I watched it.

I feel bad for Poland's goalie, he was solid the entire game...well almost.

Well he couldnt do a thing about that last goal. However, a few minutes before he did get very lucky when they hit the crossbar twice. It seems like the refs are just giving out yellow's extremely often this tournament, to the point as to where Blatter has to change the rule again about the two yellows.

I wish the Pole's had tied Germany, but o well what can you do. The Germans are not gonna win the World Cup

shiiiiiit those last 10 mins were intense. once poland went down to 10 men germany just seemed to go into desperation attack mode... so many chances and that double crossbar was nuts!! but oh well, take what ya can get. props to their goalie though he was def man of the match until he let that slip by.

germany's offense is quite potent, it should have been like 3-0 by halftime, but having problems finishing. (we'll see if that problem comes up again.) it was funny to watch everytime they had a near goal they flipped to klinsmann and the german bench and every single time in the background my cousin was flipping out it was hilarious, throwing his arms in the air then throwing his head down in disgust, and the best was when he jumped off the bench and threw his water battle on the ground. classic emotion

will be interesting to see if ecuador wins tomm, bc if they do theyll be tied with germany and possibly ahead on goal differential if they score more than 1. and then germany and ecuador play heads up most likely for the #1 spot in the group

I guess there wasn't much to say about the "bad" German defense this time

Germany should have scored at least 3 or 4 goals. Poland didn't stand a chance.

A little trivia, the only time the German team has won the first 2 games was in '74 and '90, and each time...I'm not gonna say it.

We'll talk about the German defence when they play some teams of their own stature. Maybe even England in the second round

Haha, your cousin was hilarious when they scored. Klinsmann went nuts.

Btw, I have all the world cup games in wmv format if anyone is interested, but they're in German (ARD and ZDF) I would just need to upload them somewhere.

I think they're gonna play Sweden. Either way, Ibrahimovic and Larsson > Owen, Crouch (Rooney)

I think Owen, Rooney >> Ibrahimovic and Larsson, especially versus a huge German defence. England clearly has the better center of the midfield in Gerrard and Lampard over Ljunberg and whoever else plays, to get the passes into the forwards. I'm sure you'd much rather play Sweden than England in the second round, right?

I'm not sure about that. Yes England has a more solid midfield, but Sweden is more attack oriented. If I could pick an opponent, I'd probably pick Sweden, but their attackers > England attackers.

How about we talk after Sweden plays England. Sweden has some good midfielders too (Ljunberg, Wilhelmsson, Allbäck)

Korea can beat both France and Switz, but they'll probably end up with either 6 or 5 points...which is still good enough to advance.

I doubt that Korea will beat both Switzerland and France. They didnt look all that impressive playing an average at best Togo team. I know they made it to the semi-finals four years ago and everything, but I still dont see how they get two wins in the next two matches.

korea just needs one more win to advance right? i dont know if korea will beat both switzerland and france but they need to beat one of them. i agree that korea didnt look that impressive in the togo game, they were playing with no spirit and enthusiasm until kader's goal. afterwards they took the initiative a lot more, but in order to beat european teams they need to be aggressive the whole 90 mins.

hey can you upload the most recent poland game somewhere? i want to cut out the clips of all my cousins reactions and make a little highlight reel to show him how ridiculous he looked haha. lemme know if uploading is easiest or whatever

and in regards to england or sweden in the 2nd round, it doesnt even matter to me, theyre both similar in a lot of aspects. of course i think most would say they'd rather play sweden, especially how they performed against t&t. HOWEVER, i am reserving judgment until we see tomm's matches so i can see if england actually sucks that much or if they just had an off game, and same for sweden.

honestly i dont think so in that group. if they get another win sure it would put them in good favor to advance, but only 1 match has been played. so, even if they win 1 more match, they could have opponents who win 2 in a row also and then they lose on goal differential. but for now their chances are decent. 2 wins puts your foot in the door for the next round, but nothings ever for sure, so cross your fingers they score a bunch and win next game

Anyone know where I can watch the highlights of Saudi Arabia vs. Tunisia? The www.fifaworldcup.com site doesn't have the highlight, instead, it says 'not available in your area.'

Now that the first round of the group stage is over, which teams do you think has a chance to win the Cup this year?

In no particular order, my favorites:

Germany
Argentina
Italy

Others that might do it:
Brazil
England
Spain
Portugal

Another question. After each team plays everyone in their group and the top two teams advance. How are the matchups then determined? I went to wikipedia and it said this:

"The second round, or knockout stage, is a single-elimination round in which teams play each other in one-off matches, with extra time and penalty shootouts used to decide the winner. It begins with the round of 16 (or last 16) in which the winner of each group (from the group stage) plays against the runner-up from another group. This is followed by quarter-finals, semi-finals and a final. The losing semi-finalists contest a third place match."

how do they determine which winner will play which runner up? Is it random or do they apply some sort of system?

Um. Nice shot in the 27th minute of the Trinidad dude writhing on the ground with his hands down his pants. I think he took a ball-blaster from short range.

England needs to improve their finishing ability if they are going to get to the quarter finals.

that sequence for argentina was the best thing ive seen this whole world cup.. probably 7 perfect passes with the last one being a heel kick to an open guy in front of the goal... make sure you check out the highlights because they will def. show it!

anybody use this firefox extension to keep up to date on the tournament?

http://www.mozilla.com/add-ons/jogacompanion/

scores in the statusbar and pop ups when games start, yellow cards, goals scored, etc....and you can customize the look and feel to your favorite team.

if your not watching the Dutch play Ivory Coast, you need to!!!

It started slow but the last 20 mins were pretty fast paced with some very awesome shots on goal by both teams....

try and catch the 2nd half when it starts
