Saturday - July 26th meet

Hey all - since Dan will be in town this upcoming weekend, lets have a meet.

I will provide everything needed, unless someone wants to pitch in for some extras. I will have burgers/buns and some chips. If anyone wanted to be in charge of chips, or some potato salad or something - we should be good.

oh - and bring something to drink too.

When: Saturday, July 26th - Noon until ??

Where: 2945 114th Ln NW, Coon Rapids MN 55433

I've got the cul-de-sac, so there is plenty of parking. Depending on how many people we get, we can decide to go on a drive, or just hang out and work on the cars - up to you guys.

So who thinks they are going to be able to make it?

I would love to go get it tonight so that I can set the desk up and be able to get my computer off the kitchen counter.

If you are available tonight, I would be totally down with meeting you kids down at Ikea, maybe Jermaine could show up too and we could have an Ikea meet!

Also, about XP64, I am actually going to go with Vista since I have 4GB of RAM and maybe all those annoying boxes will help keep his GF from totally hosing up his machine. There is always hoping, right?

Hey Glow, if you're just sitting around, I can run to the house and we can go any time except between 3 and 4.

Unfortunately I am just sitting around - but it's at work. I only have Wednesdays off.

Let me talk to the lady and see what our plans are. We were going to head to Costco tonight, but maybe we can just push it off for tomorrow depending on what she wants to do for dinner I guess.

As for the Vista thing, I think the only version that I would be interested in is the Ultimate. I think I could still use the 32 bit version with 8 gig RAM though.

I've though about just buying it (I can get the system builders version for like $100) Only problem with that is I've heard that you can only activate it once. I'm not sure if that means that you can only activate it on one machine - or if that means the next time I change my system and it wants me to reactivate it, I'm screwed.

So with that hanging over my head - I've chosen to avoid Vista all together at the moment. I've thought about just getting a full version off Craigslist too. Lots of people selling it for pretty cheap there.

Cool, keep me posted. If you can make it tonight, that would be great since I have the machine shut off now anyway, and I would like to move it before getting to work on it again. I have to have the build complete by Thursday so that I can package it up and bring it down to my brother's place this coming weekend.

I'm guessing the carPC case? Either that or maybe we can built him a wooden cowl hood for his car. That would <wood> be hot.

The wife has one of those buy-some-shit-you-dont-need parties to goto tonight, so it looks like I'm free.

I'll give you a couple of options, and let you decide. Since I won't get home from work until after 5pm, I think we should at least wait until like 7pm before attempting to go there. If we go any sooner, traffic is going to be a bear.

Otherwise we can do it Wednesday morning/afternoon. I have the whole day free, so we could do it whenever. Let me know

Works.

Call me when you are ready to roll and I will give you my address, but 6 or 6:30 is really an ok time for traffic, so if you want to come before 7, let me know. If you want to just meet at Ikea, let me know.

I'll probably have to just meet you at Ikea. Me and directions = Fail. I'd be afraid I'd never find your place.

But... go ahead and give me your addy anyways. If it looks easy enough, I might just swing by and grab you so that we can roll together instead of having 2 cars.

Plus you can be my navigator... lol

Hey Jermaine... headed up to Ikea. Wanna come grab some meatballs and mashed potatoes with us? lol

If you're around, give us a call. Depending on Josh's plans, you could always show us a good spot for a beer.

So I've been thinking of an idea, and I decided to throw it out to you all. This could be either just a meet, or it could be part of an "elite-mega-meet". or, it could suck and it not happen.

I would have to do some looking at a map and some old paperwork to get all of the exact details, so this is more of a feeler.

Seeing as you all like to go for drives, and I used to be a trainer for casinos - which sometimes required me to drive within the quad state area (which is why I bought the Acura in the first place)

Would any of you be interested in going for a drive to a national forest in Wisconson? I cannot remember exactly where it is, but I do remember it was like a 4-5 hour drive to get there. But - this was seriously the coolest place I have ever driven. I actually had just bought the car like 2 weeks before I took this trip. The roads are windy, and it's nice and cool because it's essentially a rainforest. Its one of those roads that is like a tunnel through trees. There are places to pull off the road every few hundred feet because the trees are so close to the road, you could not pull off if you had a flat. And the trees are also 100+ feet tall, and they kind of grow into each other at the top - so you are literally in a tunnel of trees.

So this might not work for 20 guys to go driving, and I would say the only way that it would really work is to find a hotel or stay at the casino (I forget which one I was going to when I found this). It would essentially be a weekend drive per say.

Anyone interested, or is it pretty tough for everyone to commit to 2 days of being out of town? Just a thought - If we don't do it, I may take a long weekend with the wife and do it myself then. If anyone is actually interested, I can find some details and destinations - then we can mapquest it to find out exactly how long of a trip this is.

No problem. I did a little search last night and it looks like there are only 2 forests in WI, and I'm pretty sure it's the closer one. So I will get the details and such, but it only looks like a 2-3 hour drive instead.

Last time I went, I had 2 casino's that I went to, so I probably took the roundabout way to get there.

$20 - GEforce 7100 Dual monitor (1 DVI, 1 VGA - can run both though), 128 DDR2, Vista and DX10 capable. PCI express (I'm sure you need this rather than AGP)

This for that machine your working on? I can get it overnighted for tomorrow for $21, or standard shipping is $7 (usually 3-day)

Since you need it ASAP, I would avoid shipping and get one of these:

$55 - choice #2
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/nVidi...oductDetail.do

Or cheaper yet if they stock them - might want to call ahead

$40 - Choice #3, but the cheapest out of pocket
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0287926

$48 - Choice #1 if you want to deal with a $20 rebate making it $28 and the cheapest yet best video card
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0286321

All of these you should be able to just run and pick up today rather than having me order one and have it shipped. Shipping in this case is going to be a deal breaker for cheap cards since the shipping will be more than the card. You'll have to find your own CC, but Microcenter is in the Minneapolis area too. Check the website for directions - it's pretty close for you.

Okay so for this saturday at Glow's its gonna be the usuals. And it sounds like RTL might be there. So anybody else coming? By the usuals I mean, Josh, Jorge, Jermain, (<wtf with the J's) Me when I'm awake, and Razzi when he feels like it. So any of you new guys gonna come again? And ABC you still have to come to a meet.

Saturday - July 26th meet

Okay for the big Meet were trying to have I'm just going off my calender and it looks like I'm pretty much open anyday until the end of august when I move in to my dorm. But I picked out August 16th its on a Saturday. So for this big meet I say we meet at a park(don't know which one yet) at about 9am or 10am. Then we grill and showoff everybodys cars take some pictures. And in the afternoon whenever we get bored lets say 4pm we can then go for a drive(again Don't know where too yet) and drive somewhere take some mean pictures and then head back home. Sound good to you guys?

So I say Saturday - August 16th Big Ol' MN meet. I'll try to even get some Wisconsin guys in. Tell me what you guys think. We don't need to know exactly what we are doing yet, for now lets just pick a date.

August 16th would work for me. Actually any time will work for me as long as I have a little bit of notice.

My only opinion is that a meet at 9am may be a little early. Unless we're planning on a pancake breakfast meet, I don't envision myself getting there until 11 or noon.

oooh.... I see. Is your brother really having a baby? or is the baby your new VESPA!!! We caught you red handed.

So how exactly does one transport a scooter anyhow? can't really see you strapping it in your trunk. Don't know how giving the wife the scooter keys would turn out in the end either. "Meet ya back home honey.... Vroooom"

Hopefully, it will not come down to me riding it all the way back here from STL, that would take about 97 hours since that thing maxes out at 40. And no, it is not a Vespa, those are WAAAAYYY too overpriced for my cheap ass. It's a Yamaha Zuma, and I was planning on a little dis-assembly and putting it in the trunk, but we shall see how that goes.

Worst case scenario is that I have to ride it back, but like I said, I would have to take Monday off work if that were the case...

Where: Most likely a park in the metro area TBD still. And then a drive somewhere like Wisconsin or Taylors Falls, somewhere with windy roads.

What: Meet at a park. Take some pictures and grill. Showoff your car. Then go for a drive, and take some more pictures.
