And his whole "touch of gold" aura is based on that (more or less)....

It's no different then Tiger volleying a golf ball on a club then hitting it in mid-air. When you're good, you're good...

Wrong! When will you understand that most people in the country don't give a damn about soccer. They might play it as a kid but that's where it ends. The real athletes move on to basketball and football the rest well they stick with soccer. People who are from the inner city, where most of the best athletes come from, don't play soccer and probably never will. So it doesn't matter how big or how wealthy the counrty is, it will never be on the same pedestal as football, basketball or baseball in this country.

I've seen that Ronaldinho video before...fake or not he is unreal. Just about any video you find online with him is worth watching.

Does anyyyyyyyyyone know of a live webcast of Brazil's game vs Japan today? I love to watch Brazil play - Ronaldinho being one of the reasons.

ummm...you're wrong. Almost all kids that play soccer young move on to baseball. The problem is that we have a shit ton of talent at the high school and college level, but none of them want to further pursue soccer as a career.

Yeah, I've seen a bunch, but not that one before. Crazy. BTW, I thought the whole purpose of the "home video" version of that was to prove it wasn't fake...

Yeah, when a useless idiot like Donovan can make $900k in the MLS, more people will gravitate towards soccer.

Soccer was slow to attract fans in the United States, where such sports as baseball, basketball, and American football were more popular. Today, however, according to FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), the United States has more official soccer players than any other nation in the world - almost 18 million. No other sport crosses so many cultural boundaries, and it no surprise that it is the fastest growing team sport in the United States.

Let me guess - a bunch of black guys running back and forth on a court rubbing all over each other and scoring a couple of hundred points?

Meh... I didn't miss anything since I don't care about professional basketball. Not my kind of game for various reasons. Haven't watched the NBA since the good ole days of the 80's and very very early 90's....

I just read your other posts. What a bunch of BS. "we'd dominate it."

You mean like the U.S. dominated the basketball world championships on their own soil when they finished 6th? Or when they finished 3rd at the Olympics only winning about 60% of their games? That's a little above average at best.

Damn I'm so pissed. Those fuckers put up these little newsflash TVs in the elevators, and when I went out to lunch I caught a glimpse of how it said "the u.s. was eliminated..."

Arena has to go. I think the U.S. should hire a foreign (European) coach like Australia did with Hiddink. Otmar Hitzfeld would be a good candidate.

For real. Fuck stats. I mean, they're wrong 60% of the time anyway... and the other half is just opinion...

Kids in the hood may not say they want to be the next Pele, but there are a lot of kids who do say it... and, as proof by how many play soccer, there seem to be more kids outside of the hood then in...

Our best players didn't play in the 2004 Olympics or the World Championships. People like Shaq and Kobe didn't even play. Check the roster out for the 2008 Olympics the gold will be coming back to the US in 08.

Soooo, you're saying that the "best athletes" lose to a bunch of white Basketball players from eastern Europe who smoke a pack of cigarettes a day?

The reason that soccer is not big here is because U.S. doesn't dominate it. The reason U.S. dominates in other sports is because they put a lot more effort into them. It's not that soccer players here aren't great athletes, it's the fact that everywhere else in the world people put as much effort into soccer as the U.S. does into football/basketball here.

Go to a preseason soccer practice at a D1 school and you'll see what type of training the players go through. Funny thing is, one of our soccer players in College was also one of the top basketball players at the school (he was black too, if that concerns you.) Guess which one he thought was harder?
