So escrow payments will be 16% this year up from 14% last year. Players have been getting about 1-2% of it back in recent years so they've increased their available pay but most likely will see a decrease in what they are actually paid. The NHL is becoming a Ponzi scheme, between taxes and escrow players are losing up to 65% of their contracted pay. Apparently there are quite a few players who aren't happy with the cap escalator being used again.
When does the current cba expire? I'm looking to be well prepared for the counts 4th work stoppage.

Loocheech is an UFA...so, the GM that is never wrong has depleted his farm and picks for no Cups. Ouch.

So while on my "league financial state and the salary crap" kick, I saw Yandle is now a Florida meow meow. 7 years (not really) 44.45 mil (possibly) or 6.35 mil a year (well for at least 5 years).
The CBA expires 9-15-22, we've got 5 seasons left for teams to start making money and Canadian dollars to move up in value (since Canadian teams all make money it's .75 on the dollar to contract money).
Any contract singed this summer that is longer than 5 years (lasts into the 2022/23 season) is a fake deal considering the league has failed to hit projected revenues almost every season of the current cba.

Un. Real.
Oilers at #4 get a "GIFT" because Columbus bypasses the 3rd-rated player in Puljujarvi...so, instead of packaging this pick now that Puljujarvi is available to get help on DEFENSE, what does Edmonton do? Draft another winger.
Because...clearly, offense wins Cups.

Good luck in Moan-ray-al, Shaw...tough to see him go. But, two 2nd-rounders for a grinder isn't terrible...

Once the CBA expires the deals aren't solid. In the 04-05 lockout, old contracts that bridged into the new CBA were reduced by 24%. If you signed a 8 year 4 million a year deal in the summer of 02, the 2005 CBA cut your pay by 24% for the remainder of your deal and all 2004-2005 contracts were completely eliminated from existence.
In terms of the deals being fake based on league revenues, that where the escrow comes in. Escrow is essentially like a tax return players file with the league. Because the league doesn't know where revenues stand until the end of the year when everything can be calculated, they take a percentage out of the players actual paychecks (just like most employers do for for federal/state taxes). At the end of the year, the league calculates its finances, I believe the most players can be entitled to (all players collectively) is 53% of league revenues. If all player contracts add up to more than that percentage, they don't get all of their escrow payments back essentially meaning their contracts are worth 11-13% less than what they actually say on paper.

im sincerely hoping that the retar... er, Oilers, decided to just draft him for now, to essentially secure a desirable draft pick, and send him off in the next few days. Will it hold true? Probably not. This is the fucking failboaters... Er, failbOilers at it once again.
It's just disgusting. When Columbus picked Dubois, I was like, OKAY...maybe Shirellatini will be smart and package the #4 pick who everyone would LOVE and one of their $6M "core" players to get that top pairing d-man. Here we go. My jaw hit the floor when they kept the pick and decided to draft the Puljujarvi kid. Holee shiet. Edmonton's like the Cleveland Browns of hockey...heck, they just may make the Browns look like a well-run franchise.

People are so fucking crazy about hockey here. Ticket prices are absurd. The oilers have had zero chance of making it to the playoffs, let alone ending the season higher than 27th place over the last DECADE, and yet they STILL sell out EVERY. SINGLE. GAME. I only go when I get free tickets. I'm not paying $350 for two shitty seats, not far from the nosebleeds, to watch them lose 4-0. Why does everyone pay so much? I'm guessing it's because this is Edmonton. There's fuck all to do here for 5 months of the year, and hey, coincidently hockey just happens to be on at that same time.
I I don't know what upper management is doing anymore. No one does. We replaced the last set of clowns, for apparently, new clowns. I had some real hope for Chiarelli to make some changes, but they're still doing the same shit they've done for the last decade, expecting a different end result. Isn't that the definition of insanity?
Im interested to see how the next little while goes. Im not expecting much though, to be honest. And if that is the case, I'll likely stop watching games so much this upcoming season.
Id honestly cheer for another team these days, but it's hard to follow teams that are far away and with limited tv coverage. I don't know how others do it, but I find it hard to get behind another team. Sigh.

I think it's more following other players than other teams. Max Domi impressed me in international play so I watched a few coyotes games. Seguin can do some impressive things on the ice so I'll occasionally watch Dallas as well.
Might be be easier on the Atlantic coast though. I can watch my home team and then another game when it's over

So, if that's Shirellicaroni's play to improve the Oilers' chances, you guys can ring in that idiotic arena you're all paying with your tax dollars with yet another Top 3 pick next Draft.
At least in Calgary, you can see a concerted effort to improve. Was Brian Elliott the solution in net for the Flames? Dunno...but, at least they went for it. Edmonton picks another forward. I am sadly snickering as I'm typing this...I'm guessing the idea is to have a lottery pick in ALL 4 lines? Like, I dunno.

BTW, are there even more provisions in next year's draft to prevent Edmonton from being in the Top 5...?

One of the guys who never has to buy his own beer at the bar got too many "his rounds on me". Ray Bourque got himself a nice dwi after driving his GL450 into the back of a Toyota Sienna.

Side note, I didn't know Ray lived less than 5 miles from me.
