Picked up my PS4 on Thursday for $290, no tax, free shipping. Should arrive next week. Got GTA5 for $25 and 15 months of PS Plus for the price of 12...seemed like the best deals going. The Uncharted bundle I got comes with a physical disk, so it should be easier to sell since I don't really feel like playing them again. No just to beat GoW:A and unload the PS3.
The Order is $10 on the PSN store today. You can buy it through Amazon and use code L1L2R1R2 to get $1 off. Arkham Knight $20 I think at Gamestop. And a DS4 controller with a month of PS NOW (PS3 game rental) for $40.
We'll likely get details on the upgraded PlayStation Neo
Sony's upcoming PlayStation event, where it's expected to unveil its upgraded PlayStation 4 console, is set for September 7th, according to invites sent out this afternoon. The event will be held at the PlayStation Theatre in New York City at 3PM ET. The company is being elusive about the details, saying only that it will "share details about the PlayStation business." It's unclear if Sony will announce a release date or price for the new console.
The new device, referred to internally as "Neo" in reports about its development, is said to support 4K games and other media. The Neo is also expected to bring a sizable boost in processing power, which will make it a more viable machine for virtual reality. Sony is launching its PlayStation-only VR headset in October, while the new PlayStation console may be released some time in 2017. Microsoft has plans for an upgraded console as well to complement its recently released Xbox One S console, a slimmed down version of the standard Xbox One. Microsoft's new device is known internally as Project Scorpio, and it's slated for a 2017 release.
Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Andrew House confirmed the 4K PS4 upgrade in an interview with the Financial Times back in June. "We will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle," House said. To reassure owners of the current console, he added, "All games will support the standard PS4, and we anticipate all or a very large majority of games will also support the high-end PS4."
Bethesda has to keep pushing back mod support for ps4. Mod support has been released for fallout and talks about the revamped skyrim and future elder scrolls having mods but doesn't look bright for the Sony crowd.
Word as of late no one is getting any blame but months ago before the game released mod support for even PC Bethesda said Microsoft was working with them diligently while they still hadn't heard from anyone at Sony.
Flash back to Skyrim's Dawnguard taking I believe a year long delay just to hit PS3 while Xbox 360 players were already enjoying it.
Last we did hear from Bethesda was sound files weren't working with Sony and the allowed space to download was extremely small compared to what microsoft was willing to allow.
Is iy a strained relationship are is it in yhe software and Sony cant even figure it out or maybe they just cant be bothered.
if I recall correctly, I think it was Digital Trends that did a review on the XBox One S, they said as a console, having 4k is kinda meh for gamers... but for the videophile, they may be impressed
Its going to take a while before the games most of us typically play and love will see any VR support.
Ive seen Bethesda play with VR a bit but I havent seen really anyone else. Bethesda has a VR booth at E3 for Fallout 4.
My worry is that the technology simply wont be up to snuff with how we currently play games with controllers. Right now gaming is at the point where milliseconds are the difference between winning and losing. I dont see a $400 VR set getting close to keeping up with that. The company I work for currently has be stationed in Magic Mountain where they have a new VR ride they spend a boat load of money on. The VR is frankly shit. I think VR has a years to go before it can really be utilized on the type of games we play like Battlefield, COD, Destiny, Fallout, Forza etc etc.
Sony to Sell Updated Model of Standard PlayStation 4
Japanese tech company to introduce a standard and high-end version of the console next month
Aug. 21, 2016
TOKYO— Sony Corp. plans to introduce a new PlayStation 4 standard model alongside a high-end version next month, people familiar with the matter said, in an effort to maintain demand for the best-selling videogame console.
With the release of the two models, Sony hopes to attract hard-core fans and more casual users to its videogame platform, analysts said. The company has been trying to build a community of users so that it can earn consistent revenue from subscriptions and software downloads.
Sony has said that it would hold a news conference at the PlayStation Theater in New York on Sept. 7. A Sony spokesman said the company would talk about the PlayStation 4 business at the news conference.
Sony said in June that it planned to introduce a high-end version of PlayStation 4 with enhanced graphics capabilities, but it hasn’t publicly discussed plans to refresh its standard model.
Macquarie Securities analyst Damian Thong said that he believed the new standard model would be slimmer and less expensive than the current $350 device. He said it would mark a shift in strategy for Sony because the company previously stuck to releasing one console at a time and tried to sustain demand with regular price cuts.
Ahead of the September news conference, Sony has cut production of PlayStation 4 to adjust inventory, people familiar with the matter said. Several major e-commerce websites in Japan, including Sony’s own e-commerce site, said the PlayStation 4 was out of stock.
PlayStation 4 sales have been weaker in Japan than in the U.S. Data from videogame magazine publisher Famitsu showed sales of the console in Japan have been declining slightly in recent weeks. Nevertheless, stocks of the device are likely to run out as the company limits production.
Hideki Yasuda, an analyst at Ace Research Institute, said the soon-to-be unveiled PlayStation 4 consoles are part of a larger push to accelerate the business that includes the October introduction of virtual-reality headset PlayStation VR. Sony has been trying to lure a wider audience to its PlayStation network by adding nongame content, such as the PlayStation Vue cloud-based TV streaming service.
Thinner, rounder, less glossy PS4 Slim set to appear at Sony's upcoming PS4 event.
8/22/2016
Sony will have not one, but two consoles on show at its upcoming PlayStation Meeting event on September 7 -- and the first appears to have leaked online. A thinner, rounder PlayStation 4 Slim was spotted for sale on classified listings site Gumtree (now removed) via local retailer, which claimed it was due for release in three weeks. Twitter user shortman82 has since purchased the unit, unboxed it, and slapped a load of photos online.
The purported PS4 Slim looks considerably thinner than the original PS4, which was already a small console. The same cleaved-parallelepiped aesthetic remains, but the corners have been rounded off, while the glossy plastic section that covered the hard drive on the original PS4 has been removed entirely. While that's good for fans of fingerprint-free gadgets, it does raise questions as to whether the hard drive will be replaceable in the PS4 Slim, particularly as the listed model (CUH-2016A) only sports 500GB of storage.
Sony has typically removed features from its consoles to make them cheaper to manufacture and thus cheaper to sell to consumers (remember all the media card slots on the original PlayStation 3?), so such a move wouldn't be unprecedented.
Elsewhere, it appears the capacitive power and eject buttons have been replaced with physical ones, while Sony has also removed the dedicated optical audio output on the rear. Ethernet and HDMI remain, along with the lesser-used camera port from the original PS4.
While there's a slim chance (pun very much intended) that the pictures of the new PS4 are fake, the leak ties up with a recent report from the Wall Street Journal. The publication says sources "familiar with the matter" claim Sony will introduce two consoles at its PlayStation Meeting event in September: the PS4 Slim and the highly anticipated PlayStation "4K" Neo. Sony confirmed the existence of the PS4 Neo in June, but has yet to detail its specifications. Several sources claim that it has a faster CPU, GPU, and memory, which will allow it to play certain games in 4K resolution.
PS Plus is increasing to $60 per year in September. Man fuck that shit. Glad I don't really online game and the free games suck ass. I use a USB drive to backup games anyways.
I'm confused. So there will be a PS4 Slim and a PS4 Large? What would the Large include? How does PS VR fit into this?
I'm thinking about finally getting PS4 this Christmas, and this is all very confusing.
there will be three versions of the PS4. the Original, the Slim, and the Neo.
-the Original is the sleek angular version, which we're all proud to display on our TV stands. Will be the cheapest, because OLD.
-the Slim is the one pictured here. smaller, rounded off version. mid-priced, because new and slim.
-the Neo is the one with VR capabilities. Expensive, because VR
of course, this is my interpretation of it. we can look back at PS history and see that they have ALWAYS released a slim version with no notable power increases in chips and memory. because as time goes on, chips get smaller and cheaper.

I think any of the PS4s should be compatible with PS VR. They said in their press release that the PS VR would be immediately compatible with all 46 million PS4s already sold. I can't imagine the slim having lower specs than the original PS4.
With the Slim and VR coming out, it may be time for me to retire my PS3s...

No no, there is a new ps4 coming out code named "neo"

It can play backwards but the slim can't play VR
People are demoing PS VR on existing PS4 consoles. Neither the PS4 Neo nor Slim is out yet, so clearly the PS VR can run on existing PS4 consoles.
The Slim should be a hardware shrink of the original console and will replace the original console, which has already stopped production. Therefore if the PS4 can run PS VR, so can the PS4 Slim. Sony is not running 3 tiers of PS4s. The Slim will be the standard model PS4.
