Well...the S2000 needed more doors, more driven wheels, and a lot more torque...

Is the M3 roomier than the Golf R, though? I just did a quick search and both seemed to pull up a 35.6in rear legroom. How does the Tesla size as well?
The car seat talk has me rethinking more about the R considering I keep my cars for a long time and a baby is in the future plans.
How much rear legroom does a Mustang have again?
30.6in... don't look it up.

I would but can't afford it. 2018+ E63 wagons are at least $85k and most of them are in the mid 90's. Too poor for that.
I know, and I get it but the Tesla is $5k cheaper for a brand new car vs a 3 year old M3 with 26k on the clock. Also, the Tesla is faster around a track too so...
There's no way the M3 doesn't have more room, it's a considerably bigger car. I'm not sure how those measurements are taken. We'll find out this weekend. Tesla for sure has more space, my friend has a Model Y and he sent me a pic of his infant seat in there. My wife is 5-8 and her knees are in the dashboard with the baby seat in the back. The Golf is great for everything except rear facing infant seats. If your other half isn't tall then it's probably fine.
This. R is cheaper too.

R Pro: No one would think twice if the R starts to act up and so you decide to sell it on Craigslist. The same cannot be said for if your child starts to act up and you decide to sell it on Craigslist.

Wife is shorter than me and I'm already short (shorter than your wife), so maybe it won't be an issue after all.

Yes, 100% bringing the car seat to test lol. It's an important decision factor. Wife and I are the same height, if you or your wife are 5-5 or less, it would be just fine. Only thing to keep in mind for a baby is they require an inordinate amount of shit to be carried around anytime you go anywhere. A Golf isn't going to handle that as your only car, not even close. You have to have something bigger, at least CRV size, bigger than that is better still. Our Outback wasn't good enough to take all her shit, plus stroller, plus our stuff, plus dog stuff so we had to go bigger.

For those heights, you should be more than fine fitting a child seat in a Golf.

I'm 6'0", so I took both kids (in front facing 5-pt harness seats) with me when I was shopping. IF they don't fit, it's not even worth test driving.
Luckily, they both fit fine in the Merc & no issue in the 'Bu.
The oldest should be GTG once the Rotus is finished.

There are two, both 2018 6MT models. One is some individual black color non-comp the other is an alpine white comp model. They have a Tanzanite blue one as well but it's a no go as it's missing a pedal. Also going to take a gander at the X3M as well.

I'm ok with white. Yes it's boring but it's also easy to upkeep unlike any black color.
Front facing seats are WAY easier than rear facing. They'll fit into just about everything.

makes it less daunting to run out with your kid when you just grab 1 diaper and a fold up changing pad and
maybe an extra outfit in case shit gets on the current one. I guess also bring an extra outfit for the kid for that
same scenario.

Yeah I know and if we're just running out for a bit knowing we'll be back home before she needs her next food/nap/whatever then we just bring the diaper bag with the stuff you mentioned, that's it. If we go to my parent's place or my in-law's place then it requires a lot more stuff because we're there for a lot longer.

Ok here's the run down...
Went to take a look at G80 again yesterday and see the F80 I was actually there to see. It's definitely better looking in person but it's still fugly. The F80 is way better looking. Anyway, the 6MT comp white one I was there to see wasn't all that well kept and it showed so I'm passing on that one. They also have a Azurite black one that's going through their reconditioning that looks to be in much better shape and comes with a set of snow tires already. Sales rep is trying to find out when it'll be done so I can go drive it. Saw the car though and Azurite is way more blue than black, it just looks like really dark navy blue. They also had an Avus blue F80 that was t1ts but it was DCT so no go on that.
Then I went to drive the Model 3 Performance after seeing the M3 and holy fucking shit. That thing is downright fantastic in every way. Pushing the pedal is like engaging warp drive, handling is also way better than I ever expected it to be. It's also $4k less for a NEW Model 3P compared to a USED F80 with 30k on the clock. It's also cheaper to run, cheaper to maintain, cheaper to insure, is AWD for winter, comes with a full warranty, and has all the tech features the F80 wasn't even offered with. Downside to Tesla is the build quality is worse but it's not bad. Material quality isn't as good and no manual or cool exhaust sound but the car as a whole feels like it's out of a different century. Tried the Model Y as well and it's bigger but slower and more expensive. I don't need a bigger car at this point so I'd probably just go with the 3.
I'm still going to go back and try out the black one before making a decision but right now I'm definitely leaning Tesla. If Biden can renew the tax rebates for EV's that would be the cherry on top.

While there's a lot of things I don't like about Tesla (the Trumper-esque fanboys are at the top of the list), the Tesla was the only car I drove that had me laughing the entire time. The way it accelerates is hilarious. Even the non-performance 3 was fast.

I'm still going to try out the other M3 and see how that goes but I have a hard time justifying paying a lot more money for a lot less content.

Did you drive the Y? The speed difference was barely noticeable on the street on the one I drove but it had way more wind noise compared to the 3. Maybe they've addressed it, but that's enough for me to stick with the 3.
I'd assume if you got the Tesla, you'd lease?

I'm going to buy. Leasing a Tesla is actually more expensive than buying. The resale values rival a Wrangler.

Blue. To match my car.
I would have bought the M3 on Saturday if the money part worked out but I cannot bring myself to pay a lot more for a lot less.
2018 M3 non-comp 6MT with 34k on the clock, 1 year of factory warranty left. Not AWD, no adaptive cruise or any other modern driving aids. Asking $61k. 6mo insurance cost ~$260. Plus gas, maintenance, repair, etc.
2021 M3P with full warranty and all the gizmos, no FSD because lol@ $10K option that's not actually FSD, selling price is $57k. 6mo insurance cost ~$220. No gas, very little maintenance and repair.
It just doesn't compute in my head to put money into a M3 to get worse performance, reliability, running costs, insurance costs, etc vs the EV.

If I'm giving up the manual, I'm going to go EV. Makes no sense not to. Also, my drive to work is 1.5 miles each way which is perfect for EV use.
I'll pay up to RS5 money if you cover the rest for me to get the new RS7.

I figured as much... Driving a Heep means you've didn't have much dignity to start with. Considering a Tesla means you given up what little remained.
So I'm gonna guess you wear grey socks with your blue Crocs... Not wild enough to wear white socks, and not professional enough for black socks. Just sort of middle ground "meh" grey socks.
It's appropriate.

New RS5 is way out of my budget. They are well into the $80k range. Used RS5's haven't depreciated much, they are sitting in the low to mid 70's which is a lot for a 3 year old car without the latest infotainment. Honestly, the whole used car market right now is batshit crazy so it makes little sense to get a used one.
A used S5 is in the same ballpark as the Model 3 but is still missing a ton of the same tech and such. It's also, unsurprisingly, quite a lot slower and doesn't have the same performance. New S5 SB's are in the same price range as a new M3. I'd get one of those before I got a S5.
Edit: The RS5 is knocking on base Taycan range...
