those are amazingIf I could afford it I'd pick up an 08 C6Z and send it to Caravaggio if I really wanted to. You can have a car that shits on Ferraris inside and out AND you can work on it at home.
yeah see I'm not crazy about the Z06 interior - but I'd let it slide just because the rest of the car is so bad ass.
and, Murci SV... uhh... yeah... I'll get right on that.
btw. Caravaggio interior looks nice

And in childhood I was smitten with Ferraris until as I got older I talked to people who were very interested in buying them. Valve adjustments every 10k miles or so, timing belt service every 30k which requires the engine to be dropped, stuff like that.
You'd probably have to or would much prefer going to an actual licensed Ferrari mechanic. $$$$$. Or you might say, but it's a Ferrari, I probably wouldn't drive it much anyway. In that case, what's the point? Letting a glorious car which was meant to be driven sit underneath a cover or just not be driven is stupid
Ferrari is nothing more than a brand, I bet they make more money selling hats, keychains and apparel than they do selling cars. Damned if you do, damned if you don't drive one often. Sometimes it seems like more of a conversation piece than a driving machine.
On the other hand I could probably daily a Z06 and its maintenance would probably be no different than a standard Corvette or even a similarly equipped LS3 Camaro. More oil for the dry sump, sure. But even a shadetree mechanic like me could probably work on a Z06. And you can lower it for free/cheap

For $35k I can get a used Elise with money to spare. If I look harder I could find an Exige too. Or a nice NSX. $35k for the Golf R is a bit expensive for me. I understand the Lotus/NSX and the VW are two completely different cars, but still.
I'm leaning that direction as well. Our previous two cars were both purchased new ('03 Pilot and '06 TL). Don't know if I'll do that again given the deals one can get on a really good used car.
This is my first new car and probably my last. I checked the value on my car a month or 2 after I bought it....and holy crap! I never realized the significance of the depreciation hit that others often talk about. But man, when I see the numbers...
New cars and used cars have their highs and lows.
Buying a new car is much more expensive, but there's a lot less stress involved. You don't have to worry about how the car was treated, maintenance history, collision damage, or anything that the seller might be hiding.

+1
you are paying for a lot of piece of mind with a new car ^
you never know what mixed bag of goodies you might end up with on a used car, or what it went through in its previous life. Some are better than others, and sure new cars have problems too, but yeah. Also the feeling of getting a new car and bringing it home from the dealership is pretty awesome, gotta say, you know you all like it too.
Applies to purchasing a used car too but new is just so freshh

I also think the Golf R is a bit expensive for what it is.
The options that charliemike listed, most (if not all) are in the GTI Autobahn. So you're essentially paying $4k for AWD and a slightly tuned up engine. And $600 for Stage 1 can put the GTI in ~300hp/250tq territory.

And APR's Stage 1 for the 2.0T in the GTI is 252/303 not 300/250. Kinda a big difference.
But if you don't think it's worth it, that's why it's great to have choices. You can spend the money on something else

and
on the concept comment, touche

Just remembered I read a review couple weeks ago. And yes, the review was great in terms of the engine performance also! And it's a SUV, if it goes, then it's fine.
You know whats another good plan! Just be wealthy enough so that you dont even have to think about getting hit with the depreciation
I know I'm gonna face another problem in life, selling cars or getting rid of them.
As much as i want a new car I dont wanna see my tl go
and I know eventually its got too
But yea you get my point.

The second you make enough to pick up whatever shiny new F-car is out, you wouldnt even think twice about getting rid of the TL.
But I hope if you are able to afford a Ferrari, just fuck with the dealer and make them accept the TL as a trade in
