IMO you can give red there. It was totally unneccessary and you can easily break someone's ankle going in like that. Plus, it was his 3rd or 4th foul in that half alone.

The first 15 minutes of the second half will probably suck for the U.S. Marcello Lippi most likely chewed up the whole team during the half time break. That, plus getting that red card so early before half time.

I hope I'm wrong...

It reminds me a little of the Juventus vs Werder Bremen champions league games. Booooo Azzurri.

Justified red card ... what was the American thinking? Those doubters ... ask any soccer player what it feels like for a guy to slide into your ankle with his cleats. The Italian guy is lucky that not all his weight was planted on that leg otherwise, his ankle might be broken. The ref had to 'card him to prevent things from getting out of hand.

Kudos to the US for taking it to the Italians. I thought they were going to be dead.

(Aside: what happened to the Czechs? Is Ghana for real? )
