The Pink Things? I suppose anything can happen...but, signing Doan does zip to address their gaping trench on D with Lidstrom and Stuart gone.
In fact, I'm surprised they didn't go and pay up for Carle.
I'm actually interested to see how the Pens, Things, and Flyers react now given the D issues they were looking to address in free agency.

"What people need to understand about this guy is it would have been very easy for me (on Sunday) to taken some of the teams I've spoken to and said, 'OK, let's get something done," said Doan's agent Terry Bross. "(Doan) especially said to me, 'Listen, we're not taking offers. You can tell teams I'm interested, but we're not even taking offers until we know what's happening at home.'" Doan wants to see an ownership group in place because his preference is to remain in Phoenix, but the uncertainty surrounding the team isn't helping their chances.

I don't think I'd ever call him a stand up guy or fighter, but if the rumblings are true, I'm glad we only give him a 1 year deal instead of long term
Hopefully, you can take your Waldorf Jr. with you at some point soon.

If I was a player interested in winning a Stanley Cup, I would be leaving Washington too. Even though Pittsburgh may be your biggest rival, they are a winning team.
Winter Classic 2013: Red Wings, Maple Leafs will play two alumni games at Comerica Park
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-pu...6522--nhl.html
Comerica Park is the home of the Detroit Tigers. How appropriate, then, that the 2013 Winter Classic will feature a doubleheader of alumni games between the Detroit Red Wings and the Toronto Maple Leafs scheduled for Dec. 31?
"We started out this process with the alumni game of trying to put together a roster of 23, 24, 25 players in Detroit. Ultimately, we reached out to Toronto and felt that we had so many players that we wanted to bring out and honor as part of the alumni game. Toronto's in the same situation. So we decided to have two games," said Red Wings GM Ken Holland at a Wednesday press conference.
He estimated that with rosters around 25 players for each team, that's upwards of 100 former NHL greats for the Wings and Leafs that could participate in the alumni festivities. Which means there's still a chance Bob Rouse gets the call for Detroit, and/or that the Leafs reanimate the body of Syl Apps in order to fill out the rosters ...
The details haven't been worked out yet on these two alumni games at Comerica Park. Which, incidentally, Wings owner Mike Ilitch operates, unlike the Big House where the Winter Classic is scheduled. Hmmm ... two alumni games at the ole ballpark would be a dandy way to maximize revenue, said every cynic in hockey. Keep in mind Comerica was Ilitch's first choice for the Classic.
"We're not exactly sure how we're going to break down the game. That's something for another time," said Holland, who said he grew up a die-hard Leafs fan.
"For me to sit in this stadium and watch all these great Red Wing players and Leaf players on the same sheet of ice will be absolutely incredible."
The announced alumni for the Maple Leafs include: Darryl Sittler, Rick Vaive, Wendel Clark, Doug Gilmour, Dave Andreychuk, Darcy Tucker, Kevin Maguire, Mike Palmateer, Curtis Joseph and Felix Potvin.
The announced alumni for the Red Wings, coached by Scotty Bowman: Gordie Howe (yep ... perhaps in a ceremonial role), Mickey Redmond, John Ogrodnick, Luc Robitaille, Dino Ciccarelli, Chris Chelios, Darren McCarty, Joey Kocur, Chris Osgood, Mike Vernon, Kris Draper, Kirk Maltby, Ted Lindsay, Alex Delvecchio, Mark Howe, Larry Murphy.
How they'll play four grind-liners at the same time is anyone's guess …

Says here he is giving the Coyotes till the 16th.
http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=637672
Shane Doan is willing to give the Phoenix Coyotes until next Monday before he starts considering other options available to him in free agency.
Doan originally set a July 9 deadline to get a new multiyear contract done with the Coyotes. His initial deadline coincided with when he was hoping to get more clarity on Greg Jamison's bid to purchase the Coyotes.
However, the deadline came and went without any more clarity on the ownership situation. Doan, though, isn't ready to give up on the Coyotes, so, according to Fox Sports Arizona, the longtime Phoenix captain has set a new deadline of July 16.
Just like his first deadline, Doan's new one coincides with when he is hoping to learn if Jamison's deal to buy the Coyotes will proceed or if the matter won't be resolved for several more months.
"I would say if we don't have an answer by the 16th it may be time to get serious about listening to other teams' offers," Doan's agent, Terry Bross, told Fox Sports Arizona.
Doan's future -- either in Phoenix or elsewhere -- is being clouded by issues that are far from the ice.
Jamison's bid to buy the Coyotes includes an approved 20-year, $324 million lease agreement with the City of Glendale. That agreement passed in the city council by a 4-2 vote but was subsequently held up in court early last month.
Two Glendale residents who oppose the lease agreement, Ken Jones and Joe Cobb, have been trying to gather enough signatures in order to get a referendum on the November ballot regarding the deal between the city and Jamison.
Jones and Cobb initially had 30 days from the date the lease agreement passed in court to gather the signatures and submit the petition for the referendum to the city. Their deadline was July 9, but they argue that they didn't receive the paperwork necessary to move forward with their referendum campaign until a week after the lease agreement passed, so they should have 30 days from that point, which takes them until July 16.
Even if Jones and Cobb get enough signatures and submit the petition on July 16, it's unclear if they will have to clear legal hurdles in order to get a referendum on the November ballot. That could take more time to sort out, and time is not exactly on the Coyotes' side when it comes to potentially re-signing Doan, who has played his entire career with the franchise, moving with it from Winnipeg to Arizona in 1996.
"Unlike the majority of athletes, he takes responsibility for this organization," Bross said. "Don't think it's lost on him that it's going to have an impact in more ways than on the ice if he leaves. That's why we're dragging our feet on this."
Bross has said Doan has interest from 11 teams. The Los Angeles Kings reportedly made a contract offer to the forward earlier this week.
Doan wants to sign a multiyear contract and his hope has always been to remain a Coyote, but if the ownership issues aren't resolved or at least proceeding as planned by next Monday he might have to start considering his other options.
"We thought (Monday) we would have closure," Bross said. "Now it's hurry-up-and-wait again."

Among the pillars of a new-look CBA should the owners get their way when the current version expires Sept. 15 are:
--- A reduction of the player's share of hockey related revenue to 46 per cent from the 57 per cent it is currently.
---10 years of NHL service time to become a free agent, up from seven.
---Five year contract limits - Ilya Kovalchuk signed a 15-year deal in 2010 and Zach Parise and Ryan Suter signed 13-year deals last week.
---Players would not be eligible for signing bonuses
---Entry level deals would extend from three years to five.
Also, the New York Post is reporting that the definition of what is hockey related revenue would be redefined under the NHL proposal so the players would be getting a smaller share of a reduced gross number.

That's the first "pie in the sky" offer.
They know they are not going to get anything near that, but you gotta start somewhere.....set the bar high....and work it down from there.
Coyotes referendum rejected

Associated Press
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- The Glendale City Clerk's Office has rejected petitions that sought to put a referendum on the November ballot about the Phoenix Coyotes' pending arena management deal.
City officials said Monday that the petitions missed the July 9 deadline by three days and lacked the required 1,862 signatures.
The two Glendale residents who spearheaded the referendum turned in 1,568 signatures last Thursday.
Ken Jones and Joe Cobb said they wanted to give voters a chance to decide whether to overturn Glendale's 20-year, $324 million lease agreement with potential Coyotes buyer Greg Jamison. The City Council approved the deal last month.
The NHL has yet to finalize the sale to Jamison, a former San Jose Sharks chief executive. But league officials say the deal still is being worked on.
