So, what the Jackets are asking for is not unreasonable.
And Nash is a top player...the ones you've listed are not...while they are good, they are not of Nash's caliber.
Jagr signs 1 year deal with the Stars. Has always been my favorite player.
Yes, the Stars have signed a few OLD players but I think it can be good veteran experience mixed the the young players.

Age does take its toll on the mind, just ask NuttyPro. Not sure about senile, but a hint of desperation, perhaps. Just speaks to how thin this offseasons free agency market is. I'm not a big fan of all the eggs in one basket approach, yes Suter is talented, but he's not a bonafide superstar. Sounds like this is all a moot point anyways since Parise and Suter appear to be headed for The Wild.
Wings def need some help on the blue line, losing Stuart too was a big blow, he was underrated in my book and one of the few guys on the team willing to throw his body around. Detroit has put too much emphasis on puck movement and finesse in recent years. Ever since the departure of the Grind Line (McCarty/Draper/Maltby), the Wings haven't truly had a solid checking line.
Helm is fearless, but he's not big enough to lay the hurt on people. Abdelkader will use his body, but one doesn't get the sense that he relishes contact ala Doan or Dustin Brown. Bottom line, Detroit needs to add more grit and I'm not convinced a pint sized Tootoo is the answer. Getting Sammuelson back instead of Hudler is a wash, Vancity already rode that horse during his prime.
I really like Brendan Smith, he's got big upside. We need to get bigger, younger, grittier. Losing out on the Suter/Parise sweepstakes isn't the end of the world.

I still keep reading that Chicago is in on Suter and Parise as well. Don't see why they would want to do this considering they had problems absorbing Campbell's contract just last summer.

So, by taking their talents to...Minny...does the Wild (at least in the short-term) ice a good team?
The core: Heatley, Setoguchi, Koivu, Parise, Clutterbuck, Suter, Gilbert, and Backstrom.
Not bad. Not scary...but, not bad.

Contracts like these for players such as these are the reason the season will be shut down.....a new CBA is clearly needed. The league cannot survive with those kinds of contracts/$$$$.
...but in the end it's the owners who scream bloody murder about the $$$....and at the same time it's the owners who sign said big $$$ contracts.

Word on the street that the group obtaining signatures to fight the City of Glendale's lease agreement with The Jamison Group has obtained appx 4,000 sigs (they needed less than 2,000) and plan to turn them in today (3 days early).
So basically the lease will be going to a public vote in November...... Doan will probably be leaving Phoenix and the Yotes may be playing their final season in AZ.
Oh boy!

Not really sure I like the signing of PA Parenteau by Colorado. I feel that what they paid him is going to take away from the ability to resign some crutial pieces of the current team that are younger. They may not have produced as much but I kinda feel that Parenteau season was a bit of a one time thing and he is getting older too now.

I'd just like to see the B's do something this summer to get better than they were this year because this year wasn't good enough. Marc Savard is still on the books, he could add the scoring but he'll probably never play again. Nathan Horton is a great player when he's healthy but is looking like one of the more concussion prone players in the NHL as well.
I love a team that can roll 4 lines for 3 periods and the B's showed that could win a championship. The problem is while all 4 lines are very capable of scoring goals, we don't have a line that is the "goal scoring line". We get consistently good D but we don't have anyone who can be that consistent goal scorer. Playing, "who's gonna be the hero tonight" every night is a tough strategy to use.
In the 5 years with that system, we've had 2 first round exits, 2 second round exits (including being the 3rd team in history to screw up a 3-0 games lead in the playoffs) and one Stanley cup that required 3 game 7's and 25 total playoff games to acquire.
Not that I expect them to win it all every year but making the playoffs isn't much of an accomplishment for an Original Six team with good revenue and good fan support.

Supposedly (and I use the term very loosely), his agent has reached out to Holland numerous times in recent days. Given that we were 2nd in the Suter sweepstakes, I'll believe it if/when it actually happens.
Hiring Renney is a pleasant surprise.

The lease is going on the ballot, the peeps in Glendale are not going to vote to finance it, the "new" owners are probably going to walk.....and the Yotes as we know them will be DOA.
Doan is not going to want to be a part of that mess.
He's gotta think about the future. Is he going to live with his family in a state that will have no team?
I think he ends up with the Wings....they are desperate after not landing the big fish.
Why would he sign with a franchise that is almost guaranteed now not to be in Arizona by this time next year

In fact, I'm surprised they didn't go and pay up for Carle.
I'm actually interested to see how the Pens, Things, and Flyers react now given the D issues they were looking to address in free agency.
Kopitar has The Cup today in Slovania.
