I had a thule rack on my civic and have a yakima rack on my TL right now. If installed properly and with a proper sized fairing(that spoiler thing on the front) then they shouldnt make noticeable noise. You can usually find some nice used racks on craiglist and just go buy new clips for around $60-70 from eriks bike shop, cheapest locally and usually have good stock on stuff. Otherwise brand new with everything, youre looking at about $500 if youre planning to carry snow boards.

whats up mid west guys, i was back home in minnesota visiting and man i didnt see one single tl. Do you guys have a large group of enthusiast?
Welcome. Actually there are quite a few. Some of us park our rides for the winter. Most of us are daily drivers. We just put on winter shoes and put away our nice summer wheels. You are welcome to come to our meets if you are around.

Yea thats what i kind of figured. Unfortunately i was only home to visit for Christmas. I still have my rims on since we dont have snow down here in TN. So maybe some of you guys saw me passing through. Ill be back up north again probably later in the new year and i can stop by for a meet then.
I like turtles
I guess more like $600-700, I just check on thules site. yakima site is not working right now for me but it should be around the same. I got most of my stuff used, probably only spent around $400 for everything, locks, fairing, bike trays and snow board attachments. I highly recommend locks since they are pretty easy to take off without them.
Happy new year everyone. Well the M5 is finally back in my possession after spending the month of December at the dealer. I got a call Monday about 3pm telling me they replaced the O2 sensor but now the battery is dead so they recommend a new one for $500. With the way the weather has been this winter so far I don't want to deal with a dead battery on the side of the road so I have them replace that too. I picked the car up Tuesday morning total cost was $1000 which the warranty covered $430. I can hear the engine sounds different now with the new adjusters but it is nice to have it back. I added it up and with the accident and the time at the dealer the car was out of service for 1/4 of 2013 and the mileage shows 2012 I drove 14K miles, 2013 I drove 8900.

WTF? A whole month for an O2 sensor and $500 for a new battery? Is this normal BMW service? even Hyundai service will get you in and out within a day or so. Your battery probably wasnt even dead too, just probably needed a full overnight charge because they havent started the car in over a month maybe. Batteries just dont die overnight. My battery in my old civic that sat in the impound for almost a year was still perfectly good after giving it a full charge after getting it back. Ive heard a few horror stories about broken parts replacement price tags from a few friends back then that owned BMWs, one of the main reason why i didnt pick one up when I had the chance, but that is just ridiculous for a battery and an O2 sensor which probably just needed a good cleaning too.
12/2 dropped off car for appointment got a 328i xdrive loaner
12/3 they still haven't looked at it
12/4 they still haven't looked at it
12/5 they still haven't looked at it
12/6 get a phone call, on my work phone after I already left for the day, saying they looked at it and think I have two bad VANOS adjustment units which are $2,800 each and the warranty company is sending an adjuster out Monday or Tuesday and they need documentation that I have been doing routine maintenance.
12/7-12/8 weekend no work done
12/9 I get the above phone call that they need the documentation and I drive down to Bloomington on my lunch break and stand around for about 15-20 minutes waiting for my SA to acknowledge me and make copies of my records.
12/9 no word
12/10 get a call right before I leave work the warranty company has approved the repair and parts are being ordered.
12/11 no word
12/12 get a call they sold the loaner car I have and want it back I am in Washington DC at this time and the car is at my parents house.
12/13 BMW sends someone to my parents house to get the car and give me a brand new BMW X1 in exchange.
12/14-12/15 weekend no work done
12/16-12/19 no word
12/20 3pm I get a call the car is finished and I can pick it up. So I fight early rush hour traffic from my work in St Paul down to Motorwerks in Bloomington. I give them the loaner back pay my $100 deductible on the $7,100 repair bill and depart. I start heading home north on 35W and I get a Service Engine Soon light before I even make it to Highway 62. So I turn the car around and head back to the dealer find my SA and he doesn't look to happy to see me again but they take the car and run a scan and it say it is a bad O2 sensor. So I have a quick chat with my SA and a tech and we decide that the car should stay there and they'll look into it as I just had the O2 sensor replaced back in august so it could be bad cats. Luckily they hadn't check my loaner out so I kept the same X1 and sat in rush hour traffic for 1.5 hours to get home.
12/21-12/22 weekend no work done
12/23 I call them for an update get a call back they haven't looked at it yet.
12/24-12/25 Christmas no work done
12/26 Get a phone call bad Bank 2 O2 sensor need to order parts.
12/27 no word
12/28-12/29 weekend no work done
12/30 Get a phone call at 3 pm just as I am getting home. The car is done they recommend a new battery and can I pick it up today? I reply no I am not going down there during rush hour and yes replace the battery.
12/31 went to dealer on lunch break returned loaner car and paid the 100 deductible for the O2 sensor and paid for $249 for the battery and $250 for installation.

That's why I love my TL. There are far and few things that I can't work on my car. I think $500.00 for a battery is highway robbery. A Optima Battery Red top is $190.00. That's a top rated battery. I can get two Red Tops for that price. I am glad you got it back before they charge you more money.

I am not sure how many of you remember/ heard of Ken ( Razzi ), he created this thread. His family on his facebook announced that he had passed away.

Hey guys, came back to see if this had been posted. I checked him out on LinkedIn and apparently he was working in Minneapolis at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. Must have been visiting Chicago.
The article I read made it sound like he dropped his phone on the ice and he went after it, then his friends went after him when the ice broke.
It's messed up, he was just a kid. It's weird reading headlines calling him "St Paul man", I still think of him as that scrawny 17 yr old kid that Dan and I met over at FoodMart in St Paul.

140,000 miles young
I came to also pay my condolences. Ken was such a genuine, kindhearted kid. I always will remember him for that. I am practically sick over this because I happen to be in Chicago right now and heard about someone falling in the river...I just couldn't fathom it would be someone I knew and cared about.
Thank you for telling me, Josh.
My best wishes thoughts and prayers are out to Ken's family and that of his girlfriend. Such a tragedy
