Gran Turismo 5 Spec 2.0 update detailed, DLC coming soon
<cite class="vcard"> Adam Rosenberg </cite> <time pubdate="" datetime="Wed, 05 Oct 2011 11:13:55 +0000" title="October 05, 2011 11:13 AM">October 5, 2011</time>
The upcoming Spec 2.0 update for Gran Turismo 5 has had some of its features detailed on Twitter by series creator Kazunori Yamauchi/
It’s probably no coincidence that Polyphyny Digital is talking about upcoming Gran Turismo 5 as Forza Motorsport 4 prepares to make its bow next week. GT series creator Kazunori Yamauchi spoke teasingly of a coming Spec 2.0 update on Twitter last week, and now he’s using the micro-blogging service to fill in a few more details.
Spec 2.0 will add a number of new elements to the game, starting with a more simplified interior view for the game’s many, many cars. Players will also be able to tweak the weather settings and save customized presets for cars. A new save feature will also be added for in-game use, making it possible to step away for a breather during those long endurance races. The instant replay and photo tools will also be improved, with fast-forward and rewind controls as well as the ability to take photos of cars in the NASCAR Pit Scene.
But wait, there’s more! You’ll also have a new set of filters to work with for picking out the right multiplayer matches for you. And hey, new cars too. Look for 11 additional 2011 NASCAR rides, as well as the Nissan GT-R Schulze Motor Sport. In addition, Spec 2.0 will also add support for the Logitech G25 and G27 racing wheels.
Yamauchi also revealed that several DLC packs are in the works, each one carrying a different theme. A racing car pack, a course pack and a racing gear pack are all mentioned. Details are coming soon, as the DLC is expected to arrive a week after Spec 2.0 launches. In related news, the PlayStation Blog revealed today that the price of Gran Turismo 5 has been dropped to $39.99.

All cars will now have an interior view, a feature previously only available for premium vehicles. There's also word of shortened load times (Gran Turismo 5 has one of the most epically long load times of any PS3 game) and improved menu response, which was a somewhat annoying issue previously when players just wanted to get into a quick race.
Another nice addition coming to GT5 is the ability to save progress during endurance races. In the past, events like the Indy 500 were very tedious, because if you shut off the PS3 you'd have to start over. NASCAR fans will also be delighted to see the addition of 11 cars from this year's season.
Too bad we can't control weather like this in real life.

Car physics and the A.I. of opponents are also set to improve, which should add more realism to the experience during competition. Racers will now have more control over weather settings when creating races, as seen above. We also spotted official support for the Logitech G25/G27 steering wheels, new features in the online lounge, and photo travel mode updates.

NASCAR has Road Atlanta. If GT5 gets Road Atlanta, I will be jumping off the walls. that is a f'ing amazing track.

wait.. I checked and I am not seeing Road Atlanta. BUT, I am seeing Road America - an equally amazing track. And would elicit an equal reaction in me. Especially having driven on that track myself!
I would also like to see Infineon back, and Watkins Glen would be amazing to get as well.
There's also a number of other roadcourses that I would love to see in the game. Ovals, no I am not interested, we have some already in GT5.
