But Sam, if you only drive 500 miles per year, your odds of getting caught without a front plate are like 1 in 46,287.

NSX's are tiny. VERY low to the ground. And the 2017 is only an inch taller or so.

I know the odds are low but I know quite a few people who have got caught with no front plate and the fine is pretty steep. It's just not worth it especially given that everyone has a front plate on, not just me.

Haven't had a front plate on my cars in 10 years ... never had a ticket for it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_...U.S._-_2008.29

The 2007 model year marked the first time the S2000 was offered in more than one trim level in the United States.[11] In addition to the base model, Honda offered a more track-oriented version of the S2000, distinguished by reduced weight, fewer amenities, and an increase in performance. The S2000 Club Racer made its world debut at the New York International Auto Show on 4 April 2007.[12] Changes for the CR included a lower ratio steering rack, revised exhaust system, black lug nuts, darker colored wheels, clear side markers, stiffer suspension and new Bridgestone Potenza RE070 tires that were wider at the rear; 245/40R-17 to 255/40R-17. A revised body kit, composed of a redesigned front lip, and a large spoiler, were wind-tunnel tested and claimed to reduce the overall coefficient of lift by 70–80%. The power folding soft top was removed and replaced with additional chassis bracing topped off with a tonneau cover, while the hard top, optional on other models, became a standard feature on the CR. Honda also revised the shift knob over the base with an exclusive spherical aluminum shift knob that rests 12.6 mm lower for a 6 percent reduction in shift stroke compared to the conventional S2000 cylindrical shift knob (aluminum/leather wrapped). Conversely, the shift load effort increased by 10 percent with the new design.

CR models were only available with yellow and black alcantara interiors. Additionally the CR interior has faux carbon fiber overlays on the center console and radio door and a peak power indicator light on the instrument gauge cluster that flashes when the engine is producing its peak power output. Finally, in an effort to reduce weight and lower the center of gravity, the spare tire was omitted and air conditioning and stereo were offered only as options. Net weight savings without the additional hardtop came to 41 kg (90 lb) relative to the standard model. The engine in the S2000 CR was unchanged from the standard trim.[13]
[14] Shigeru Uehara, the designer of the S2000, stated that the CR was positioned between the Type S and a hypothetical Type R.[15] Honda has never made an official Type R for the S2000.

Production volume of fewer than 2,000 units was expected however the final number produced was 699 for the combined 2008 and 2009 model years. The production numbers were broken down as follows; Apex Blue Pearl: 200 (21 delete models) Rio Yellow Pearl: 140 (20 delete models) Berlina Black: 269 (10 delete models) Grand Prix White: 90 (8 delete models) for a total 699 (668 for 2008, 31 for 2009). Honda continued to offer both the standard and CR versions unchanged for the 2009 model year.

[16] And so it is left up to the owner to create their own Type R for the S2000 via products offered on aisle 9 at PepBoys.

Last I checked it was like $150 or something like that. There are VERY few people here that run no front plate at risk so it stands out quite a lot. Not worth the gamble to me.

A more expensive version of the normal S2000 made because racecar.

NSX's are similar in size to S2000's. But their proportions make the S2000 look like the little sister that maybe got a strong bulk game.

As far as front plates go...I don't have one on my S2000.

I have been hassled 1 or 2 times in 11 years. Total fines paid were like $50.

So my membership cost is $4.54/year.

I once got into an argument with a cop over the front plate. It turned into an argument about whose mustache was stronger. I won because mine is the most powerful mustache in its class.

Needless to say, he had to give me his front plate.

The front license plate ticket itself is not that expensive.. but every time i get one of those... 3 in the past 3 years is that they also get me for front tinted windows now that is the annoying one.

I think i have gotten 2 when the car was parked on the street for tinted window and no front plate.

Cool Story, eh Bro?

Nope. I fact, when I got back in the truck, him and Mom were talking about it.

Which made me do a silent Dr. Evil hand rub about, because my grand plan is that, in (quite) a few years when he needs a car, we'll pick up a s2k for him. He may or may not actually get to drive it.

So no. No puke. I did 'mire the wheels and when I saw the plate I was 99% sure it was yours. Well, that and the driver fit the description I'd heard of "Dennis". I was the jackass returning the cart right in front of you as you were trying to leave.

And yeah, I'm up the road just a bit. I stop by that store because they've got one of the better douchebag craft beer selections in the area.

I got lazy and never installed it when I got the replacements. I found the old ones recently and I remembered I removed them when I bought the car. It looks cleaner without them to me.

You have said hi, not all black people bite See if you had done so, then your son would have checked it out too and maybe even got a ride. That would be extra ammo to use against the wife for the purchase and we would soon be s2k buddies. But no, you were too excited to return the cart and rush home to drink your douchebag craft beer.

Over the past long weekend, I went to the new Area 27 race track with my S2k in Okanagan, BC, Canada. Here's some footage...and a spin, lol. The S2000 has some serious fuel starvation issue....

Spinning out:

Fuel starvation should be cured with a full tank of gas. My Nismo suffers from the same fate, though I've never experienced it myself. Seems to only be an issue on the track and is due to the shape of the gas tank. There is a fix for it for the 370z... But it's kinda pricey. You essentially add a second fuel pump on the other side of the gas tank so when cornering hard and the fuel sloshes over to the other side, there's a secondary pump there to keep fuel moving.

i assume that's why you spun out? Loss of power through the corner?

Yeah, I wasn't sure it was you until later. And as weird as a random IRL introduction would be, it would have been even weirder if it wasn't you. I don't really need the extra ammo against the wife though... She's on board. In fact, it would be her car and the kid could use it when needed. (i.e. tough shit, you get the truck now ) Time is the factor. Probably have at least 8 years until we need to think about it and I can't justify another car in the interim.

Spot on about the DB craft beer though.

It was ok for the first session when I had full tank of gas, and when I was going a bit slower because I was new to the track. Then in the second session, after a couple laps, fuel starvation became an issue. Anything less than 85% full would have that problem unfortunately. Yea, my friend also has a S2k and he added a fuel surge tank that can hold 1L of gas to solve this fuel starvation issue. And yup, it's not cheap....lol. I plan on getting some better tires than what I have right now so it will only get worse if I go on another track day.

I spun out in my 3rd session. I was stupid. It was the first lap of that session in the second corner after the car was sitting in the pit for an hour. That means the tires are still cold. And before going to the track day, I watched another video of some dude driving a S2k entering that corner at 160km/h. So I was like, why am I entering it at 120km/h only like I was doing for the previous laps. So I decided to try going in a bit faster at 140km/h. Bad mistake..... Long story short, it turns out the speedo of the S2k in that video was off by about 20% due to the different final drive gear and tire ratio.

Yup, lesson learnt.
