I too was considering a Cayman S but ultimately decided against it. The Porsche tax for parts- maintenance or modifying, is crazy high. The car was never intended to be a daily, so it's something I could probably stomach, but it's the overall looks that made me step away. I too am not a fan of P-car styling. I love everything they're about, besides their looks. I find their cars don't necessarily age that well (some, not all), and even if new, there are things I really don't like, like the center exhaust on the Cayman. It really bothers me.

The fact they've kept the Carerra the same for the last 50 years, and most other models have the same styling cues is just too much for me. I know P-cars have a crazy huge following and I'm speaking blasphemy to many, but they're just not for me!

Same friend who owns the Cayman said that Porsche is the most profitable car company out there. I forgot by which measure exactly (total? per car sold? maintenance?) but I believe him, he has a financial analyst background.

He still has it though, and loves it. I have always liked their styling. I just have trouble with the thought of owning a 10-year old German car, especially one with the Porsche tax for their service.

He paid $2800 for a brake job, and he just has a base Cayman. Correction by the way, his is a 2008. He got it for $30k with 37k miles on it when it was 3.5 years old.

If I had to go to another car in a higher price bracket than mine, it would be a Cayman. Got a buddy with an 06. Sort of aware of their issues now, but he loves the thing. Each time an M3 or a Cayman blows by me on the track, I die a little inside and come that much closer to ze dark seite.

Pristine examples go for 25K+, but I wouldn't be caught dead paying that much for one .

The Cayman I rode in was the last year of the 3.4L 6 with the PDK transmission. The shifts were fast and the torque was very apparent, I just couldn't fathom on how smooth and composed it was under such heavy braking and acceleration in a rough 15+ year old stadium parking lot.

I originally heard that too, back around 2010 if I remember correctly. I wonder if it's true and how long it has been true. I mean, shit, if you're charging $2800 for a standard brake job, you know that $2400 of it is straight profit, somehow divided between the dealership and Porsche. And labor is generally a pretty standard hourly fee- how much is a brake job? 2.5 hours labor on a bad day?

I've always been told that there's no such thing as a cheap Porsche. You either pay up front for the car or you pay later in repairs/maintenance. It's a wash in the end.

Pristine S2k's are going for $25k in Cali now???? The market must still be super hot for them then.

If that's all you want to pay for one, there will certainly be $12k cars out there.

Things not included with a $12k S2000:
- complete paint coverage
- complete primer coverage
- intact leather interior
- stock wheels without damage
- good condition suspension
- clean title
- maintenance history
- top that doesn't leak

so you mean it still revs to 8k and can be thrown into corners without issue? I think I just found myself a 12k winter beater

Yes. You can probably get an even cheaper one than 12k if you don't mind rebuilt titles.

Could be worse. We have bi-polar weather here. It was high 70s Saturday & in the 30s Sunday. 27* when I left for work this morning. Supposed to warm up through the week. We wore shorts on Christmas day last year.

Yeah, it gets cold here. It doesn't generally last though. Not at that extreme cold, anyway. Still, no summer car for 6 months of the year

The windchill yesterday was -37F in the morning. It was 50F colder outside than it was in my freezer. The temp tomorrow will be 34F for a high so a nearly 70F temperature swing in a matter of 48hrs.

I'd rather live in a warm, crime infested area with no school (I'm already smart AF about stuff), and have no job so I can enjoy the weather. Plus...you can always commit crimes to make money.

Instead. Here I am. Storing my S2000 on stock wheels and stock suspension. Living in constant fear of the temperature. Working for the man. Not commiting any crimes. All for a relatively lower cost of living.

If you call that living.

NP. stock wheel gap is like the Grand Canyon. Because of a lack of reference, one is unable to scale things in relation to human terms.

Jah feel, bro. Jah feel.

I too am running OEM suspension and I've been unable to fathom the scale of the wheel gap until now.

You sir are a gentleman and a scholar.

I would just weld in sheet metal to the front and rear fenders to reduce the gap, and plastidip it all to somewhat match the color of the car. Fuck yeah. Ballin.
