Well my springs showed up over the weekend. Need to go pickup a cutoff tool. Not sure if I will get around to installing them this weekend or not. I have some house projects that are planned first.

So a driving and not a part update. In the past two weeks I have driven the V more than I have driven my TSX in a year and more than Kam will probably drive his V all year. I put 2500 miles on in the past two weeks with no real issues. I do have an intermittent check engine light for who knows what cause everytime it comes on I don't have my reader with me and the code doesn't seem to stay stored. I need to remember to put it in the car so I can pull over and pull the code next time it happens. Before the start of all those miles I did come up with a rather rigged solution to my exhaust rattle. I wedged some black pipe insulation around the hander where it was making contact with the body mount on the underside of the car. Has been so nice driving around without that rattle. Who knows how long it will last though.

Also forgot to mention this but those that went with the Conti DW tires I now am up to 16,652 miles on my current set. The front's are starting to looks like they should be replaced on the out edges for some reason but the middle bands still show both the D and W which they say means you can still drive in the Dry and Wet on them. The rears seem fine and have both the D and W left as well and seem fine to me so not sure when I will get around to roasting them. Want to get my full value out of them first. Only real worry is about the fronts with how they are wearing into the second layer before the middle of the tire is worn out even with the proper PSI always in them.

i wish that be the case but i sold the Lexus so the Vagon will start to get used as a daily now... you'd chuckle but Mrs K took the Vagon to work last week (her whopping 4 mile commute)

That is a review of the DWs on the Vagon. That mileage total is probably 1/3 city/around town and 2/3 high way.

So over lunch yesterday was able to pull codes. They stayed stored this time thankfully. The codes I have an P0171 System Too Lean Bank 1 and P0174 System Too Lean Bank 2. From doing some research it might appear I have a vacuum leak somewhere. I cleared the codes and they haven't come back right now. I think it only happens really when I come to a complete stop at some point after a WOT run. I had a good run on Sunday in Mexico against a Mustang GT350 getting all the way up to 140. Those things are quick.

Time for the next phase of this slow process. On Cyber Monday the deal was just too good and I gave in and finally bought springs. They showed up early last week and I got around to getting them installed this weekend. I am sure glad I didn't try and tackle this on the weekend as from everything I read this should have been an easy install so it was tempting to maybe give it a shot one night after work. It turned out to be the most difficult and frustrating install I have ever done on for a suspension.

Ok they are here it's time to get started.


We all know the only way to install springs on an American car is to cut them now that J has showed us the way.


And well I needed to cut something so what better time to buy a new tool.


So next I started with the fronts. I got the car up on jack stands and ready to go. Zipped the top bolts off the struts with my impact gun. Then removed the ABS line bolts, then the ball joint nut, and then the lower strut bolts. Everything was going nice, smooth, and easy.

That is until we get to this stupid piece. The rubber/metal spring top perch.


I have no idea what was wrong with my car compared to others but this didn't come out with everything else. It stayed put. Like really put. I tried to carefully remove it for about 30min before calling J. He had kindly given me his number incase I ran into any issues. So I called him up. After we discussed at length whether or not he could have my used sex doll and what I would be willing to take in trade for it we finally got to talking about the issue at hand.

After coming to the conclusion that there was nothing actually holding them on other than road grime and friction I set off to try and pry them off. But just prying them off didn't work. No I had to go all crazy and use a large screw driver and a small sledge hammer to get the damn suckers off.


You can actually see the marks causesd from having to go this route. The passenger side was the worst. It took me about 15-20 min of carefully doing this so to make sure I didn't damage anything or accidently strike the fender since the angle to get in between had me hitting right by the fender.


So everything is finally out. Then pictures and other install instructions showed I should have had a nylon washer and some litte small other washer that went on top of it. I didn't. Not only that but my washer didn't sit on top of the top hat but rather goes right through it. At that point I said screw it and just put it all back together the way it came off.




While doing this I checked out my control arm bushings. I have thought for a while now they are part of my problem with my front steering. It always feels so much easier to turn left than it does to turn right. Well I am not 100% sure but I think I have found my problem finally. My front upper control arm bushings are completely torn. I could freely move the drivers side arm up and down with no resistance at all. When I had removed the ball joint nut there was no pressure at all on that side. When I removed the passenger side it shot up back level the way it should.




So because of my torn bushings I will be ordering the new poly ones today so I can get that repaired as well with fix my sliding control arms with the included nordlock washers. I think I will have to find a shop to install them though cause I don't have a machine to press in the new bushings.

Fronts finally all back together.


The rears were not as bad but trying to get that nylon clip out was the worst. I ended up braking one and never put the other one back in at all. I figured the weight of the car should have no problem holding everything in place. Not only that but I couldn't figure out how to get it back in after the fact the spring was in.

Back back together.


Finally back on the ground.


Got a little to much camber now though. Will wait and see how it sits once I add the spacers though before trying to adjust it the way J explained.




And to finish it off one day time shot. Didn't take anymore cause she really needs a bath first and I wasn't going to bother with a wash when it is supposed to rain the first half of this week.

Not much difference in the ride really. Might be a tiny bit stiffer but thats it. Seems to rebound a little better to me though with the progressive springs.

I scraped my exhaust this morning coming to work over my stupid complexes huge speed bumps. Now have to take a tricky angle to get in. Going to see if I can raisey exhaust a tad bit as well.

That is pretty much exactly how I felt when it happened. That thing is too nice and pretty to scrape up. Hoping I can grind it down and polish it back to a shine if it isn/t that bad. I am able to make it in and out at an angle now for sure but I had no idea it was that close the first time.

order some new clips for the rear...even if the weight holds them in, you want to ensure they can't slip out of place.
Glad you got up on it...looking awesome! I know it's been challenging but in the end, you'll get it all sorted and have a bad ass wagon!

PS...your middle name isn't Statham?
Remember what I said about researching torque specs, being careful with that one bolt. Since you don't do doughnuts, you probably won't have issues.

As much as I would like to lower my V (it looks so good) I remember back when I had the Vette. I would have to take those tricky angles you mentioned going into parking lots and also have to choose the right gas station so I didn't scrape going in.. Even the slightest dip on the highway, that I can easily take with the V, I used to cringe as I approached it in the C6 GS because it would lightly scrape sometimes. It was a real PIA..

Exactly, since I'm in NY I can relate to exactly what you're saying.. And now once the snow falls and they salt, and we get the temp swings the potholes or as my son calls them "craters" will begin to appear..

im hoping that sprinkling we got yesterday will be the norm for this winter... we got lucky last year with it being mild... hopefully we can get another... i still need to put the snow tires on my car...

I hope so too, another mild winter would be awesome. I hate the winter especially snow.. Fortunately I don't have to daily my V, so she will sit in the garage once the white stuff hits and until a good rain washes the salt away..

Jason...just dawned on me...if you pulled the cradles in on the rear, it'll lift the rear that quarter inch to lose the saggy ass and lift your exhaust up.

Going to wait and see if I have the space available to do that after putting the spacers on first. If I do I am doing to make the adjustment Thursday cause I have the day off and will be able to take it for an alignment right after I do it.
