When Boston is officially eliminated tomorrow at around 3:30 The party begins
Then watch as Boston gets a higher pick than Toronto in next weekend's lottery.

Kinda funny that the one team the MIA guy who is NEVER wrong that is supposedly in cap perma-hell and etc. etc. made the playoffs and his team, with Deano's brilliance, is um...not...
That's all I gotta say.

They never replaced Iginla because he still had 4.1 million on our cap. They gave away Boychuck (talent/huge locker room presence) for nearly nothing and replaced him with inferior parts in Miller (injured most of the season) and Bartkowski (everyone wished he was injured to keep him off the ice). Despite acks feelings, Thornton is a very respected and valuable player in any locker room he walks into, he's a rugged forth line team building expert who pulls the group together. Even though he's on the lower end of the talent scale, he's the most determined player on any team.
You can't go into a season with that many holes in the line up and expect good results. On the positive side, Iginlas money is clear next year so they could potentially fix the problems of this year and at the very least we can be thankful we aren't Toronto. So we got that going for us either way.

Go back to the beginning of the season portion of this thread and see how often I said this wasn't a playoff team. Go to the trade deadline, see how I said don't trade away good pieces for a half hearted run at the playoffs.

However, with trades and accumulation of depth and young prospects, it IS possible to float water (i.e. make the playoffs and hope lightning catches) while the new blood grows/learns and matures into replacements that can help with the next title.
Shiarelli probably didn't get enough for the core-ish players he traded away...
What's Boston's pipeline like overall? Any good incoming players?

Not Deanos fault. We all know Deano's plan would have worked out perfectly if it wasn't for that meddling Ray Rice.

Personally, I am a bit surprised the Bruins didn't make it...I did seriously have them pegged to get in with the core they have. Winning it all? Probably not...but, had them making it. It's too bad and perhaps if Loocheech didn't float around half the season like Chicago's Bickell and actually made use of his abilities, maybe Boston would've won that extra 1-2 games to get them in.

They might have had some extenuating circumstances in their failure this year. How would Chicago do if we threw on of their top players in the gulag for the season but didn;t provide them cap relief for half of it?

He started to get some of it going with Spooner and Pastrnak but that was mostly because Spooner has been called up several times and made the very conscious decision to not pass up any shots this time. Pastrnak is extremely talented but he's a 165lbs kid (youngest in the AHL and NHL this year) playing against 230lbs men, he gets rag dolled on a nightly basis. They aren't terrible, they're actually pretty good but they certainly aren't Krecji and Iginla.
The biggest reason they aren't going is being completely incapable of winning a shootout. If they could have gone 50% they'd be 3rd in the division.

Well, it's going to be an interesting 1st round. I would love to be in Winnipeg to take in that first game though...

Mebbe the Bruins missing the playoffs is karma for the supple-soft balls Brady liked to throw with to cheat in games?

1 point to clinch, 1 frigging point... The way the Pens have been playing, I'm just hoping they get 1 point

Well, at the remaining tilts for the limbo teams out East. Pens should get in and if their d-men can return in time, well, they are as good as anyone in the playoffs.
