So after some thinking yesterday making sure I don't miss anything that could be an expensive service in the next year or two I added an upgraded timing chain and tensoner to the list of parts. With the car already having just shy of 80k miles and the amount of miles per year I put on this car I would have been most likely doing that service in a little over 2 years. By doing it now for one it only costs me parts and two I should not have to do it again for 5+ years now.

Yeah it only ended up costing me $150 for the parts. I am sure labor would be $500 or more to change that later when the motor isn't torn apart.

Chains can some what last forever. I have seen a lot of suggestions to replace at 150k. Not many people keep cars that long these days so for the average car owner it becomes forever. The plastic guides for the chain are known to break in the CTS-V. Luckily they normally stay in place though once they break. I figured it was just one more small piece of mind to have going forward.

I'd like to learn more about this.. I saw this post from GPX

I always change over to a 3 bolt and damper and lose the tensioner. The C5R chain is a nice upgrade for a single chain

I think they might pitch a lot of stuff that "might" break but I think a lot of it is based on theory or the fact that you're over xxx HP...
I think most people with a mostly stock V won't have to worry.

You on a slippery slope, Mr. Deep Pockets!

PS...lit up this cambergang E46 that cut me off going 9XMPH...I didn't even put down my coffee and the car felt so smooth and stable as I chuckled going by at 1XXMPH.

I am switching to a 3 bolt as well. Pretty much everyone switches that out when going with a cam. That was already happening in my original parts list. I am just adding a new chain to the deal at this point.

Yeah I am probably doing a lot of stuff that might break when going with more power. However, I see it more cost effective than not replacing it and being out for an entire new motor down the line. Consider it hopefuly insurance really.

I wouldn't call them deep pockets. This is breaking the bank right now. I am eating Ramen noodles for the rest of the year now.

He probably was so confused after that.

So the engine shop was a little backed up and the shop won't have the engine back till the end of this week now. So ETA is I should have my car back next Thursday or Friday. This wait is killing me. By then it will have been 6 weeks without the car.

So got an update today. Car should be finished next Tuesday or Wednesday. I added an AeroForce gauge as I figured I needed the safety of being able to monitor A/F.

Honestly, stopped counting at this point. I have been making payments here and there on the part cost as they are ordering them. Some of the labor needs to be paid still. I should have a total invoice when I pick it up. If I had to take a guess right now with having added headers and lifters then to the original bill I won't be shocked if we are up into the 16-17k range now So if it comes in below that even by a penny I will be happy.

Will depend on if they get me the car Tuesday or Wednesday. I need to get my new tires installed on Thursday before the road trip so if I have Wednesday to do a video before it is dark I will get one if not then it will have to wait till this next set of tires is toast.

I hope I like it. Going to be the most powerful thing I have ever driven before.

Been trying to figure out how I am going to install my AeroForce gauge as I would like to keep the clock. I think after spending a lot of time searching on the board that this is what I am going to go with.
