General Car Talk Discussion Thread
tryna join my schools SAE club so i can race the car they make! Hopefully i'm quick enough... trying to help build the car as well, but they seem like for now they dont want the newbies slowing them down with the designing haha
making it hard to get involved... i just wanna race for them though, think i should be one of the top drivers in the club.

Need to win the lottery man; would have garage full of Lambos. And maybe an Aston for Yummy.

Co-Worker & I drove the CS at work today. I can't believe how hard that car pulls in 3rd gear from such a low speed.
there is a 200k firebird in the left column

A friend of mine is doing his third year on the Baja car and he told me the first year was mostly things like helping with the manufacturing, and auxiliary stuff like building a toolbox. Second year he was head of steering.

I'd love to do FSAE as well, don't know how to make the time though.
You're in engineering, right?

The car has been featured in numerous magazines in the US and overseas. It was a 2011 Optima Challenge Car and has made appearances at the last two SEMA shows. It was also featured on Speed TV as part of their Optima Coverage.
Well, I drove the Kona Blue 5.0. Great car, lowered & Roush exhaust.
But I fucking hate dealing with Big 3 dealerships. Bullshit rates & games (I asked 8 times to give my keys back because I wanted to leave) until you walk out the door & everything is magically affordable. They tried to screw me over on buying a warranty with it so it's certified when the car is already still certified w/ 21,000 miles/2 years left on its original warranty. They told me the deal I wanted was "impossible" & that I got my previous deal because I was an employee til' I responded that I wasn't getting any incentive. They didn't respond, so they obviously had no idea how I managed that.
Thus, I'm going to wait a month & see if our CS at work goes to auction. If it does, despite the stupid miles, I'll make another offer as said before. By that time, I know I can get the payments I really want with $3-4,000 taken off the list price.
Sooo, back to looking at Corvettes & 335's.

They originally wanted to give me $14,500, then $14,700 before he came back & then offered $15K, what my work offered me. Before I left, he asked what if they gave $16K, but I didn't care.
Edit* Right as I was deciding to go back to my work, my buddy told me the CS has had deployed airbags & the ECU replaced 3 times, so it's going to be a problem car. Dammit....

Yeah. The salesman came back saying they wanted to give a fair trade & left the paperwork.

Not that it matters anyway now. I decided to go on one last cruise with my TL, & I can't let her go, not for $15,000. I've always been a die-hard Corvette lover, & I'd just be sacrificing the toy I want for a car that has the power I want, but not the overall package.

Getting on a magazine isn't that hard, my friend work dub, and manufactures/shops give out rims, do paint jobs, and do custom work to cars for free or really cheap to get their names in the magazine. Notice in that quote it didn't win anything it just appeared in, not that hard to accomplish

Given the background on the car you could argue the value, but its still over priced...i rather have a number original and pay a ridiculous price tag, then pay a ridiculous price tag on a modded out car. They aren't losing money on that car, it isn't a good deal its a rape fest for who ever buys it
Or $250k on a Bentley Continental GT that is worth 1/3 five years later didn't get the same deal in the end.
When we start talking about $200k for a car, in most cases it's a rip off.
don't think it is worth $100k let alone $200k. But I don't think anyone who paid $200k on a Callaway or a Henessey Viper didn't get raped.

Very true, but 99.9% of cars don't hold their value. Few cars are actually priced correctly. Cars aren't good investments, unless its ridiculously rare.
not you specially, this is in general to everyone...
How many cars have you owned that you thought were really worth what you paid, or worth more?
