Fifth Gear did a hot hatch comparison recently. It was the Golf GTI v. Focus ST v. Megane 265 v. Astra VXR ... A very interesting segment.
I love my ST but if someone offered me a LHD Astra, I'd trade for it. It looks amazing and is quite a car:

Though they already have a Dodge Charger, a BMW 5-Series, a Bentley, a Mercedes-Benz SLS, a Ferrari FF, and a Lamborghini Aventador, it appears as if the Dubai police department really just needed an Aston Martin One-77 just to make their collection really pop. Local news outlet Emirates 24/7 has confirmed that the Dubai police are adding the $1.4 million Aston supercar, and it's set to be unveiled tomorrow. This means that the Dubai police now have a single car whose price tag exceeds the annual budget of many police departments. Good for them. So far this image has been seen floating around the internet, though at the moment we are unable to confirm its veracity: Expand Also rumored is that this particular example is one of the seven that make up the Q Series One-77, which comes with some extra interior additions, some more carbon fiber, and an HD video camera attached. You gotta hand it to the Dubai police - if nothing else, they've got some good taste. As with the Ferrari and Lamborghini, however, these vehicles are not going to be chasing down perps, but rather posing in the tourist areas.

Yea, it was an interesting test. Id take the Renault, personally.

that VXR pic is meh... c'mon man.
Can't say I knew what this current gen looked like. Very nice. Focus ST is still top of my list as far as hatches go though. Though I'd love any of the ones in the comparo in my garage.

It's rumored that the Focus RS may come to the US in 2015.
All I have to say is - if a 330hp AWD Focus RS does indeed come stateside, I am placing a pre-order as soon as I can.

^if anything, wouldn't it be the FWD Focus RS with RevoKnuckle front suspension?
an AWD Focus RS would likely approach $40k or maybe higher with the right options, wouldn't it?

With the AWD, they could compete with the Golf R, WRX/STi, and Evo.
I'd be willing to say there would be pretty good demand for the RS.
Maybe Ford is using the ST to test the market.

Atom for sure. That thing seems batshit crazy. That Rimac looks pretty cool, too.
Question: I've been having to disconnect my battery the past couple of days every time I park it (car is fine). Is this bad for the car in any way, or is there anything I should be worried about?

so guess it wasn't limited to production cars. Also the Porsche 911 turbo can do 2.8.
I honestly dont think the murcielago can do under 3... I dont think the aventador can even do it. I could be wrong and i'm to lazy to look it up but I dont believe it haha

We recently tested the Focus ST on the track for an upcoming comparison article with the Mazdaspeed3 and AutoGuide hot shoe David Pratte had his suspicions, which have since been confirmed by Ford’s chassis guru at Team RS Vehicle Dynamics (and a man with a rather similar name) David Put.

Ralph Lauren just bought a $700k RUF CTR-3: http://www.cnbc.com/id/100716068
Oh to be rich.....
Oh to be rich.....
What do you buy for the car collector who has everything?
Apparently, an RUF CTR-3.
Ralph Lauren, the fashion mogul and vintage-car collector, recently took delivery of a new RUF CTR-3, according to people familiar with the deal. Lauren was snapped by the car-parazzi taking it for a spin recently in the Hamptons.
A spokesman for Lauren declined comment.
For super-rich car collectors, the RUF is one of those cult brands with a storied past and a reputation for high performance. Germany-based RUF Automobile has modified Porsches for 50 years, pimping them out with a super-charged flat-six cylinder engine and bulking up the frames with its own wings, fenders and vents.
The CTR-3 has a base price of $680,000 but most of them top $700,000 with customized specs. This is not merely a souped-up Porsche; the CTR-3 is built more from scratch. Only the front end and part of the engine originate from a Porsche 911.
Its swooping body with a long, Le Mans-style tail is made from carbon fiber. The car has a 777-horsepower engine and, according to the company, can "go faster than anyone can drive."
RUF has sold three of its CTR-3's in the U.S., but has only sold 25 CTR-3's since the product was launched in 2007. RUF has other models, of course, but only makes and sells about 30 to 35 cars a year.
"Our customers appreciate the performance of these cars, it's like a true race car," said Estonia Ruf of Ruf Automobile. "For people who like race history, this car has lines that evoke that past but it also has elements of a new model. It's not retro. But the lines are very beautiful."
The perfect new car, in other words, for a man who already has a garage full of vintage Ferraris and Bugattis.

I can't conceive of it. Because a person could win the biggest Powerball in the history of the United States by themselves ($657M) and after taxes and taking the cash option they'd not even sniff the richest 400 people in the United States (a club that starts at $1B).
Lauren is worth $6.5B so even if he's only earning 5% he's still earning $325M a year. Basically, Ralph spending $700k on a RUF is like a guy making $50k a year buying a $107 DVD player if my math is right.
Like I said, it's just inconceivable.

That'll be the first or second CTR3 in the US to my knowledge. I remembered asking RAC Performance back when it was a Ruf Authorized dealer about anyone in the US ordering one & they said the only order they knew of was one going to Brazil.

I've only seen 2 RUFs in my life. The first was a GT2RS on the highway back around '07-'08, looked like a painful ride to commute in. The car hopped over every expansion joint in the highway, but it looked awesome.
The other was a '87 (IIRC) slantnose 911 convertible. Supposedly 1 of 2 in the US (according to the notes on it). It was at a classic car consignment lot when I lived/worked.
Even if it wasn't as rare as it was listed, it looked amazing.

Oh oops. I thought the RS went for more than that. This car new would have cost around $153k or so. So not as big a savings as I had thought.
