up to his contract (and seems to like to switch teams.)
I guess it was just no fun being "average." With Boozer gone, I'm sure Williams wants to go too.

you are from TX and both of those teams are from TX, need to prove any point? bottomline is, they would be lucky to pass 1st round in playoff.
remember couple years ago when the Mavs had the best winning record in regular season and couldnt' pass 1st round by the warriors, the 8th seed?
