t is impossible to define what constitutes a deterrent in the 21st Century NHL, but reviewing the rosters of the Bruins, Blackhawks, Kings and Sharks would probably be a good start. They are big, strong, and as mean as required. Nobody trifles with these squads. Nobody messes with them. The Rangers aren’t in that class.

Seems the Rangers can't get a bounce & every goalie has career games against them.

Lose on a SH goal after getting 43 freaking shots????

WTF???

Don't forget that Boston only had 4th liners scoring against "king henrik".

Pretty much all the action tonight was the B's 4th line. Fight, 4th line center, goals, 4th line wingers.

They came out with a lot of energy compared to the last 3 games that is for sure. However, the Hawks peppered Varlamov with shots he was just really on last night and well Crawford appeared to be really off as well.

Watching the highlights from yesterday. After the Rangers first goal was deflected in off the d man legs, Raask immediately motioned towards the D as if to say WTF. He does that a lot. Have to think his team mates aren't too happy about that and it may bite him in the ass one day. At least I hope it does. Douche.

Crawford had zip chance on those 3 goals. Hung out to dry...The Avs are like the Oilers for Chicago...gives the team fits.

I am not saying he is great. But the first line was scoring lots of points when he was on it. He was a physical presence on our first line. The only real physical presence we have is our fourth line. I mean Landeskog throws some hits once and a while and so does Hejda but not often. I know Hejda flattened one of the Hawks last night.

"The NHL's 5 best forward lines so far"

1. Anze Kopitar-Justin Williams-Dustin Brown, Los Angeles Kings

2. Jonathan Toews-Marian Hossa-Patrick Sharp, Chicago Blackhawks

3. Mikko Koivu-Zach Parise-assorted, Minnesota Wild

4. Tyler Seguin-Jamie Benn-assorted, Dallas Stars

5. David Backes-T.J. Oshie-Alex Steen, St. Louis Blues

http://beta.thescore.com/nhl/news/356772

Technically the Kings line should say "assorted" in place of Brown.

...and is there an Eastern Conference in this league anymore?

They've been stinking up the joint. Even the great Datsyukian Deke has been scoreless during skills competition. Howard has been less than stellar also.

Oh and thanks for paying me a premium for this Saturday nights game, tickets are in the mail. Don't forget to settle up on paypal: ultra-alfie@hockeytown.net

Yummy cakes, where has the founding father of hockey talk gone? I feel a bit lost without his insightful and timely commentary on the state of hockey.

^ I believe his vast hockey knowledge that was shared with us daily (or when the Blackhawks were in the playoffs) didn't go unnoticed. NHL teams were fighting to bring him on board in any capacity. A hockey mind like that deserved a bigger platform. He was hired as VP of hockey ops and GM for the still unnamed expansion 2nd team in Phoenix that the Count will be announcing shortly.

I'm actually in VA right now. Surprised that the local news peeps around here actually talk hockey.

But I'll get a better gauge of interest after a few well placed Cap/Ovechkin vs Crosby questions today .
