Got my rotors in and recently finished painting them. I used regular duplicolor caliper paint. I didn't do the best job, but i didn't have much time, also doesn't help letting friends mess with them since I now have a few chips of paint off but oh well.

I guess with the zinc coating the duplicolor will hold up even better?!?! I personally, prefer the zinc look. Had black before...plus, I have black wheels so I loved the contrast.

washed my car this weekend and starting to notice some rust on the surface of the rotor..... obviously it went away after driving into the garage, but i thought these things were supposed to not have any rust problems?? Sean can you chime in?

Yes, this is normal. The silver zinc dichromate plating will be removed by the brake pad contact, so the area underneath the pad will be the natural iron after the first few stops. This is inevitable, but as you noticed, it goes away again after you start to drive on them.

The Zinc coating stays on, and thus protects the areas of the hub/disc that normally DON'T get scrubbed off by the pads and stay looking rusty.

Even so, I noticed the rusty haze after washing mine too this weekend...and it's FAR less than the oem's...the oems you could fart near them and they'd look like you'd parked the car for a year.

I installed mine recently too :Toocool:

I noticed a bit of rust as well and was originally scared that the Brakleen spray I used could have done something to the rotors but it went away obviously after driving and haven't seen anything yet.

On a side note that brakleen stuff is super strong. It ate away my 1 year old high temp spray paint coating on the calipers. Ordered Acura decals and a Duplicolor ceramic paint kit so that'll pretty it up soon enough.

Hello everyone,
I apologize for any delayed responses. I sent out all checkout links yesterday and today, and it looks like nobody is receiving the email. There is some type of error in the system, and I am in the middle of working this out as soon as possible. I will continue to try and send emails periodically to see if they go through until we can come up with a solution. If you would like to place your order over the phone with a c.c., please contact me at 855-556-8103. I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding in this.
Thank you,
Sean

Well, it has been probably three weeks that I have had the brakemotive product on my car...and I am still loving it. The braking feel with this setup is worlds better than OEM and I couldn't imagine ever going back. I have honestly had to talk myself out of stock piling rotors and pads from them to last the car's lifetime; and it has been hard since the price is outstanding for the quality of the product.

I saw someone post about the warped rotors a few days ago, IMO its inevitable, castings are going to have some inherent stresses in them from the casting process and that hard to avoid 100% of the time. Luckily Brakemotive seems to be a quality vendor that will right the wrong when someone receives that one rotor that has enough internal stress to cause a problem. With Sean at the helm, I think we can all be confident.

The past few days I have had a very slight squealing of the pads when braking under very light pressure. Its an 'every so often' kind of deal. I am guessing there is just some kind of contaminant between one of the pads and rotors that will eventually work its way out with a little time (maybe some wheel cleaner, tire spray, road debris, etc.).

Anyways, that's my update for all you current/future brakemotive customers...

Did you do the graphite grease on all slides and pad contacts etc!?!? That'll likely get rid of it.

Something like this...
http://files.subtledream.com/forum/brake_grease.jpg
You apply it to anywhere that makes sense that the pads make contact and slide back and forth. Namely, the pins, and if you pull out your brembo pads and look into the orifice in the caliper you'll see these 4 contact areas (2 on top 2 on bottom, 1 for each side, of course). Put some of this stuff on the pad where it'll make contact.

I just used some purple grease I got from advance auto...those little packets they sell for like a dollar. It said something about ceramic and up to 1200 degrees

No squeaks for me yet *fingers crossed*

...my biggest problem was knowing WHERE to grease. Up until last year I didn't know you can take off the caliper in 2 parts to get at the pads...I used to struggle getting the whole thing off!! AND, i used to put the lube on the back of the pads rather than the slides and pins.

Man you're always on top of responses Rockstar, and it sure is appreciated. I see the discussion about your post...and yes I did pins/guides and between the caliper and pad surfaces. I do a thorough job with the graphite grease while not going over board (making sure it doesn't get between the pads and rotors, that could be a little counter productive haha). Tomorrow I'm gonna try some heavier breaking to see if I can clear any contaminants that could be causing it. If not, back to square one, taking this sht back apart and making sure I did a good enough job with the graphite.

Thanks for chiming in !

More detail...

Not sure if you figured the answer to that question, but I think he was referring to anything where you'll see relative movement between the actual pad and the caliper.

I think it should be used between the shims/guides and the pad, the pins (where you have to pull back the rubber dust sleeve to get to; sorry for the lack of better terms), AND between the inside of the caliper and the back of the pad. THat last item you wouldn't expect much relative movement, but any small vibrations between the two could cause some annoying sounds IMO. Could anyone second my claim? It's just my experience and if theres a better explanation I'd be down to learn something as well!

Good brakes for the price, look very clean. I have had them on for a couple of weeks now, was driving the other day and noticed a sound when braking from like 45 and under. Almost like a exhaust slowing down kind of sound. It's not LOUD or anything, but it's there. Could this be from overtightened lug nuts? I did take my wheels off/on past few days. Someone please chime in! Thanks.

...so you're adding to your list of problems to solve, here too, huh bud!!!

It MAY be the sound of the slots as you lightly press the brake pedal it makes this choppy sound but I could see how it'd sound like an exhaust downshift or something. I would guess you didn't overtighten the lugs.

jjcudak, thanks man. Yeah, I'm on this forum WAY too much!

I have had the same problem since the day I put them on. I have an antomatic mind you, but it sounds to me when you brake like youre downshifting and engine braking... Only think i can attribute it to is the slots grabbing the pads. Idk but i still love them. hopefully its not a problem. Im sure that Sean will chime in to answer it!!

@DatDereTL - It seems like the sound that you are hearing, is like a whirring type noise. This would be a typical noise you hear with the drilled and slotted rotors when braking from any speeds.

@Mondo375 - Direct checkout sent!

@85iroc - I have the front and rear drilled and slotted rotors available for $190.00 shipped, or the front and rear drilled and slotted rotors with ceramic pads available for $200.00 shipped until the end of this month as a special.

^^^that was my dilemma...wanted just rotors, no pads, but for 10 bucks...might as well get em!

J.

PS, I wonder if having the slots go the other way is why they do it on other manufacturers...to prevent the whirring sound.

Hi Guys,

Just installed the brake kit couple of days ago. They look great, also I painted the calipers which make them look even better.

But I am getting a light vibration when driving 60+ miles per hour, its getting worse with the speed. Its same kind of vibration I used to get from my last warped rotors, bur much less, of course.

I have read positive feedback on these brakes from members, have you guys done a high speed brake test?
Are you getting same smooth braking at low and high speeds?

I would be glad if I did something wrong, incorrect when installing them, hate the idea the quality is poor. I did use 2 grease mentioned above: http://files.subtledream.com/forum/brake_grease.jpg

Thanks for any advice!
