Because you're tall? It's amazing how one thing could be super comfortable for me and yet very uncomfortable for you.

If I were you, I would just get a GTi for a DD.
I'd love to get either a M2 or M3 but I need a 4 door so the M2 is out and even a used 2015+ M3 is too expensive for me to justify. Not to mention the value will continue to plummet over the years. If I want to track, I have it covered. I just want a DD.

I'd get a late model year E90 M3 but the rod bearing issues have me nervous.

I tried the GTI and, while fun, it wasn't near the riot levels of the Golf R. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I got the GTI over the R.

Noooo it's not really an issue of comfy or not. The driving point of view is much higher than other cars in the same segment!

Yeah, you just have to pay to play with BMWs.

And for your purpose, you don't need any M cars.

GTi and Golf R can be almost $15k apart. So there's that. Just gotta go with what you want within your budget for your purpose.

Understood, hopefully they are better than they used to be but we'll see, still deciding.

Also, I'm looking at getting a 2017 CPO Golf R so that puts it at a ~$5k difference over a new fully decked out GTI. VW's CPO program is really good and pushes the warranty out farther than a new car so it's silly to not get a lightly used one. The 2018's are now coming with a 6/72 warranty but it'll cost me an extra $7k to get a new one over a used MY17.

Definitely makes a much better financial sense to go for the used ones. It's always like that! But you know some people don't like used cars because someone else farted on the seats

If I may chime in here, I owned a Lapiz Blue 17 and now have a grey 18.
I'd save the money and go for a CPO. The differences in 2018 aren't really worth 7k IMHO.
One of the best daily drivers I've had the pleasure to own.

Sounds like those people need stronger smelling farts...

The 18's are on the market now?! I'm not seeing any in inventory anywhere in the country...or are you in Canadia?

The big reason I want the 17 is because of the wheels. I LOVE the pretoria wheels, the ones on the 18's are fugly. The updated tech in the interior would be welcome though.

Yeah, I am in Canada. Picked it up in October. Funny enough, I turned down another 2017 because I couldn't find one with Pretorias.
I am not sure about the spec in the US but I have Pretoria wheels on my 18.
The updated tech is nice.

Ugh, I can't stand Shmee along with VV & streetspeed douche. He's developed a predictable outline that includes being front & center (literally) of new cars he plans/wants to showcase because the fame has gone to his head. The fact he puts Shmee 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, etc etc on his plates is retarded; he wants you to know it's him. He shares the same trait as the other big YT "Reviewers" as well. They all lie about their wealth and want to come across as "Self-Made".

I only watch Doug because he's developed his own style with vehicle quirks along with Petrolicious & Leno's Garage. If I want an actual review, I watch Harry Metcalfe or Henry Catchpole (basically, anyone with a solid history with EVO Magazine) & of course, Harris. People who actually can dive deeper than, "OMG, it's so fast! It turns pretty good. The brakes feel amazing". That's the weak point of most YouTube reviewers. They have no vocabulary. They can't dig beyond a tech sheet and actually describe how an automobile feels. If I knew the secret to success otherwise was running crowded streets to chase a supercar or telling you anything with 500hp is just fast, we'd all have made stardom years ago.

/Rant.

What do you guys think about TFL? I just re-discovered them and felt the dudes are quite genuine and provide good variety of reviews/videos. Seems like they do lot of truck/jeep stuff as well.

Doug is a classic and you can tell he really has developed his own style compared to his older videos. The thing that I do NOT like about Doug is with the views/money he's ranking in, he should up his videography/sound game, which sucks, AND he needs to up his vehicle research game more. There are certain features/quirks that he doesn't know why its there (ie, from what I can remember things like the Tesla creep mode, why a G550 4x4 squared has amber lights on top, etc. etc.). Though I can see he's trying to maximize his views as he films very often and gets out videos quick (twice a week) but you can tell the quality is not nearly as good as it could be....which is unfortunate since he has such a huge audience...

Yeah, I've noticed him not understanding things as well, but they seem to all be things you'd really have to know about the car to correct him on. Don't care for his "Doug Scores" or whatever since he doesn't really review any different from YouTubers. Never read one of his articles, so maybe he does better on paper.

Props to him still showing off a variety of cars and not whatever the latest supercar is.

I don't watch Shmee for the reviews lol. It's more of a vlog than anything else. If I want actual reviews, I go to redline as it's the most thorough reviews out there. If not there, then H2H on motor trend or something of the sort (like EVO magazine, carwow is good too). Harris is the best but he's a little tied up with another big gig lately.

TFL is only good for Jeep/off road stuff. Other than that, I'd pass. I do enjoy them taking the "offroad" crossovers up a trail and seeing how far they get though.

It's very torque-y. You can go from around 60-85 with a bit of throttle in no time. I went with 1 tech and the car will spin tires in first pretty easily when the turbos come on.

It's this particular car as it's a regional car. Our others have been as expected.

My coworker has every gen of the LS. Latest an F-sport version. He optioned out the LS500 he wanted with 23 speakers lol. Ended up being 99,500. lol. He's going to get it. I told him some great sales on GS-F and RC-F, but he's all about that 23 speaker experience. He'll be happy to hear Rick's feedback.

All Things Considered must sound hella nice on that system.

Crank up the bass for when Kai Ryssdal comes on air with the Marketplace report. Baller.

I just looked back at Rick's pic and he's cruising at almost 80 mph and it's under 2000 rpm. Does it have cyl deactivation? That's lower than a big V8.

My A4 with the 2.0T cruises at 80 at around 1700 rpm.

I would still take a GS F, but only because I still want some performance aspect to my car. But, this car does a good job feeling more snug and sporty over the last LS as well. Would be a tough, couple-days-needed decision for me. :P

The Mark Levinson system is tits as well for a $2,000 option.

Damn that's incredible, lol. Must be nice to be well off as well to be able to afford new LSs each gen. Saw a snippet of a dude reviewing the new LS and some of features look amazing.

Odd to see that ugly looking steering wheel wrap/stitch, Lexus usually known for high attention to detail/quality....

As mentioned above, it was just this car; the stitching already had some yarn hanging from the wheel.

Believe me, as a regional car, there's a high chance it'll come back in worse shape. I don't know who drives them, but since the people don't own them outright, they treat them however until the car is turned in and then discounted out to a dealer. I don't particularly care for when we get them; it's not a good representation imo.

Your ears have been repetitively raped by Lars Ulrich
You'd never appreciate the subtleties of Jethro Tull
Only a 23 speaker system will even begin to give it justice

In the time it takes him to pick up his $7 double custom latte he'll only have heard Aqualung through the 2nd flute solo. Fuck that excess fool.

No designer lattes, he's just an old head. +40 years working.. house paid off, kids grown, wife works still.
Anyways, a mortgage payment on a Lexbo is nothing to them.
Shit, I got more than that paying for daycare.

Get money fool
Him and his wife do pretty well. But all in time.
Stay healthy and live reasonably.

He's only owned 7 cars in his life.. the last 3 being LSs.
Last gen LS being ~10 years.. that's not bad.
Plus the LS pricing has historically been pretty low comparatively.
I mean.. they do make bank tho (prob ~330k).

Shit. It's funny how ten years ago I thought making six figures meant you had it made.

But the more people I meet over the years, the more I know that doesn't mean squat especially in my area. I know of couples pulling in half a million and are still complaining about not making enough money

The older I get the more I content I would be with something like that LS as my only car.

^ people will always complaint about not making enough.... unless you are Bill gates or Oprah .

6 figures salary is NOTHING, especially if you have no kids, no house and no wife.

100k salary for a single man = 60k realisically
70k salary for a married man with 3 kids = 60k realistically.

Many may argue, but you have to pay for day care diaper.... yah true. But you also have 2 incomes vs. 1 income.
If you are single with 3 kids... you will most likely to make more than 70k net when you are making 70k gross.

It's easy to be poor if you're an idiot regardless of how much money you make. $100k can quickly be zero if you're a fool with how you spend your money.

^ This too. Taxes suck if you have no deductions.

Sidebar question, how's your 4 series going? Any issues? You plan on getting another one? I'm looking at a CPO 435GC and wondering if I'll be walking into a shit storm with keeping it on the road or not.

He lives in the City / Bay Area.
100k is zero after paying for the small room you rent with 3 other people, food, and gas.
