What do people think Neo will do that Slim can't? Seems like Slim will have a small HD. But they also say that the Neo will provide higher definition games. What does that mean? 4K?

I think the PS4 Neo is meant to support 4K but the games are all supposed to be compatible. If it is 4K compatible, it will run at full resolution on the PS4 Neo only.

With the Slim and VR coming out, it may be time for me to retire my PS3s...
I'm soooooo glad I didn't retire my PS3. Granted I'd prefer using my PS4 because it's so much better when operating with the quick wake up and play feature and suspending games to watch Netflix. But the library of the PS3 is so vast and full of quality. Last week I bought Demon's Souls after beating and loving Bloodborne. Plus if you're a music game player, the Rock Band library is still superior to what can be obtained in RB4 as far as exports. Plus Guitar Hero Live is kind of meh IMO.

The Slim should be a hardware shrink of the original console and will replace the original console, which has already stopped production. Therefore if the PS4 can run PS VR, so can the PS4 Slim. Sony is not running 3 tiers of PS4s. The Slim will be the standard model PS4.

PS VR and PS4 Neo are two different products.
Neo is not Slim tho...
which I was trying to get at...

I have a huge library of games I have picked up over the years for cheap that I have given up ever being able to play.

Pretty much the only things I do with my PS3 now is watch youtube/amazon, watch dvds and blurays, or play Need for Speed Hot Pursuit since I have a steering wheel setup. That PS VR driving demo really sold me. I hope they release a PS VR compatible Hot Pursuit type game.

I messed with my sister and her husband's HTC Vive setup for about two hours. And while it was cool, I like the simplicity of the PS VR. I don't have to worry about building a high-end computer and figuring out how to put it in my theater room.

The NEO might run VR better than the standard/slim PS4, but I doubt it will be a requirement in order to use VR. If the PS VR requires a mandatory upgrade to PS4 Neo just to use it, the product will flop, guaranteed.

we wont know until Sept. 7th
but this is my guess
the Neo is aimed at the hardcore gamer(VR), while the slim is for the casual.

remember, this is the last console generation, and we're moving into PC incremental upgrades...like cell phones

Sounds like I should just get the Slim. The only games I play are Gran Turismo, Metal Gear, and occasionally some fighting games.

Think so. I think the big diff is HDR on the Pro which is optimal for 4k TV's but does apparently enhance 1080p too.

HDR for even the original coming in a FW update. YouTube and Netflix will update the Pro apps supporting 4k and HDR.

Nah plenty don't have it. I'm more surprised when people have one. I know mostly PC gamers or MSers. Someone get one and get Bloodborne so we can PvP mofoers.

Same here, haven't had a ton of time for it recently. Need to pick one up before GT7 comes out.

Sony announces PlayStation 4 Pro with 4K HDR gaming for $399
Out on November 10th

Sony has officially unveiled the next big iteration of the PlayStation 4. The console — codenamed Neo, which the company discussed in brief just ahead of E3 in June — upgrades the three-year-old PS4 hardware with a faster processor, better graphics, and support for 4K resolution. It launches November 10th, and it will cost $399. It’s intended to be sold alongside the base PS4 instead of replacing it, and new games will still be playable on the older hardware. The existence of Pro, formerly called Neo, was first reported on back in March.

The PS4 Pro can output 4K and HDR video, which is powered by an upgraded GPU. Sony also boosted the clock rate for the new PS4 Pro. It will also come with a 1TB hard drive. "PS4 Pro is not intended to blur the line between console generations," Mark Cerny, the chief architect for the PS4, said on stage. "Instead, the vision is to take the PS4 experience to extraordinary new levels."

On stage, Cerny showed off actual 4K game footage from games like Spider-Man and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, not just 4K video running through the PS4 Pro. Cerny noted that the PS4 Pro was able to pull new detail out of the scenes from these games, even though they were developed for the original PS4. But he went on to say that select PS4 games will have improved graphics to take full advantage of the the PS4 Pro. Titles like Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare: Remastered will be able to support PS4 Pro's extra capabilities out of the box on day one, while Battlefield 1 and FIFA 16 will be supported later this year, and Mass Effect: Andromeda gaining support next year.

PS4 Pro will also improve the PlayStation VR experience, according to Cerny. Developers will be able to increase the crispness of scenes, up the frame rate, and more. Netflix and YouTube are also developing new apps specifically for the PS4 Pro.

While this kind of mid-cycle upgrade isn’t typical for game consoles, Sony isn’t the only one beefing up its hardware. At E3 this year, Microsoft unveiled a new version of the Xbox One codenamed Project Scorpio, which will similarly add 4K support and more power, while also adding support for virtual reality games as well (though what VR headset the console will work with is still unclear). Microsoft is expected to launch Scorpio in fall 2017.

great price - I was thinking the "Pro" model would be priced much higher, like 599 or 699.

I heard the PS4 Pro doesn't have 4K Blu-Ray movie playback capability though, while the new Xbox does. Leave it to Sony to leave something out.

You probably need a HDR capable TV as well.

Its a damn shame you can't HDR without having to get 4K.

That is correct. So I guess you're just paying for 500GB more, upscaled graphics, more powerful GPU. Thought the whole point was to adopt 4k movies as well. I mean Sony is a major movie studio

I think once I finally upgrade to UHD TV, I'd get an XBox One S since it already has 2 TB and a UHD 4K Blu Ray player. Then I can get exclusives from both sides of the river. And I think my gf wants a Nintendo since she loves Mario.

Fuuuuuuck. Sony is messing up denying mods on Fallout 4 and the upcoming Skyrim release.

This Hulk made a great point about it

Being an huge Fallout fan I watched his unfold from the start.

Preface. Bethesda and Sony dont have the best relationship. Back in the Skyrim days Dawnguard released for Xbox a whole year earlier because of software issues the PS3 had.

Fast forward to a few months ago right after Fallout 4 released. Bethesda announced they will be bringing mods to consoles via their bethesda.net site. They would be making a mods tab in the fallout menu when you can access b.net through your internet subscription and download mods to your console similar to PC. They said at this point it is just an idea and while Microsoft has shown interest Sony has yet to respond.

From there I saw a huge red flag.

Little later before GECK went into beta for PC Bethesda announced mod support was going well. They gave an estimated time period for Xbox and said PlayStation would be a month later. This just brough up the whole Dawnguard fiasco and I then readied myself for way more than a month.

Mods released on Xbox One and all went well. Microsoft gave players 2GB of space and access to any file Bethesda created.

A month goes by and while Playstation was in beta for mods the mod authors found out they were limited to only 900mb of space with extremely limited texture support and zero audio support. Bethesda let us know that Sony would not allocate more than 900mb to modding due to security reasons and that Sony had claimed they had proprietary sound and texture files and would not allow players access to either. This pretty much cripples 99.8% of the mods on the site.

A while went by with no word from Sony ever. Bethesda just the other day announced that they have not been able to make any headway with Sony. They will not budge from the 900mb limit nor the texture and sound issues. Because of this they finally took down the PS mods on their b.net site and that for the time there will not be mods on PS4 for Fallout or Skyrim unless things can change at Sony.

Aside from that someone on reddit claims to have emailed Sony and got a response. This is their post:

"I understand you have a concern about mod support coming to PlayStation 4. We have no plans at this time to add this feature to PlayStation 4, but that doesn't mean we have ruled it out. Considering the install base of 40 million PlayStation 4s since release, PlayStation 4 continues to deliver exciting gaming experiences and continues to expand those experiences with the latest announcement of PS4 Pro due for release on November 2016, bringing with it even better visuals with the introduction of 4K and HDR support.

I realise that you feel that PS4 may not appear to be the console of choice for gamers worldwide, but our latest stats show otherwise. Unfortunately we won't be disclosing these figures.

While I understand you would like to see this feature come to PS4, as previous mentioned, there are no plans at this time to include support for it"

As you can see they have said that they are not allowing at this time but it apparently hasn't been "Ruled out" but in my opinion this just sounds like corporate talk for yeah, your not getting mods.

Personally I am not bothered about the PS4 Pro, and despite what they reply from the Sony employee says, the PS4 Pro cannot put out true 4K, it can only upscale to 4K resolutions.

I would just like to say that the email I sent to Sony was not hateful in anyway, I didn't say Sony was shit, I only put across my thoughts on the situation and basically said that at this moment in time I am not considering buying another Sony PlayStation console but that is for other reasons, not just mods.

It was nice of the Sony employee to email me back, my email could have easily been deleted and unanswered, and for that I thank Sony/the employee.

I hope this helps some of you out and maybe gives you a little insight into the current situation of mods for Fallout 4/Skyrim SE on PS4, although I don't think we will see mods anytime soon, and there is a large chance PS4 will never see mods.

Sony and their proprietary bullshit

They're just shooting themselves in the foot if anything. @ restricting the storage allocation for "security reasons". Their dedication to security sure did a great job preventing PSN credit card info from getting hacked.

It was mentioned in another thread but some of the reveals over the weekend at the PS Conference. Videos in the link

Forbes Welcome

Sony and its partners showed off a bunch of games at yesterday's PSX Keynote event. We saw some new games, some about-to-be-released games, and much more.

Let's take a look at the best trailers from the PlayStation Experience so far.

The Last Guardian

The Last Guardian was stuck in development purgatory for so long, many people began to say it would never come out. Originally developed for the PS3, it's captured the imagination of fans of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus for ages, but it's almost miraculous that it launches this Tuesday. It looks great, but there's always some concern that games trapped so long in development will suffer. I want to believe!

Nioh

A Dark Souls-ish game about Samurai's starring a dude who looks like Geralt of Rivia, Nioh is a challenging, atmospheric action-RPG and a lot of fun. I admit, I preferred the original alpha gameplay to the beta gameplay, though. Here's to hoping the final product is as amazing as this trailer makes it look.

Persona 5

Very few games coming out in 2017 have me as excited as Persona 5. Persona 4 remains one of my all-time favorite JRPGs/real-life simulators + demon battles and dungeoneering. The mix of the mundane and the bizarre is such a great, weird juxtaposition and this trailer has me more excited than ever to just get lost in the world of Persona 5.

The Last Of Us Part II

Not only am I super excited to continue the story of Ellie and Joel (this time Ellie is the playable character) this trailer is simply stunning. The music, the direction, the amount of raw emotion it conveys and how well it sets up the revenge theme...as far as game trailers go, it's about as good as they come. That's no surprise given how great the trailers were for the first game. This was easily my favorite moment from the PSX Keynote. (Read more about the game here.)

Horizon Zero Dawn

This game looks so gorgeous and so unlike anything developer Guerrilla Games has put out, that while I have do have some doubts, I can't help but feel some serious hype for Horizon Zero Dawn. Robot dinosaurs! A badass redhead protagonist with a bow! They'd have to massively screw the pooch to make this game anything other than amazing.

Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite

A lot of people have expressed concerns over this one, but I think it looks awesome. Then again, I haven't played any of the games in this series before so I'm not expert enough to pick out whatever warning signs may be present. Graphically, it looks outstanding and honestly I'm just stoked to be able to play a mash-up of Marvel and Capcom heroes.

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy

Instead of Nathan Drake, you play as Chloe Frazer in Uncharted: Lost Legacy. The game takes place after the events of Uncharted 4's main story, and is being offered as both part of the season pass and as a "massive" stand-alone experience. That's pretty great. I'm just curious to find out what it will be like to play as someone other than Drake in the Uncharted universe. (Read more about the game here.)

Dreadnought

I haven't played a lot of RTS space games lately, but Dreadnought looks like a great console entry in the genre. This is also just a great trailer with perfect music, lots of gameplay, and gorgeous looking graphics. The game is described as a "a class-based action game that puts you at the center of tactical battles throughout the Solar System and across the skies of different planets." Sounds good to me.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy

Not just a remaster, not quite a remake, developer Vicarious Visions is describing this as a "remaster plus." That's fine by me, though a brand new Crash game would be better. Vicarious Visions is one of the developers behind the Skylanders franchise, and since Crash was just featured in the latest game in that series, this announcement should come as no surprise. I'm just happy we can play some of these great old platformers on our modern consoles.

Knack 2

I don't know if this trailer makes me want to play Knack 2 or just dance dance dance. Either way, it sure looks a lot better than the lackluster original which served as the PS4's launch platformer. Knack always had potential, but it looks like the sequel is aiming for redemption. Co-op play is a no-brainer, also. Looking forward to this one for sure.

Vane

Vane may look good, but it sounds even better. I just want to soak that synth in. According to the official description, Vane is "an atmospheric adventure about unraveling the secrets of an unknown land, finding your place in it, and pulling at the threads of the world to make a change." Adventuring through a lonely desert filled with strange ruins while listening to a badass OST? Yes please.

Nex Machina

Speaking of great music, Nex Machina's trailer continues that trend. From the makers of Resogun comes this top-down arcade shooter and it looks utterly absorbing, frenetic and tough. Resogun was a great game, but this looks better---or at least it looks more like my kind of game than Resogun was. Housemarque is unlikely to disappoint.

Update:

Ni No Kuni II

I've added Ni No Kuni II to this list as I somehow inexplicably forgot to include it. Something is definitely wrong with me. Anyways, I loved almost everything about the original (it's a Studio Ghibli RPG so how can you not love it?) but I really found the combat to be tedious, repetitive and too frequent. Here's to hoping the sequel improves in that department since man-oh-man this game looks amazing and beautiful.

/end update/

My take:

So, I think the best trailer out of the bunch is easily The Last Of Us Part II. On the other hand, that's still a long ways out. We won't get our hands on the game for another couple years, most likely. My most anticipated game on the list, then, has to be Persona 5 with a close Nioh second. Third place is Horizon Zero Dawn. (Edit: Also Ni No Kuni II tying for third place.)

What about you?
