Well, the NHL both missed the point and went full retard all in one move.
4 on 4 overtime is gone, now it's 3 on 3. This may make more games end before a shoot out but it certainly isn't taking away the "skills competition" aspect that most hate. It's a team sport, the more you reduce the team aspect, the more it becomes a skills competition.
Also what happens when a penalty takes place in the final 2 minutes of regulation? Does one team start with 4 players, then the penalized player is released and we're back to 4 on 4 and then both teams lose a player at the next whistle?
They should have just followed the AHL model, 3 on 3 occurs as a last option before a shootout after no one has scored in 4 on 4.

Other things like challenging goalie interference on the table: NHL to have 3-on-3 OT pending approval - Article - TSN

And salary cap set to what Deano had always knew and predicted since he was born: $71.4M.

Apparently it was the whiney millionaires who screwed this up, not the whiney billionaires. NHLPA said no dice to adding 2 minutes to OT to follow the AHL model. They said 4 on 4, 3 on 3, but no fawking way will we play 2 extra minutes.

I agree its not perfect. But seeing a game end in a 3-3 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> seeing it end via a shootout.
And when are changes to the point system coming? A regulation win should be worth more than a 3-3 or SO win. I realize it will kill parity but at least teams won't be playing for OT/SO.
Should be
3 - Regulation Win
2 - OT/SO Win
1- OT Loss
0 - SO Loss

It will accomplish 1 of 2 things, my team either confuses the hell out of the other team and scores and gets 2 points or the other team laughs at us while they shoot on an empty net. Best case scenario we get 2 points worst case scenario we get 1 point but I guarantee you my team will never ever go to a shoot out where we could potentially come away with no points.

You need to inspire the teams to win in regulation and punish them for letting point slowly slip away for going to OT, and another valuable point slip away for going to the skills comp. This would make teams who fail to collect there points playing normal non gimmick hockey not make the playoffs either. If you're collecting a large portion of your standing points in a fashion that does not exist in the playoffs, why should you be in the playoffs?

I love the idea of the goalie joining the rush

One of the biggest highlights of my life was seeing a goalie fight in person, I was jumping up and down like a little kid. Poor DiPietro the glass goalie got his cheek bone broken by a left hand punch Ever since Roy vs Osgood fought in the 90's I've always wanted to see one in person. Nowadays they don't even let the goalies come together anymore

That's the rumor, they want him to play with Malkin, I think at this point they're trying to placate him and make him happy since he wasn't happy with his wingers this year, he wanted Hornqvist after they traded Neal.

Some teams have great luck with Russian players. Seriously.
Hawks? Not so much. Can't think of one who really panned out in Chicago as GREAT. Zhamnov is probably the "best" of the bunch and that's reaching.

Obviously. Kimmo was the reason Chicago won the Cup. Those 5 second shifts he had...man, were they evar special 5-second shifts.
I can just imagine Coach Q: "Aight, Kimmo...you're up next! Go circle the ice once and get your @$$ RIGHT BACK. ONE CIRCLE. THAT'S IT!"

And Philly all celebrated like they won the cup cuz of those 5 second shifts
Trolling Canuckistan
It's not the time he spends on the ice, it's his time on the bench with his teammates that matters. It's rumored that in game 4 he told the team the tale of the otters ransom. Inspired by the Scandinavian god sitting beside them on the bench they never looked back.

I'll say this, seeing him get the Cup was pretty cool. It's really too bad Kimmo was a shell of his former self because he was a pretty darn good d-man.
Chicago certainly got fleeced in their trade with Philly in hindsight but then again, when you win the Cup, I don't think management cares that much.

They traded for him hurt, they wanted a veteran to fill a bottom D pair and locker room presence and that's what they got. I've never been a fan of his just because he played for Philly, but I loved seeing Johnny T single him out and hand the cup straight to him, classy as hell

So it's looking like expansion is happening. I'm thinking we should all pool out money to get the 500 million expansion team. If our group wins the bid, we could out the team in Toronto so dom could finally have a pro team in his town.
We could call the the Toronto domchanators.

That won't work unless everyone in the NHL is terrible at strategy or the only goal is to eliminate the shoot out. If I'm coaching and we're down to the last minute of OT, I'm sending the goalie in on a scoring rush.

And isn't it pretty much a slam dunk that Seattle and Sin City are getting these teams?
Senior Moderator
^ Please don't. Leave Phoenix/Scottsdale and also move out of Miami.
Fans in those cities really don't care about hockey. Move those teams to Seattle and Quebec City.

Trolling Canuckistan
Somehow one east needs to move west or the west needs 2 more teams. The only way Quebec gets a team is if a current eastern team is relocated and there are 2 expansion teams in the west.
They're trying to fix the 14:16 allignment. Dom may be wrong about the cities (IMO he's right) but he's right about which side of the continent they're on.
Trolling Canuckistan
BTW, all you bitches should go hang out with Kimmo and have him tell you the tale of the otters ransom, or just google it and read it yourself. You get Loki, Odin, Dark Elves, the Bifrost, it's practically a freaking Marvel movie.
No wonder Chicago was so inspired

Letang suffers a stroke, recovers fully, returns to play hockey again, has the best season of his career, and doesn't win the award for perseverance and dedication to the game of hockey?
A goalie who gets traded to become the starting goalie and does his job as starting goalie wins it... nice

Oshie may be younger and the "sexier" name but, if you took away the other stars on Chicago's relatively stacked team, Sharp is a top-notch, 1st-line player who has 3 Cups to his name and also one of the alternate captains on a team with Captain Serious, Seabrook, Keith, and etc.
Look at his numbers and compare them to Deano's greatest player ever, Jeff Carter...now, excuse me because maybe Moog will REALLY return to tell me to put down the bong and that Jeff Carter should never be compared to such a lousy player in Sharp and rather, Crosby or Toews instead.
All Oshie knows is how to choke in the playoffs.
