It is what it is, he's our franchise goalie, they're sticking with him.

As for the D, when Letang had his stroke, we were playing a d-man at wing, and sitting another 1-2 in the press box. We got D

But, I'm sure you know the difference between reliable D versus plain ol' defense. Do the Pens have a problem where they have a clear-cut say, #1 and #2 but the rest of the pile are all #5s? If that's the case, doesn't really help no matter how many you have in the inventory.
I don't watch the Pens enough to tell you what the depth-chart is...but, you catch my drift right? The normal convention, and what Waldorf and most of us are saying is that, Pittsburgh MAY have been better served going after some experience in the back-end versus getting Goc and Stempniak.

Of course I catch your drift, but like I tried to tell you earlier, 5 of their top 6 (before Letang had a stroke) D-men were all reliable veteran players, they were only starting 1 rookie who has been above and beyond what anyone thought he would be at his age. Their "depth" players who are 5th 6th D, weren't even getting to play until injuries hit earlier in the year. When you're playing 1 of your top 6 D on a wing as a forward, and you have another 1 or 2 in the press box, you don't need D

And yes, they will miss Letang, he plays 20+ minutes a game, however he's already been out half the season, so it's not like all of a sudden they're without him
The sizzle in the Steak
^^ When the playoffs come, it's all about defense.
I know you don't like it, but it's the truth.

I'm well aware of that thanks. Martin, on of our top D will be back before the playoffs, and we are still sitting 1 way contract players in the press box, so I'm not worried.

And who said I don't know that or like it?
The sizzle in the Steak
^^ You seem to deny it, mostly
It's not like it's just one guy in here who thinks the Pens got D and goal tending concerns for the playoff run.
Scuds was a huge pick-up for the Pens, but with Letang out, and never addressing the inconsistent goaltending.......I think the Pens have not filled in all the "holes".

Like I said, only time will tell. They're doing fine in the standings, and with goaltending right now. The true test for the Pens is the playoffs. I don't deny anything, I'm just stating how many d-men they actually have. No one outside of this city seems to understand that.

Went to bed and thought the Pens had that game. What happened?
I can't believe that the entire Central division is in spots 2, 3, and 4 in the league right now.
Nathan MacKinnon broke a Gretzky record. This kid continues to amaze.

I fell asleep after SJS tied it 3-3
Must be cuz we don't have any D or goaltending

Well, the Avs shocked the hockey experts by taking MacKinnon over Drouin or Jones. Looks like they knew what they were doing.

Definitely seems like they knew what they were doing. Although I will be interested to see how Drouin plays next years. I think Jones will take a few more years than expected to develope.

Any of you have XM or Sirius? Anyhow, had the opportunity to listen in on an interview with Jody Shelley who now works for the Jackets...
Anyhow, it's obviously not the first time a former enforcer has spoken on his former responsibilities as designated pugilist...but, some terrific insight. He also was pretty candid on a variety of topics (i.e. John Scott/Phil the Thrill where in his opinion, Scott did nothing wrong -- because well, John didn't do anything; talking on the ice is what an enforcer like that is SUPPOSED to do). Good interview.

But, yep...the Avs sure can show the Oilers a few things on what it takes to rebuild. And many thought Denver was for what they gave up for Varlamov...well, he's showing his worth now.

I feel the need...
Did you know?
Last time the Detroit Red Wings missed the playoffs:
1. Moogelino was watching the first season of The Simpsons.
2. Black Label's favorite movies: Home Alone, Dances with Wolves, Pretty Woman, Ghost and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were playing in theatres.
3. The Cosby Show was No 1 rated on television.
4. A gallon of gas cost $1.34
5. Mike Babcock was coaching at Red Deer College.
6. Wings entire 4th line of Tomas Jurco, Riley Sheahan and Tomas Tatar hadn't been born yet.
7. It had only been 23 years since domcha's leaves last lifted the cup.
