I disagree that the curse is real. Think about it. Since 85-86 season is 36 years of hockey. The president's trophy team has won the cup 8 times in that span. That is 22% odds of winning it. I promise that no specific ranking of finishing anywhere from 2-16 in the playoff rankings has a higher percentage of win from one another. If you told me my team had a better than 1/5 shot to win the cup if I finished first in the league, I think those are pretty good odds.
I get if you add up the chance of every other place to win that it looks better but statistically speaking I think it is still the best shot. I have not calculated the win percentage of the other spots but I bet it still checks out. The thing that pisses me off is the new ranking format. The old format would allow this to happen less I think. Seeing that Florida was 1 and Tampa was 3 in the west there was no way they meet before the conference finals in the old format. I don't believe any team 4-8 bounces the Panthers this year in the east. The old format we would be watching Panthers - Rangers and Lightning - Canes in the east. That said I think we are still going to end up with what I think are the two best teams in the end in the east in the Lightning - Canes conference final.
The same goes for the west although I am personally happy for the current format as I do not Colorado to be playing the Oilers the way they are playing and how bad we have been playing. Hopefully, they come back down to earth for the next round or Colorado wakes up.

All the hate those Blues fans have for Kadri for an unfortunate accident of a play was funny. The fact he netted a hat trick in their building was hilarious last night. That crosscheck tackle by Perron also deserved more than 2min in my mind playoff officiating or not.

That said, the Avs -- even without Girard -- are insanely deep...and arguably only matched by the Canes/Bolts in depth. Any team left in the West is cannon fodder...I don't see Edmonton getting past Calgary -- though, if the series ends, the Flames should shoot themselves for allowing the Oilers back despite having a nice 3-1 lead in Game 2 to end up losing 5-3.

The venom and racism now hurled at Kadri is just disgusting.
Berube didn't help the situation either.

Kadri is an easy player to hate and in past years, his boneheaded penalties have sunk his teams. That said, the hit on Binnington was accidental...it's not even a gray area like how Trouba pasted Crosby IMO...

Flames look toast.
Again, Game 2...in control...3-1...and you give a team with fragile confidence that life back...and well, now they believe. Edmonton likely to take Game 4.

A) I think this guy is stalking me.
The New York Rangers have a problem. Well, they have a few problems, but one of them has been pretty glaring since the word “go” in the team’s opening series against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Rangers have two defensive pairs it can trust and one d-pair that is responsible for me searching for my anxiety medication mid-game and me shrieking at volumes that really should have resulted in law enforcement checking my apartment for a corpse by now.
B) With all of this said, I keep circling back to the big picture. This team is not a Stanley Cup contender even if they are one of the last eight teams left standing. Can the Rangers win this series? Of course they can. Can they get to the Cup Final? Sure they can. It’s the playoffs — anything is possible. But this team — with its third line made up of guys who may have literally eaten a Lunchables within the last decade — is a work in progress. This is most evident with that third d-pair which, essentially, is a developing defenseman learning to swim in shark-infested waters and a veteran rental who was brought in to do the job that Nemeth couldn’t do.
Omg I'm literally lol

Still unsure if it is Calgary playing awful or Edmonton finally putting everything together at once. Either way I don't see Calgary recovering at this point.

So, go figure. That said, McJesus going supernova is no fluke and the team has rallied to him...And again, I can't say it enough and yes, I'm biased but...adding a future HoFer who has won all the Cups, Norris, and Conn Smythe has done wonders for Edmonton. The idiots in the press or blogs who railed on the Oilers for trading for him are eating some big-time crow. There are some metrics you just can't freaking measure and having Keith has just really stabilized that blueline. It's like a team saying no to a Crosby or Stamkos or similar from joining their newbie line-up for a playoff run...Who the fark says no and hates on that?

I am entertained this year though...the sheer number of Game 7s in the first round was heaven...a good alternate to not seeing my Hawks in the dance I guess.
The shocker so far is still the Panthers getting spanked in 4. At this point, I'm not ready to call the Flames done as we've seen teams return from 3-1 before. But, they need first start with Game 5 (dur...Captain Obvious here). Thanks for the idiocy of racist fuckers online and the Blues' own idiocy, the Avs have probably found their rallying point with Kadri...St. Loo is done like dinner. I expect the series is done tonight and Denver can basically prep to roast whoever comes out of Oilers/Flames.
The Rangers/Canes is entertaining and I'm not sure I like NYR's shenanigans (Trouba with another WTF hit yesterday)...I'm sure cabby will protest but, of the teams left, I'm just not a fan of the NYR's -stirring...I still think Raleigh will advance. I want them to take out Tampa and go to the Final but yikes, if Panthers got pasted, I'm not sure if Canes can take out Tampa in a 7-game series...

WTFBBQ Colorado. You totally shit the bed on that one. That series should have been over. The fact that Mackinnon's goal was not the game winner and going down in history as one of the best game winning performances is a shame in itself. He was a beast last night and tried to put the team on his back and the team let him down.

I am not expecting them to lose the series either but the last 2min of hockey they played were awful. I don't agree with Landeskogs choice either to not take a shot at the empty net with a guy on him on the icing side of the red line. It was worth the risk to end or seal the game. He lost the puck and wasn't able to kill enough time anyways by not taking the shot to matter in the end. Was hoping they would get some rest before the next series. Hopefully, they will close it out in game 6.

There are stars and then there is McDavid.
Look, we've had some insane players the last few years...so, Crosby, Ovie...but, McDavid...on skill alone...he' on another planet. Even the homer in me with the Hawks, not Toews/Kane at their peak is in the same zip code as McDavid.
Wow. I called it to my wife that when he got that puck in the slot in OT, he was scoring. Too much room and space. Congrats to Edmonton...they have proven me wrong. If their reward is Denver like I expect, well, it's going to be an insane series with McDavid/Leon versus that awesome arsenal of the Avalanche...but, hey...Oilers believe and they just might make the series interesting...

You can't deny that the whole series changed after Crosby got knocked out with that elbow to the head either. Pens were on their way to eliminating the Rags till that dirty play, and many non Pens fans have told me that as well
