That's only because they haven had the chance to draft him yet. But you know what they say in leaf land, there's always next year.

And probably thought it would be fun if the bruins missed the playoffs. I think it's going to make him hate me even more

I'm used to the losing, the failure, the missed opportunity. You on the other hand, you must be burning up inside. Your big bad Bruins are on the way to irrelevancy and will be there for quite some time. Welcome to the club.

As for the Leaves, it's been bad for a long time but the cleansing today has pretty much rewritten their sorry history books. It's never been this bad. But can only go up from here.

@simmonssteve: "The best job in hockey," an NHL GM told me today about the Leafs. "It might be the hardest job with the most pressure but it's the best."
And that's why Babs is coming.......he who wins the Cup in Toronto will become a Hockey immortal.

Meh, a couple adjustments and they're good to go. Plus, it's Boston, one of our other kick ass teams will win a championship this year, oh wait, they already did

Just remember, if your team wins the Cup, it's because Deano let them win it.

Having given it some thought, it occurs the officiating has been so bad for so long it is obviously obvious there are several of those per game for both sides.

What karma thing? We all know I love the Hawks to death but even my myopia of namebrand goalies doesn't transpire to make Chicago's GM and every prospect the second coming of Jesus or Kanye West...?

Well, hang on, unless by karma, it means that every single one of the regulars in this thread tastes bitter defeat because dom had to suffer all these years of watching inept hockey...

Well, then...hang on...my Hawks have been eliminated plenty by other teams in the playoffs to-date since I started to participate. So, I have bitternesseseses...

Penguins weather injury storm to reach postseason with help on way

Penguins weather injury storm to reach postseason with help on way | Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

By Jenn Menendez / Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The first time the Penguins were forced to play with just five defensemen, Ben Lovejoy logged upward of 27 minutes of ice time.

That, he joked, would have been the equivalent of time amassed over three games in his previous stint with the Penguins.

The joking is over. The salary-cap woes that hamstrung the Penguins from recalling an extra defenseman the past three weeks now disappear when the club opens the playoffs at 7 p.m. Thursday against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

To stop the Rangers offense and its considerable depth, they will need all the reinforcements they can get.

“Six ‘D’ is awesome,” Lovejoy said. “I will never complain about too much ice time. It’s fun to be out there. I think we’re a better team when we have six.”

That’s a very diplomatic way of expressing what nearly turned disastrous.

Both statistics and the naked eye prove the Penguins are better with six defensemen, as well.

The Penguins were tied for a league-worst minus-21 goal differential their final 14 games, a stretch in which they were just 4-9-2.

The combination of injuries to Christian Ehrhoff, Kris Letang and then rookie Derrick Pouliot, coupled with the club being up against the cap, was nearly a recipe for disaster.

It certainly equated to a tired group of defensemen.

In the Penguins’ final game of the regular season Saturday at Buffalo, Ian Cole topped the minutes chart at 27:20, followed by Rob Scuderi (26:28), Paul Martin (25:50), Lovejoy (24:47) and Taylor Chorney (15:35).

Those totals were frequent over the season’s final month.

“They’ve been taxed to the max,” coach Mike Johnston said. “The minutes they played, how they played, has been outstanding.”

In the final week, the club was essentially playing with four NHL-caliber defensemen plus Chorney, a minor league veteran who has fulfilled the challenge admirably.

“You look at a guy like, maybe a guy who gets unnoticed like Chorney, how he’s come up and handled playing, the pressure of playing high-end minutes against some top players over the last week,” Johnston said.

Now, they can breathe easy, at least for a few nights.

The club recalled defensemen Brian Dumoulin and Scott Harrington Sunday from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton allowed the fewest goals in the American Hockey League this year (153) and Dumoulin finished the regular season with a plus-25, Harrington plus-19.

Johnston said he expects Pouliot to be available for the playoffs and there is an outside chance Ehrhoff could return, as well.

Regardless what little playoff experience the two bring, they would allow the taxed defensemen to take a breather.

“Five ‘D’ is always hard, especially back-to-back with travel,” said Cole, who then chuckled when someone asked if playing with five could somehow be beneficial heading into the postseason.

“I think there might be some times you might have a little more gas in the tank later on in a shift, for sure. But, like I’ve heard before, no one’s going to complain about too much ice time. We had a job to do, we tried to do it to the best of our ability.”

New York produced a plus-60 goal differential this season and managed to go 18-4-3 while standout goalie Henrik Lundqvist was sidelined when he sprained a blood vessel after taking a puck to the throat.

They have significant scoring depth.

Rick Nash scored 42 goals, veteran Martin St. Louis added 21, Derrick Brassard another 19, and rookie Kevin Hayes had a surprising 17.

The Penguins earned the final wild-card spot in the conference after game No. 82 at Buffalo and will be playoff underdogs for the first time in recent history.

“Was it stressful when we kept losing games? And taking it down to the wire? Yeah, it was stressful, without a doubt,” Cole said. “I think we handled the pressure well. We went out in a very businesslike manner and really were able to get the job done when it counted. There’s a little bit of relief. But I think there’s a lot of excitement going forward, too, in being able to play a great team in the Rangers.”

Step 1: Shanaban 20+ employees.

Step 2: Suck some more

Step 3: Hire new President/GM/Coach/Front Office in 4 years. Rinse & Repeat.

If it makes you feel better, read the MacTavish's year in-review about his Oilers.

Leaves were on pace for 44 points after firing Cralyle!!! Not even Edmonton could touch that number.

Kings VP of Hockey Ops and Player Personnel is apparently a candidate for the Leaves GM gig. If you can't get the best (Deano) you get the next best thing.
