now THIS GUY........... is cool
Man owned & drove the same car for 82 years
They certainly don't make them like that any more.
This man Owned & Drove Same Car for 82 YEARS. Can you imagine having the same car for 82 years! "How Long Have You Owned a Car?" Mr. Allen Swift ( Springfield , MA.) received this 1928 Rolls-Royce Piccadilly-P1 Roadster from his father, brand new - as a graduation gift in 1928. He drove it up until his death last year.....at the age of 102 !!! He was the oldest living owner of a car that was purchased new. Just thought you'd like to see it.
It was donated to a Springfield museum after his death. It has 1,070,000 miles on it, still runs like a Swiss watch, dead silent at any speed and is in perfect cosmetic condition. (82 years). That's approximately 13,048 miles per year.

Ferrari 458 Spyder becomes priciest prize ever on “The Price Is Right”

By Justin Hyde | Motoramic – 2 hours 43 minutes ago
Nothing has kept viewers tuning into "The Price Is Right" for four decades quite like the spectacle of watching a tourist play an oversize board game to win a new car. Three years ago, the show gave away a Tesla Roadster, its most valuable car ever — until today, when as part of the show's "Big Money Week," host Drew Carey and model Manuela Abrealez revealed the biggest prize in the show's history: a 570-hp Ferrari 458 Spyder .
The contestant, Therese, had to play "Three Strikes," the game where the player draws numbers from a bag and matches the digits of the car's price in their correct order while avoiding the dreaded red strike. When "The Price Is Right" contestants first started pulling numbers from a bag for Bob Barker, the cars only had four-digit prices; with the Ferrari's sticker price of $285,716 and three strikes, Therese's odds were slightly better than the typical contestant's.
Within her first three draws, Therese had two strikes.
From there, she picked a string of numbers, but tried to put the 6 and 8 as the first digit in the Ferrari's price. By the time the third strike appeared, Therese had not matched a single number, and out came the saddest of trombones.
It's probably for the best; Therese would have likely owed a hefty tax bill had she won the car, not to mention thousands in insurance if she wanted to drive it; as we were noting earlier this week, history suggests people who win supercars aren't always prepared for life behind the wheel. The TPIR Recap blog has the full report on whether Therese won some consolation in the Showcase Showdown, but the other contestant who played for a car in today's episode came up a winner, and will enjoy his new Hyundai Elantra.
The Spyder will hold its title of most-expensive Price Is Right car for some time, but will only last a day as the biggest prize, thanks to Friday's promise of a Plinko game worth $500,000.

Elon Musk apparently hinted at a 500 mile range is not something out of reach in the next 4-5 years.
Also I remember some people were saying that if you brick the Tesla you have to pay for a battery pack even if the cars under warranty, that was cleared up and you dont pay a cent. And its supposedly harder to brick the Model S.

a lot of people hate on new technology and companies that do new technology such as electric cars for whatever reason... maybe they are forgetting that if electric cars become popular, gas prices will come down. Can you imagine a day when there is little *need* for gasoline?? it's gonna be a glorious time for people with gasoline cars.

VW is still sorting a few other details. The Performance pack will likely be clustered as a single option, perhaps with the DSG dual-clutch automatic.

Toyota 2000GT
Jason Torchinsky Today 1:30pm 10,952 77

This $1.2 Million Toyota Nearly Tripled In Value In Three Years

The Toyota 2000GT is an absolutely stunning car. They only made 351 of these (only 62 LHD) long, lithe lovelies, but this was the first car that proved Japan could compete with almost anyone when it comes to making advanced, fast, beautiful cars. And now that one's sold for $1,155,000, there's even less chance broke-ass schmucks like me will ever get one. What's especially striking is that this million-plus 1967 Toyota is the same car that as recently as 2010 was selling for about $375,000. At that time, the car was sold to the Don Davis Collection, who, in the intervening years did a bit of freshening up:
... but during its time in the Davis Collection, it has undergone significant work to improve the restoration’s authenticity, including painting the inside of the headlamp buckets black, applying the correct grey finish around the side window surrounds, finishing the wheels the correct color, and taking the Toyota down to bare metal and respraying the body its original Bendix Yellow.
So, if you think about it, that would make what amounts to a nice paint job worth around $775,000. I don't think it was just the paint that accounts for the dramatic increase in price. These have traditionally been somewhat under appreciated exotics, their value for many years remaining low, crushed under the weight of old-school brand/nationalistic snobbery. It looks like those old attitudes are changing, and changing pretty dramatically.

If the 1965 2000GT was Toyota's answer to the Jag XKE, the 800 Sport could have been its Alfa… Read…

So, for those of us enamored with the E-Type-through-a-Japanese-lens look of the 2000GT, this is bittersweet, as it's a justification of the value of the car, and another leap out of reach of the car to most people. Of course, it was pretty out of reach to begin with. Luckily, the 2000GT had a little brother that has a the same charm, and a similar look, even if it lacked four of the big brother's cylinders: the Toyota Sports 800, still often attainable for around $15,000 or so. Better snap them up now, before I'm writing another article about how I can't afford Sports 800s, either. Expand Expand Expand Expand Expand Expand Expand Expand (Photo Credit: RM Auctions)

So, I'm pretty well decided that the next car will be an E36 M3, but it turns out that the market isn't as big as it was a few years ago. Looking for a '94-'99 coupe with a manual with preferably less than 100K on the odo & under $20K. Don't really care about the color or location for now. So far, this is the closest I've found to what I'm looking for:

I know this is probably the wrong place, but I know a few of you like Srika seem to browse the ads every so often, so hopefully maybe one of you will stumble across one in your area before I do.

As much as I would love an E46, it's not in the funds. Most of the examples I'd like (6MT, under 70,000 miles) are above $20K, & in that range, I have to get rid of the Acura. The 2nd issue is that I find it hard to have the E46 as my sole car & put 40 miles on it a day, 5 days a week for work alone. That will undoubtedly increase maintenance intervals. And even if that wasn't an issue, I don't really want to rack up such mileage on one; I want to keep the car babied.
A nice E36 example though, is well available for under $20K & I can keep the Acura as well leaving the M as the weekend car. That should knock down any maintenance service significantly, & whatever work it will need, parts are much more available and it's an easier engine to work with.
The older gen. just seems like a more sensible choice for what I want. This will also hopefully serve as my entry car into tracking & I think the E36 will be an easier car to start with. I'm already well used to 240Hp where as the 333Hp is something I have little experience playing with in a RWD car.

As said though man, maintenance costs are just more affordable on the E36. As a friend who worked as a tech. for BMW Dallas told me, when looking at the E46 M3, it doesn't hurt to expect to be spending around $5,000 1-2 years on it depending on what you're having done. 800+ miles a month is going to be hell on the wallet every couple months with oil changes & whatever other regular maintenance.
Believe me, if I had the funds to cover the M3 as my only car & put that much wear on it, I would shoot for it in a heartbeat. I can afford the car, it's just a stretch to afford working on it.

Mileage is just too much for what I want out of the E46 gen. Call it being way too picky, but as far as the E46 gen goes, I;d like one closer to 50,000 miles as there seem to be plenty that hit the market every so often. I just don't know what to expect once that generation climbs over 80,000 miles except that it better have Inspection II completed.

Pretty much everything else has WELL more than 100k miles.

Ermagherd don't do it. I have an E36 ... They are not good cars. My '98 328i has been a fergin' nightmare and there's no reason to think you won't have the same issue unless you are lucky enough to find a guy like me that got assfucked for maintenance and then sold it because it was an abusive relationship
