Friday night I was over at Jorge's trying to fix my car, the sway bar came loose and was making an immense clunking sound.

 

Just ordered the hardware to make a hackintosh for E, this thing is going to be a SCREAMER!

8GB RAM, quad core 3.0GHz processor, 2x1 TB HD, dual 24" monitors, smokin video card, all running Mac Snow Leopard. This thing is going to absolutely scream!

It's too bad that I won't get to play with it until the end of the month when I get back.

 

It'll be interesting to see how much this helps out when you get it dyno'd! Better be careful running that in cold temps.....could run the risk of freezing the engine up Now that would be funny to see a car that just got done running and a race and the engine had ice build up on it lol

Hey Josh - you know of anyone that might be interested in an 8gb Sandisk SDHC card? I bought 3 of the high speed ones (30mb/s), and decided I really only need 1 (2 max)

These are usually $80+, but I'm just looking to get like $50 since I bought them in a 3-pack.

This is probably best for DSLR people, or I guess someone that transfers a lot of data and wants a high speed card. For your average P&S camera this will probably be more than overkill.

 

Shit, I would be taking them off your hands if it weren't for me leaving for India in a couple of hours. Check with Matt in the meantime.

If you can't unload them before I get back, I am interested. I am tired of trying to take a series of shots and being held up by the memory card.

You could always do what I'm doing... I have probably the same seagate 1.5 sitting on my desk unopened. Once windows 7 comes out - I'm putting in the 1.5 plus one of the new ones I just picked up.

They are internals. It would not matter if you have a Mac - although not being familiar with them, I'm not sure what type of arrangement there is for adding onto the systems. On normal PC's, there is usually a minimum of 3-4 additional slots for whatever. Mac's are a little more compact, therefore they might not have the additional slots.

Where's Josh when we need him? Sure hope they have the innerwebz in India (lol.. probably better than what we've got)

I was sleeping, I'm literally halfway around the world from you guys, so the timing is WAY off.

The drive should work on the Mac, if you have space. I am building a hackintosh and just bought 2 1TB drives for it, maybe a couple more and a RAID configuration?

As for internet quality here, it's not bad, but not great. Of course, I'm spoiled by the internet I have at home that is just about as fast as Comcast offers. The thing that sucks is the periodic power outages and loss of network.

There are some interesting things on the cellphone side, as well as healthcare. After being here I KNOW we are getting ripped off in both areas. I just paid 19 Rupees for the medication I paid $100 for in the states. For those of you looking for your currency converters, that's about $0.40. Yup, that's a hell of a discount. For cellphones, it costs about $0.10 a minute to call from here to the US. If I turn on the iPhone and make a call, I'm looking at $2.50 a minute if not more.

 

Cost of living is what you have to look at before you really compare. You pay more but you make more.

 

Anybody got a shop they recommend for the UR Pulley install. I attempted doing it this weekend and decided it's a job to leave to a shop! What a PITA!!! I couldn't get the damn bolt to come loose on the crank shaft!! I was bending a 25" breaker bar!!!! I'm pretty irritated!!!

 

Oh and my car is in for routine service today and the dealership said they wouldn't install it for me either.

 

I'm going to talk with my mechanic friend bob who installed mine... In the time it took me to find some stuff to hold my hood open he had the whole thing installed and put back together

I'm not 100% sure what it was that caught their attention. I used Bittorrent to download Adobe CS4 - since the CS3 I have doesn't support my camera's RAW files for editing.

I did this on Sunday, and I got an e-mail about it this morning. I am careful not to seed after my install, but my guess is that there is a bot that randomly searches for applications - and they searched for CS4 and my PC waved it's little hand and said "Hey - look at me - I have it for you to download" before I could turn off file sharing.

Keeping my fingers crossed this is just a warning. The sad thing is that I am more worried about Comcast limiting my internet than I am being caught for pirating software. I know that is completely ass-backwards of an attitude to have, but that's how i feel. lol

 

When I worked for a company similar to Comcast - we had to send these out, as written warnings. I wouldnt get caught again, though.

 

My thoughts exactly. I figure this is probably just a warning - but it's an official warning (complete with tracking number) - so if I continue to get caught, they will continue to build a case of repeat behavior (and repeat restitution payments)

 

a torrent is sending data out the minute you start downloading it. Seeding just means that you are able to send ALL of the data in the torrent. But as soon as you have the first piece of it, that piece will be sent out to others. Unless you're running an IP spoofer and a very good outbound firewall, you're visible to corporate snoopers.

 

I'm not sure on the law here and I think it might be a good idea for you to consult a lawyer, but I wonder if downloading the software is enough to show copyright infringement, or if you have to actually install the software? With movies and music, as soon as you have it you can use it, but with software you have to install it, so you might have some leeway there.

But, like I said, you might want to talk to a lawyer...

I suggest if you are downloading anything TORRENT related you encrypt your data. Here's a how to.

I currently use "utorrent" and it does not use resources. Do this and they will never(or at least now) be able to tell what kind of stuff you are downloading.

Yep basically tells me what you are downloading is not encrypted. Turn on encryption and you'll be fine and they won't be able to see what you are downloading. I'd reply to the email - my apologies all files have been deleted off my harddrive. Ask a mod to edit your address out as well!

 

How's he feel about doing it at his shop? I'll pay someone to go through the PITA that it is than for me to try it again.

 

It isn't his shop, but my friends. It's fairly ghetto, but next time i see him I'll talk about his price to do someone elses
