Since this seems to have been a response to something I said earlier - I'm more than willing to have my opinion changed, but not based on mere rhetoric. So, I have to ask the question - why?

Here's a serious rant...

My 2G TL has the worst designed cup holders in the world. I cant have one bottle/drink in there without holding it while accelerating/braking/turning.

The thing that wraps around the cup is like an inch high!!!

its purely pointless.

/rant

My '98 328i has useless cupholders too. Won't hold a 12oz can. Designed in different times I guess.

Maybe your 00 has different cup holders than my 03 because I have never had a problem with bottles flying out.

My Mustang has the best cup holders ever. That's an extra large too!

My Accord's cupholders are meh. They're a bit too short, but can hold different sized-cans in place, and I only have a tipping problem with large drinks.

Have 8 of them though.

The car sounds great but I think it would be too expensive to sell here. There's less bias for expensive hatches in Europe.

That said, if you love the C30R, take a look at the Golf R when it hits showrooms. 2-door and 4-door configurations, AWD, 6MT, and comes with 270hp from the factory that can be upgraded to 322hp with APR's Stage 1 kit.

I love Golf R, but if it's around $35k, it seems a little too expensive for what it is. Just a thought.

R32 was around 30k in like 2003, no? $35k seems fair now.

Hell the A4 was 33k back then and now its over 40k!

$33,900 for standard 18-inch wheels, bi-xenon headlights, automatic climate control, leather seats, Bluetooth, and an eight-speaker stereo with six-disc in-dash CD changer, iPod adapter, and satellite radio. The navigation and sunroof package also adds keyless entry, pushbutton start, and an upgraded 300-watt stereo.

That's $3k less than a Subaru STi. I think it's a very good value, especially if for $600 you can get to 322/321.

I know I'm missing the point but the interior of the GT-R looks, I dunno, dated? The whole navigation pod looks like an afterthought and the rest of the HVAC stack looks simplistic too.

I've never been in one and I know that the car's performance is unequaled at the price but I wonder what sitting behind the wheel every day feels like. Especially when you could get a 991 Carrera S for a little more money (relatively speaking).

Having that kind of attitude just means you'll miss out on a lot of opportunities to experience good things ... Just saying.

I love the Golf R as well and wanted it to come to states badly. But yea I think it is kinda expensive, but then again it is a special edition car not meant to make many sales. They're only selling 1000 here I think, right?

But for 35k, it opens the door to a whole bunch of possibilities.

If I had $35k to spend, I would get the Golf R. If you saw that dyno I posted it's worth every bit. It's basically TT-RS performance for $36k.

GT-R is a funky looking car all over, and Nissan knows that. it was just a "F U" car, Godzirra. breaking all the rules.

haha yea i get you, but aftermarket is not the first thing that goes to mind for me. Since I would leave it stock for a while. I'm not big on modding. Especially with warranty going out and all on a 35k car that I would presumably track and autocross. Yea I know you dont have warranty coverage for that also but its easier to hide that.

This is relative of course but I haven't cared how much a car costs relative to its brand in a long time. My friend knocks on GM and truth be told as much as I know about their cars I'm not all that crazy about GM itself.

He always talks about how a large part of each of their cars goes to funding a retired union worker's pension. But I always buy used I only go to the dealer or buy dealer-sourced parts if it's for some BS I can't get anywhere else like small bits of hardware; part-specific nuts, bolts, screws, etc.

Perhaps it's just me but I'm still not absolutely blown away by interiors as much as I am by sound, performance and exterior. I've been in a S600 and it was very nice inside but what I remember most vividly is the buttery smooth quiet rush of acceleration. It went from 60 to 120 mph rather quickly and without much effort, it seemed.

The interior of an LS460 was ehh too. Again very nice but at the time I was too busy trying to get it to self-park though the reclining passenger seat on the 460L is sweet. Plus having more speakers than you can count on both hands.... mmm

I mean, the Golf R interior does look good. But I'm more interested in ergonomics which is something I wouldn't know until I actually sit inside of it. I know the steering wheel looks great, but IMO that's still more of a control device/ergonomics than part of the interior design. I've sat in a Golf before and as typical of current VWs the build quality was great but nothing mind-blowing.

I still need to drive one, but from adjusting everything to the way I would like it, it fits me well. Im ~6' and 150lbs. It would take a while to get used to where reverse is located though.

yeah, I think interiors are a personal thing. for me, it's a pretty big thing but not necessarily a dealbreaker... or is it... like the STi and EVO... love both of those cars but I just cannot get over the interiors... so I guess I do need to like the interiors enough. I consider it my living space, while I am operating the vehicle. So I do have expectations thereof. And I'm definitely not anywhere near the biggest interior snob on the board.

I also think the Golf R is a bit expensive for what it is.

The options that charliemike listed, most (if not all) are in the GTI Autobahn. So you're essentially paying $4k for AWD and a slightly tuned up engine. And $600 for Stage 1 can put the GTI in ~300hp/250tq territory.

Just saying, that car was made 11 years ago. Or more to the point, originally designed 15 years ago.

I share your feelings slightly. I'd be worried about a German car out of warranty as well. I'm a firm believer in planned obsolescence.... it just depends on when the manufacturer wants it to happen or if they really intended it or not. You never know until it happens. I firmly believe in planned obsolescence in Apple products but that's a different story.

I have also worked on a MKIV GTI VR6 and it was a pain in the ass to just find a sensor on it. Everything was covered up though in VW's defense that's what almost every manufacturer is doing these days.

Funny thing is I quite like the interior on the newest Evo. The armrests on the doors could use the same faux suede/microfiber finish as the lower-end Lancers get, but aside from that I didn't mind driving one or being a passenger, though the orange in the instrument cluster is meh. The STI is okay, not particularly good looking enough for my standards on a new car but an improvement on the older ones.

Definitely is a personal thing. The way I am, I expect my tools to work and I plan on beating the shit out of them. I could care less about how my mouse/keyboard looks or how my shifter/steering wheel looks or how my hand tools look. More important is how they feel in my hand and how effortless it is to use them.

I'd rather have an ugly 90-tooth ratchet that I can put a cheater bar on not have it break than a mirror-finish ratchet that resists stains. That's my preference as far as hand tools go

That's $3k less than a Subaru STi. I think it's a very good value, especially if for $600 you can get to 322/321.
Didn't know it comes with all those goodies... is that navigation package included on that price?

Just to be fair, STi can make so much more power with a tune as well. The stock tune on STi is pretty damn shitty. Plus, the sedan STi is around $34k as well. It's the 5-door version that is couple more thousands more.
