What's even more surprisingly is that Czech isn't going past this round either.

They were one of the favorites to win it all.

No doubt, but the US looked HORRIBLE in the WC except against Italy (even though they didn't score a goal)

LOL, ESPN just put the WC on Arena. The former US guy, Eric Ronaldo (sp?) is calling him out big time...

BTW, he's a terrible sports reporter. I'm hoping since the US is out they take him out of the studio. Just leave Julie and an ESPN guy in the studio...

Wynalda

Oh and Bruce Arena is retarded. How did he not take Taylor Twellman to Europe? What an idiot.

BTW, I used to play against Twellman in high school.

how is it that we are 5th ranked in the world and get put in a group (out of 8 groups) with 2 teams ranked above us?

uhhh...the world. However, we all know nothing matters until match time. Brazil being the exception.

France is a good example back in 98.

Well, even without that goal the US would have been eliminated. Although you could argue that the entire game could have ended differently.

Yep, even worse though. These teams never play almost never play against each other, but yet they can be ranked on the same playing field?

How funny would it be if Bush ordered troops to Germany to sieze the World Cup.

Oh I think it definitely would have. They go in tied 1-1 meaning they only need one goal for the lead.

Plus, you can tell by the reaction of the team that after the PK went in the US was just deflated.

Completely different game if that call is not made...

We could cite "intelligence" that says the Czechs were planning to do the same, so our move would pre-emptive and totally acceptable.

He's getting ripped on ESPNNews right now and Arena is scheduled to have a post-game news conference.

Should be interesting...

Who cares? The US isn't good in Soccer because our best athletes don't play it and it's not popular here bottomline. Look at the size and speed of some of our players. I'd bet none of them could run a 4.4 40 yard dash. For instance the best athletes in Brazil, Germany & England from the time they are kids until adults only play soccer. Our best athletes play football and basketball. If it was part of our culture and they only played soccer we'd dominate it.

That was hard to see. Did he just bounce that off the crossbar on purpose three times without letting the ball touch the ground?

Shouldnt be an excuse for a country of your size and wealth. There are plenty of kids playing soccer, and there is a good soccer program in the US as well. The US has made huge advances in the past 10 years. You gusy will be cup contenders, its only a matter of time.

yeah, he was volleying the ball, then shot it against the crossbar and continued to volley it.... 3 times! Sick...

It's tough to see with the handheld cam.. but if you have sound you can hear it clank off the bar and see it come back to him.

I think the US is (can) only get better and the number of soccer programs will increase.

FYI, Arena is on and the first thing he said was blame the ref and making them play from behind. Then he finally said they should have had more 2nd half opportunities.

I think Arena is done...his interview was pretty bad. Too much emphasis on the bad PK call for a coach...
