Well NHL isn't tied to the Las Vegas betting regulations as the NFL is.

Thanks. Its really a shame the city of Detroit is located on the West Coast. If only it was in the East, We could have had such a great rivalry.

Last night was such a frustrating game to watch, seemed like no one on the team came ready to play.

At this point it would most likely be better if the Rangers blow the last game and go away.

I just don't understand how they beat Boston and Philadelphia and lose to the Islanders and Thrashers.

This is from a story about fans throwing items onto the ice...

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc...urn=nhl-wp2020

That's referee Frederick L'Ecuyer getting all creeped out by the dead fish, prompting this instant-classic line from the Wild booth:
"Oh, just pick it up. It's just a salmon, for cripe's sake. You act like it's poison. It's just a salmon!"
So this is symbolic of … what, exactly? The Canucks always swimming upstream in the playoffs and eventually getting smoked?

Hawks. Brought it.

Like I said before...Wings don't scare the Hawks. Season series so far is now 4-1 for Chicago.

One more and here's hoping United Center will be a madhouse on Sunday!

Last time I checked, they don't etch regular season records on Lord Stanley's Cup.

Your obsession with Hockeytown amuses me. Quite frankly, Wings have been coasting for the last two months, saving energy and trying to get healthy for the playoffs. Babcock is not an idiot. Everyone knows desire and effort trump skill especially this time of year. Throw out the regular season, the real season begins next week.

Speaking of teams I've been impressed with, the Pens without their two most talented offensive players - now that's impressive. Pens fans should be thanking their lucky stars that Bylsma had tutelage under Babs.

I don't understand how the Rangers did not clinch the 8th spot today. They have 93 points and 44 wins. Carolina has 91 points and 40 wins, therefore the best they can hope for is 93 points and 41 wins.

I am not sure I don't prefer to be out seeing as they will not go far, I just fail to grasp how Carolina can edge the Rangers out.

It's all base on points, with more losses and less OT wins, it gives Carolina more points, with four less outright wins.

Read this, it'll help http://www.helium.com/items/1332713-nhl-points-system

I understand the points. My confusion comes in when they both have 93 points how are more wins not the deciding winning factor?

Assuming the Hurricanes win tonight, they will have 41 wins and 93 points. The Rangers have 44 wins and 93 points so they are tied in points.

I fail to see what bearing losses have if that team has more wins.

In this case they will have three more wins and two more losses.

Thanks for the link btw.

Because it is based on points, not wins, loses and "ties", only points. They wouldn't look at others things unless a tie were to happen.

Right, so If The Hurricanes win, they are tied in points. So wins should be where the tie breaker goes first no?

Here it is:

Carolina needs to win to unseat the Rangers --- and 'Canes can do that in regulation, overtime or a shootout. They just need get two points in some shape or form. A victory would give the Rangers and 'Canes the same amount of points and they both enter with same amount of regulation/overtime wins (35), which serves as the first tiebreaker. The 'Canes, however, hold the second tiebreaker with a better overall series record against the Rangers.
Carolina is 8-1-1 in its past 10 games, but the 'Canes have dropped three of the first five meetings between these two Southeast Division rivals.

I fail to understand why wins are not doing it still.

The series record is 2-1-1 favor of the Canes, so that is why all games count. I see a lot of fussing coming out of NYC about this, the Rangers could have easily have afford this with some better play in the last two weeks.

It is the current system, but just given 3 points for a win, would fix this.

Like I said, they deserve to be out with losing to eliminated teams twice last week, but I think wins should be tiebreaker 1.

They can't get past Philadelphia or Washington so being eliminated now would be merciful.

I am however sick of being eliminated on the last day of the season (or having that be a possibility)

If you used three points for wins, this is how the current standing would total

Wash 155
Philly 149
Boston 149
Pitt 152
Tampa 146
Habs 137
Buff 136
Rangers 137

Canes 131

That looks better. I just have a very hard time with 3 more wins and the same number of points not winning.

If it happens maybe we'll finally get rid of Sather.

The Rangers have more wins from shootouts and those don't count in a tie breaker. Because the Rangers are at 93 points after 82 games and the Canes are at 91 after 81, the canes could tie the Rangers for points with a win in their last game.

Rangers are 9-3 in the s/o Canes are 5/5 or Rangers have gained 9 extra points from the s/o where the canes only got 5.

Subtracting those points, the Rangers stand at 84 points and the canes are at 88. If the Canes pick up 2 points in their last game, NY plays golf even though they have more notches in the win column.

You don't get to go the the Stanley Cup Playoffs because you did wicked good in teh skillz competition, you have to win hockey games.

Then the "skill competition" needs to be done away with.

If they are wins they are wins.

It's 3-0 so without a major change the hurricanes will be playing golf.

Regardless the Rangers do not deserve to go far seeing how they fold under stress.

And by the way, I like the outcome today better than yesterday Yankee Red Sox wise.
