Not that it matters but Sid, Toews, and Weber named captains and alternate-captains respective of team Canada.

I usually root for the US, except when Sid is playing them in the gold medal game. Honestly it was just some of the best hockey I've ever seen and it was a 1-0 game. Honestly I just root for good hockey to watch.

Ah...I watch them similarly then...there isn't a country I root for (unless it's Finlandia because well, they are the bestest of the best) usually. Just want entertaining matches...and I do keep an eye out for Hawks...and hope no one gets injured.

You guys really think it will be that boring of hockey to watch? I mean the Olympics usually have good games so I would think these should be as well.

It'll be good hockey, just the whole concept is a joke. It's the fake Olympics, and the Count is trying to suck up to ESPN to get them to actually cover highlights on Sports Center. The whole concept is a joke
Pittsburgh is hosting 2 "preliminaries" and charging ridiculous money for them, that's why I'm not going

Wow I did not even know that there were games outside of Toronoto. I thought the whole thing was taking place there. I haven't looked into it much just excited to have some hockey to watch earlier than normal this year honestly.
That is pretty shitty though they are charging crazy prices for the games.
The NHL burned the original bridge with ESPN back when they gave the TV contract to VS (Versus) and I don't think it has ever recovered in my opinion. I still have old recordings on VHS tape form Colorados 96 stanley cup run. Commentating by the guys from ESPN were so much better than anything there is now.

It's career day in elementry school where each student talks about what their dad does. Little Johnny is last, and finally the teacher calls on him to talk about his dad. Johnny comes to the front of the class. 'My daddy is a dancer at a gay bar. He takes off his clothes for other men, and if they pay him enough money, he goes into the alley and performs sex acts on them.' The teacher is shocked, and she calls for an early recess for the rest of the class. She sits down with Johnny and asks him if this is really true about his dad. Johnny says; 'No, but I was too embarrassed to say he was the General Manager of the Oilers.'

Than to get raped for a mediocre midrange d-man? Yes
Team Owner
so you're suggesting all other 29 GMs are a bunch of tools who don't know that Edmonton is hurting for a decent D man, like they have been for 5 years now.
Got it.
Got it.

Fuck, blackack, are you serious? You do know we tried trading several other players besides Hall, and the other GMs were like "hmmm... naw. We want *that* guy"
So Chiarelli bent over and gave them what they wanted, for what we needed. Or is it better to keep Hall and do nothing yet another year, like they have the last five years with Hall, and still end up in 28th-30th place, because he can get close to 30 goals in a season? His goal count isn't even that great. He got, what, 26 goals last year?
While Edmonton will still suck dick this year (and next, and...), there's no fucking way they will do as bad as last year. Not sure how that's seen as a huge fail. They've acquired enough guys to make up for Hall's departure. Now it will be interesting to see if they can mesh well and play.
And for the record, I'd be thrilled if they get to 24th place this year in the standings. Shitty? Yup. But still an improvement

I thought habs offered subban to Edmonton for draisital and no 4 pick. but they declined it. A bit steep but pk would have helped them ALOT more than that larrson goof.
Anyways, I'm kind of excited that we got shea weber, he's a monster.. Habs to the cup yo

If there was no salary cap to contend with, Edmonton would have dropped the money on Subban in a heart beat.
"You want $9M per year? How about $10M per year instead?"

if mcdavid plays all 82 games this year, he will have some astronomical statistics
but you're right, he's going to get whatever he wants and rightfully so. He's once in a lifetime player

I'll reserve that judgement for when he does play an entire season.
I'm not saying he's bad. He's not. But I'm interested to see how he does after playing 82 games (or close to it). As long as he doesn't miss almost half the season again.
He would have had some pretty good numbers for his rookie year if he played the whole year, but not the best in the league, by any stretch. Granted, he's a rookie. But lots of rookies tend to slump in their 2nd year and then pick up the pace after that. Let's see what happens this time.
You are right though- whatever he asks for, he will likely get. I was wondering how that would play out- I believe his entry level contract was for his first 3 years. So after that's up, will he get 10M? Or will he get a very nice pay raise, but still be around 7M, with room for him to grow even further, after that contract? Edmonton has a history of overpaying mediocre players, for whatever reason (mostly that no one wants to come here). I wonder if this will be the same.

Is that confirmed to what Montreal offered...? Mind you, with what the #4 turned out to be, I could see why Edmonton would've refused to trade...STILL, I would take PK over Larsson. Dunno, maybe other factors involved like ridding the locker room of Hall...who from what I hear was not exactly as "great" as what some Oilers fans think of him -- at least in the locker-room/personality-wise.
Let's get on with the count's money grab shall we bishes!

Holy...that was an exhibition game between the US and Canada?
Dafuq are they going to do when the tourney actually starts?

Then when the olympics roll around the "we don't want our guys getting hurt in a meaningless tournament" argument is officially off the table
